A three-dimensional WIG (Wing In Ground effect) moving above free surface is numerically studied by means of finite difference techniques. The air flow field around the WIG is analyzed by MAC (Marker & Cell) method, and interactions between WIG and the free surface are appeared as the variation of pressure distribution acting on the free surface. To analyze the wavemaking phenomena by those pressure distributions, the NS (Navier-Stokes) solver is employed in which nonlinearities of the free surface conditions can be included. Through the numerical simulation, Cp values and lift/drag ratio are carefully reviewed by changing the height/chord ratio. The section shape of model is NACA0012 with the span/chord ratio of 3.0. Through computational results, it is confirmed that the effect of free surface is small enough to treat it as a rigid wavy wall.

Flow and aerodynamic characteristics were analyzed numerically for a commercial passenger airplane, Boeing 747-400, flying in the cruising condition. The model geometry with 100:1 in scale was obtained by the photo scanning measurement with the maximum error of 1.4% comparing with the real airplane dimension. The three-dimensional inviscid steady compressible governing equations were solved by the finite volume method in the unstructured grid system. The convective terms were treated by the Crank-Nicholson and first-order upwind schemes. In the computational results, the strong wing-tip vortices were clearly observed and the pressure contours on the airplane surface were suggested. The lift and drag forces in the wing with engines increase by 1.49% and 3.9%, respectively compared with the case without engines. The aerodynamic forces were estimated quantitatively for each element which consists of the airplane.

A practical design method for supersonic wings has been developed. The method is based on Takanashi's method that uses integral equations and iterative "residual-correction" concept. The geometry correction is calculated by solving linearized small perturbation equation (LSP) with the difference between garget and objective surface pressure distributions as a boundary condition. In the present method, LSP equation is analytically transformed to integral equations by using the Green's theorem. Design results of an isolated wing and wing-nacelle configurations are presented here.

The geometry of a commercial passenger airplane is realized based on a Boeing 747-400 model through the photographic scanning and reverse engineering. The each element consisting of the plane such as fuselage, wing, vertical fin, stabilizer and engines, is individually generated and then the whole body is assembled by the photomodeler. The maximum error in the realized airplane is about 1.4% comparing with the real one. The three-dimensional inviscid steady compressible governing equations are solved in the unstructured tetrahedron grid system, and in a finite volume method using STAR-CD when the airplane flies at the cruise condition. The pressure distribution on the surface and the wing-tip vortices are visualized, and in addition to the aerodynamics coefficients, lift and drag are estimated.
The attitude aerodynamic control is an important subject in the design of an aerospace plane. Usually, at high altitudes, this control is fulfilled by thrusters so that the implementation of an aerodynamic control of the vehicle has the advantage of reducing the amount of thrusters fuel to be loaded on board. In the present paper, the efficiency of a wing-flap has been evaluated considering a NACA 0010 airfoil with a trailing edge flap of length equal to 35% of the chord. Computational tests have been carried out in hypersonic, rarefied flow by a direct simulation Monte Carlo code at the altitudes of 65 and 85 km, in the range of angle of attack 0-40 deg. and with flap deflection equal to 0, 15 and 30 deg.. Effects of the flap deflection have been quantified by the variations of the aerodynamic force and of the longitudinal moment. The shock wave-boundary layer interaction and the shock wave-shock wave interaction have been also considered. A possible interaction of the leading edge shock wave and of the shock wave arising from the vertex of the convex corner, produced on the lower surface of the airfoil when the flap is deflected, generates a shock wave whose intensity is stronger than those of the two interacting shock waves. This produces a consistent increment of pressure and heat flux on the lower surface of the flap, where a thermal protection system is required.

An experimental study of the vortical flow over a yawed delta wing with leading edge extension(LEX) was conducted to investigate the effects of the existence of a centerbody configuration on the flow characteristics of the wing and LEX vortices using off-surface visualization and PIV measurements. The qualitative investigation using these two techniques indicated that the effect of the centerbody existence on the vortex formation was minimal at somewhat low range of angles of attack and sideslip angles. However, the quantitative analysis of the surface pressure measurements revealed the effect of centerbody existence to be prominently increased for the cases with higher angles of attack and sideslip angles. It was also found that the centerbody effect was not significant compared to the effect of sideslip for the present LEX-delta wing configuration.

Hydrodynamic ram of aircraft fuel tanks is one of main ballistic battle damages of an aircraft and has great importance to airframe survivability design. Basic concept, physics and research history of hydrodynamic ram are investigated. The penetration and internal detonation of a simple fuel tank and ICW(Intermediate Complexity Wing) are analyzed by computational method. Structural rupture and fluid burst are analytically realized using general coupling and coupling surface interaction. The results such as fluid pressure, tank stress and displacement are shown and future research chances are suggested based on the study.

The present study numerically investigates the effect of the wavy leading edge on hydrodynamic characteristics for the flow of rectangular wings with the low aspect ratio of 1.5. Five different wave lengths at fixed wavy amplitude have been considered. Numerical simulations are performed at a wide range of the angle of attack ($0^{\circ}{\leq}{\alpha}{\leq}40^{\circ}$) at one Reynolds number of $10^6$. The wavy wings considered in this study did not experience enough lift drop to be defined as the stall, comparing with the smooth wing. However, in the pre-stall region, the wavy wings reveal the considerable loss of the lift, compared to the smooth wing. In the post-stall, the lift coefficients of the smooth wing and the wavy wings are not much different. The pressure coefficient, limiting streamlines and the iso-surface of the spanwise vorticity are also highlighted to examine the effect of the wave length on the flow structures.

Leading edge extension(LEX) in a highly swept shape applied to a delta wing features the modern air-fighters. The LEX vortices generated upon the upper surface of the wing at high angle of attack enhance the lift force of the delta wing by way of increased negative suction pressure over the surfaces. The present 3-D stereo PIV includes the Identification of 2-D cross-correlation equation, stereo matching of 2-D velocity vectors of two cameras, accurate calculation of 3-D velocity vectors by homogeneous coordinate system, removal of error vectors by a statistical method followed by a continuity equation criterion and so on. A delta wing model with or without LEX was immersed in a circulating water channel. Two high-resolution, high-speed digital cameras$(1280pixel\times1024pixel)$ were used to allow the time-resolved animation work. The present dynamic stereo PIV represents the complicated vortex behavior, especially, in terms of time-dependent characteristics of the vortices at given measuring sections. Quantities such as three velocity vector components, vorticity and other flow information can be easily visualized via the 3D time-resolved post-processing to make the easy understanding of the LEX effect or vortex emerging and collapse which are important phenomena occurring in the field of delta wing aerodynamics.
