  • We present the design and implementation of a unique sensing and actuation application -- the Illuminator: a sensor network-based intelligent light control system for entertainment and media production. Unlike most sensor network applications, which focus on sensing alone, a distinctive aspect of the Illuminator is that it closes the loop from light sensing to lighting control. We describe the Illuminator's design requirements, system architecture, algorithms, implementation and experimental results. The system uses the Illumimote, a multi-modal and high fidelity light sensor module well-suited for wireless sensor networks, to satisfy the high-performance light sensing requirements of entertainment and media production applications. The Illuminator system is a toolset to characterize the illumination profile of a deployed set of fixed position lights, generate desired lighting effects for moving targets (actors, scenic elements, etc.) based on user constraints expressed in a formal language, and to assist in the set up of lights to achieve the same illumination profile in multiple venues. After characterizing deployed lights, the Illuminator computes optimal light settings at run-time to achieve a user-specified actuation profile, using an optimization framework based on a genetic algorithm. Uniquely, it can use deployed sensors to incorporate changing ambient lighting conditions and moving targets into actuation. Experimental results demonstrate that the Illuminator handles various high-level user requirements and generates an optimal light actuation profile. These results suggest that the Illuminator system supports entertainment and media production applications.

  • Now a days, there are various application functions to transmit from vehicles to the Internet and vice versa. And the communication can be operated through a roadside infrastructure including with possible use of routing protocols. Specifically, autonomous vehicles for remote driving and monitoring requires transmitting of high depth of multimedia such as video. Especially in a populated urban area, an efficient network is vital because of handling a great amount of the data. Therefore, in this paper, efficient network topology for a crossroad in urban area is suggested by performance evaluation of vehicular networks using a wireless LAN and a routing protocol. For the performance evaluation, various vehicular network topologies are designed and simulated in OPNet simulator.

  • Localization of nodes is a key technology for application of wireless sensor network. Having a GPS receiver on every sensor node is costly. In the past, several approaches, including range-based and range-free, have been proposed to calculate positions for randomly deployed sensor nodes. Most of them use some special nodes, called anchor nodes, which are assumed to know their own locations. Other sensors compute their locations based on the information provided by these anchor nodes. This paper uses a single mobile anchor node to move in the sensing field and broadcast its current position periodically. We provide a weighted centroid localization algorithm that uses coefficients, which are decided by the influence of mobile anchor node to unknown nodes, to prompt localization accuracy. We also suggest a criterion which is used to select mobile anchor node which involve in computing the position of nodes for improving localization accuracy. Weighted centroid localization algorithm is simple, and no communication is needed while locating. The localization accuracy of weighted centroid localization algorithm is better than maximum likelihood estimation which is used very often. It can be applied to many applications.

  • We developed the CNU nt emulator which is an development environment for WIPI applications, wireless Internet applications for cellular phones with the WIPI software platform. The CNU WIPI emulator provides stable memory management and ability of installing, executing, deleting or managing WIPI applications. WIPI WAM provides quick execution of applications and convenient debugging function. In this paper, we describe the design, implementation issues of the CNU WIPI emulator and show its correctness of executing and performance improvement over $25\%$ by comparing it with other WIPI emulators.

  • With the proliferation of ubiquitous computing we have witnessed the wide application of many wireless sensor networks into various areas because of easy installations and low-cost merits. The commercially available equipments for monitoring and predicting cracks in the mountain regions are still burden for us in terms of the installation complexity and the cost. Alternatively we in this paper design and implement a pilot slop-crack monitoring and prediction system which is based on low-cost commercial sensor networks. The proposed system is easy to install on cliffs, slopes, rocks, and banks and may minimize the destruction of the original geographical forms. Expected is that its installation and maintenance costs may reduce to the half of those of existing systems.

  • Recently, users who are interested in the service at indoor spaces is increasing. An indoor positioning system can minimize a range of positioning error using a variety of wireless communication infrastructure. Also, the system improves an indoor positioning accuracy by combining a mobile communication network. However, flexible positioning technologies regardless of an environment are insufficient. Therefore, this is time for a systematic study on an indoor positioning system business model. This paper classify differences between an indoor positioning system technology and outdoor positioning system technology. And we research a construction and application of the indoor positioning system that is adapted a wireless communication system (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID, UWE, Fingerprint, etc.) in domestic and foreign. We present a successful model of indoor positioning system and the development for future systems.

  • Microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology has been attractive since it can not only treat organic waste in an eco-friendly way by digesting it but also generate electricity by the unique metabolic process of microbes. However, it hasn't been employed in practical use until now because it is hard to integrate a small electricity up to an adequate amount of electric power and difficult to keep its bio-electric activity consistent. In this study, we combined an energy harvester with MFC (MFC-EH) to make the power-integration convenient and developed an energy self-sustainable wireless sensor system driven by a stable electric power produced by MFC-EH. Additionally, we build the low power application measuring data to be cast by the web in real-time so that it can be quickly and easily accessed through the internet. The proposed system could contribute to improvement of waste treatment and up-cycling technologies in near future.

  • In this paper, we consider the Femtocell based enterprise wireless network using 2G/3G/4G cellular network technologies. And, we apply the open network service API which enable an easy development of ISP or enterprise services to P2P enterprise services. Based on the proposed scheme, enterprise services can be always connected at anywhere and anytime via heterogeneous devices. By using a qualitative analysis, we evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme and compare with that of the famous P2P service - Skype. Results show that the proposed scheme requests smaller servers and flows with enhanced service quality.

  • In a multi-hop wireless sensor network, broadcasting is an elementary operation to support command message sending, route discovery and other application tasks. Broadcasting by flooding may cause serious redundancy, contention, and collision in the network, which is referred to as the broadcast storm problem. Many broadcasting schemes have been proposed to give better performance than simple flooding in wireless sensor network. How to decide whether re-broadcast or not also poses a dilemma between reach ability and efficiency under different host densities. In this paper, we present popular broadcasting schemes, which can reduce re-broadcast packets and improve SRB(Saved ReBroadcast). Simulation results show different levels of improvement over the simple flooding scheme.

  • In this paper, a weathercock-shaped microstrip patch antenna for application in 5.25GHz band wireless LAN is designed and fabricated. To obtain sufficient bandwidth in VSWR<2, the T-slot is inserted on the patch, the coaxial probe source is used. The measured result of fabricated antenna obtained 350MHz or about $7.62\%$ bandwidth in VSWR<2 referenced to the center frequency, the gain of 5.25${\~}$6.70dBi. The experimental 3-dB beam width is shown to be broad across the pass band in azimuth and elevation at $80.32^{\circ}$ and $83.88^{\circ}$, in several.
