  • In this study, we propose a small high voltage power supply, which uses a half-bridge ZCS resonant and Cockroft-Walton circuit as its ESP (Electrostatic Precipitator). This power supply transfers energy from the ZCS resonant inverter to the step-up transformer. The transformer secondary is then applied to the Cockroft-Walton circuit for generating high voltage as a discharging source of electrodes. It is highly efficient because its amount of switching losses are reduced by virtue of the current resonant half-bridge inverter, and also due to the small size, low parasitic capacitance in the transformer stage owing to the low number of winding turns of the step up transformer secondary combined with the Cockroft-Walton circuit. Using this power supply, experiments have been carried out as a function of the switching frequency and duty ratio in order to investigate the smoke removal characteristics. From these results, the best operational condition is obtained at the switching frequency of 9 kHz and the duty ratio of 50% in this ESP.

  • The gridless (or meshfree) methods, such as MPS, SPH, FPM an so forth, are feasible and robust for the problems with moving boundary and/or complicated boundary shapes, because these methods do not need to generate a grid system. In this study, a gridless solver, which is based on the combination of moving least square interpolations on a cloud of points with point collocation for evaluating the derivatives of governing equations, is presented for two-dimensional unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes problem in the low Reynolds number. A MAC-type algorithm was adopted and the Poission equation for the pressure was solved by successively in the moving least square sense. Some weighing functions were tested in order to investigate the up-winding effect for the convection term. Some typical problems were solved by the presented solver for the validation and the results obtained were compared with analytic solutions and the numerical results by conventional CFD methods, such as FVM.

  • It is well recently recognized that quench is one of the serious problems for the integrity of superconducting magnets, which is mainly attribute to the rapid temperature rising in the magnet due to some extrinsic factors such as conductor motion, crack initiation etc. In order to apply acoustic emission(AE)echnique effectively to monitor and diagnose superconducting magnets, it is essential to identify the sources of acoustic emission. In this paper, an acoustic emission technique has been used to monitor and diagnose quenching phenomenon in racetrack shaped superconducting magnets at cryogenic environment of 4.2K. For these purposes special attention was paid to detect AE signals associated with the quench of superconducting magnets. The characteristics of AE parameters have been analyzed by correlating with quench number, winding tension of superconducting coil and charge rate by transport current. In addition, the source location of quench in superconducting magnet was also discussed on the basis of correlation between magnet voltage and AE energy.

  • This paper present the Three-Level converter using IM(Integrated Magnetics) method for high power application. In power conversion system, magnetic components are important devices used for energy storage, energy transfer, galvanic isolation and filtering. The proposed Three-Level converter is to reduce the number of magnetic components using transformer integrated with output inductor. This paper proposes reluctance model base on the magnetic analysis for the Three-Level converter. Also, the secondary rectification was discussed by a single core transformer winding. A protype featuring 540[V] input, 48[V] output, 40[kHz] switching frequency, and 3[kW] output power using IGBT.

  • The Permanent Magnet (PM) machine used at speed control using field-weakening control method. But the field-weakening current, which reduces the field flux for high speeds, causes significant copper and core losses. Therefore, this paper deals with the PM performance evaluations in a pole changing memory motor (PCMM). The PCMM can change the number of magnetic poles and produce two types of torque. When the motor operates with eight poles, it produces a magnetic torque at low rotational speeds. When the motor changes to four poles, it produces both magnetic torque and reluctance torque at high speeds. The paper explain the principle and basic characteristics of the motor by using a finite element method magnetic-field analysis, which consists of a PM magnetized by a pulse d-axis current of the armature winding. The results of our experiment show that the proposed motor reduces core loss by 10% and 55% under no-load and load conditions, and doubles the speed range of the motor.

  • Proposed about new inverter that can use in PV system in this paper. Multi_level inverter that used inverter makes use of 4 transformers is basis, primary winding of each transformer voltage as can do step_up or step_down to appropriate voltage space tap lake. Put circuit that tap that turn in transformer connects properly according to inhibit signal that sense change of input voltage (output voltage of solar cell place) and transformer secondary voltage controls point of contact of relay so that get into fixed output voltage. As a result, can minimise relative harmonic content despite change width of input voltage are wide because number of output voltage level of multi_level inverter does not decrease. Because proposed circuit manufactures is easy and control is easy and is no burden of cost price rise economically, commercialization expected to do easily and this study examined propriety of action as that compose and experiments proposed circuit.

  • The products using blowers include hand dryers, automatic car washers, dryers, and vacuum cleaners. The features of these products require a structure and control algorithm so that a strong wind is blown out at the moment. Electric motors according to the existing excitation method include a direct winding type, a decentralized type, a lottery type, and a permanent magnet type. Conventional electric motors have a disadvantage when the starting current is large during high-speed rotation and the number of rotations is irregular. In order to improve this, research on high-speed BLDC motor control has designed 800W-class high-speed BLDC motor control and circuit through driving circuit design, sensorless control algorithm, simulation, experiment, etc., and more than 95% high efficiency evaluation method of driving performance of controller, prototype experiments and verification were studied.

  • A nobel low-cost, simple and unity-power-factor electronic ballast is presented. The proposed electronic ballast employs a bypassing capacitor- and load networks composed of ballast capacitors and small charge pump capacitors as power factor correction circuit combined with the secondary winding of the transformer in the self-excited current-fed push-pull resonant inverter(CF-PPRI), resulting in cost-effectiveness and higher efficiency. By analyzing the princip1es of power factor correction mathematically, optimum design guidelines are presented. Since the lamps are used in power factor correction stage, the input power is automatically adjusted according to the number of the lamps.

  • A direct PM generator has the effect of reducing the mechanical noise and ease of maintenance by eliminating a number of power transmission components. In addition, wind turbines operating at low speed with the advantages of high output, high efficiency, and small size. The generator was designed as a small direct-drive PM generator that can be applied to a kite even at low wind speeds. The RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) of the reel was measured in two ways using a cadence/speedometer sensor and a tachometer while the actual kite. The RPM derived from the experiment was applied to the simulation on the designed generator. The no-load characteristic analysis for the magnetic fields produced for the permanent magnet generator by a permanent magnet and stator winding currents is achieved using a 2D coordinate system. A commercial electromagnetic analysis program, ANSYS Maxwell, was used to model the electromagnetic dynamics.

  • This paper presents the reduction of acoustic noise generated by electromagnetic force in an induction motor of the electrical forklift. After summarizing the electromagnetic excitation forces due to the interaction between the stator/rotor slot permeance and the stator winding magnetomotive force, the effects of the electromagnetic force on the noise and vibration of an induction motor are analyzed. In order to experimentally identify the noise sources of the motor, the signal analyses for noise and vibration are performed by using waterfall plots of noise and vibration spectrums. It is found that severe noise and vibration are caused by the electromagnetic force when the mode number of the excitation shape for a stator is low. Furthermore, it is verified that the motor noise is amplified if the excitation frequency of the electromagnetic force coincides with one of the natural frequencies of the stator. It is experimentally demonstrated that this severe noise can be considerably reduced by structure modifications. Finally, some design guidelines are suggested to develop an induction motor with a low level of noise.
