  • In this paper, the steady-state analysis of the three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by a variable-speed prime mover (VSPM) such as a wind turbine is presented. The steady-state torque-speed characteristics of the VSPM are considered with the three-phase SEIG equivalent circuit for evaluating the operating performances due to the inductive load variations. Furthermore, a PI closed-loop feedback voltage regulation scheme based on the static VAR compensator (SVC) for the three-phase SEIG driven by the VSPM is designed and considered for the wind power generation conditioner. The simulation and experimental results prove the practical effectiveness of the additional SVC with the PI controller-based feedback loop in terms of fast response and high performances.

  • This paper describes the effect of the interconnected wind turbine generators on fault current level of distribution networks. Distributed generator(DG) interconnected with grid can supply the power into a power network not only the normal conditions, but also the fault conditions of distribution network. If the fault happened in the distribution power line with DG, the fault current level measured in a relaying point might be higher than that of distribution network without wind turbine generator due to the contribution of wind farm. Consequently, it may destroy the conventional protective devices applied in the distribution network with DG. Simulation results shows that the current level of fault happened in the power line with DG depends on the power output of DG.

  • Under the national project for the development of 2MW wind energy convert system, we are under development of the prototype of 2MW wind turbine with low speed gearbox. This system adopts low speed gear box with planetary and spur gear and is pitch regulated variable speed type with the synchronous permanent magnet generator. The compromised size of generator in diameter and width are adopted to meet the structural design requirements. In this paper, the concept study for the type, the aerodynamic design for the blade and the details of load calculation will be presented. The detailed characteristics of the system will also be introduced.

  • A PMSG in variable speed wind turbine needs to know the position of rotor for vector control. Since the position sensor has the disadvantage in terms of cost, complexity of the system, a sensorless algorithm is needed. The sensorless strategy using the back EMF estimation is used for PMSG Wind Turbine. This algorithm is comparatively easy to implement than other strategies. This paper introduces the application of stable sensorless control for 2MW direct drive PMSG. In order to confirm the sensorless algorithm, the implementation is proceeded using 2MW direct drive PMSG from no-load condition to full-load condition. To drive 2MW PMSG artificially, 2MW PMSG connected PMSG through the mechanical coupling.

  • This paper proposes a novel simulation method of WPGS (Wind Power Generation System). The rotation speed control method of turbine under variable wind speed using the pitch control is proposed. Moreover, when wind speed exceeds the cut-out wind speed, the turbine will be stopped by controlling pitch angle to 90$^{\circ}$, otherwise it will be controlled to steady-state operation. For the purpose of effective simulation, the SWRW (Simulation method for WPGS using Real Weather condition) is used for the utility interactive WPGS simulation in this paper, in which those of three topics for the WPGS simulation: user-friendly method, applicability to grid-connection and the utilization of the real weather conditions, are satisfied. It is impossible to consider the real weather conditions in the WPGS simulation using the EMTP type of simulators and PSPICE, etc. External parameter of the real weather conditions is necessary to ensure the simulation accuracy. The simulation of the WPGS using the real weather conditions including components modeling of wind turbine system is achieved by introducing the interface method of a non-linear external parameter and FORTRAN using PSCAD/EMTDC in this paper. The simulation of long-term, short-term, over cut-out and under cut-out wind speeds will be peformed by the proposed simulation method effectively. The efficiency of wind power generator, power converter and flow of energy are analyzed by wind speed of the long-term simulation. The generator output and current supplied into utility can be obtained by the short-term simulation. Finally, transient-state of the WPGS can be analyzed by the simulation results of over cut-out and under cut-out wind speeds, respectively.

  • A wind generator system model includes wind model, rotor dynamics, synchronous generator, power converter, distribution line and infinite bus. This paper investigates the low-Voltage Ride-Through capability of PMSG wind turbine in a variable speed. The drive train of a wind turbine on 2-mass modeling can observe the shaft torsional vibration when the low-voltage occur. To reduce the torsional vibration when the low-voltage occur, this paper designs suppression control algorithm of the torsional vibration and implements simulation. A Matlab/Simulink is used to investigate the response during the transient state.

  • In this paper, a wind power simulator is designed and implemented. To realize the torque of wind blade, a DC motor is used as a variable torque input device. An induction machine is used as a generator of which speed is controlled to maintain the optimal tip speed ratio during wind speed change. Input torque of system is controlled by armature current of DC motor and speed is controlled by generator control unit using field oriented control algorithm. Various control algorithms such as MPPT, soft start up, the simulator reactive power control, can be developed and tested using the simulator.

This study is implemented by MARTLB & SIMULINK. The simulation shall be performed by assuming single line to ground fault generated in the system Generator power, rotor speed, terminal voltage, system voltage, and fault current shall be observed following the performance of simulation. The fault current change will be dealt through the simulation results for fault current of wind generation system following the grid-connected transformer winding connection and the simulation result by the transformer neutral ground method.

  • This paper presents modeling and control for the emerging IGBT converter-based high-voltage direct-current system (IGBT-HVDC). This paper adds to the representation of the IGBT-HVDC system in the dq-synchronous reference frame and its decoupled control scheme. Additionally, since the IGBT-HVDC is able to actively support the grid due to its capacity to control independently active and reactive power production, a reactive power control scheme is presented in order to regulate/contribute to the voltage at a remote location by taking into account its operational state and limits. The ability of the control scheme is assessed and discussed by means of simulations using ahybrid power system, which consists of a permanent magnetic synchronous-generator (PMSG) based wind turbine, an IGBT-HVDC, and a local load.
