  • The design of a piezoelectric actuator for micro droplet ejecting system has bee studied. The actuator has been evaluated by using commercial FEM package and its displacement are measured by LDV(Laser Doppler Vibrometer). The characteristics of the actuator are evaluated with varation in a ratio of width of PZT to that of membrane and thickness ratio of PZT to membrane.

  • Self-compacting Concrete (SCC) Filled Square steel Tubes (SCFST) was used to strengthen square RC columns. To establish the efficiency of this strengthening method, 17 columns were tested under axial compression loading including 3 RC columns without any strengthening (WRC), 1 RC column strengthened with concrete jacket (CRC), 13 RC columns strengthened with self-compacting concrete filled square steel tubes (SRC). The experimental results showed that the use of SCFST is interesting since the ductility and the bearing capacity of the RC columns are greatly improved. The improvement ratio is significantly affected by the nominal wall thickness of steel tubes (t), the strength grade of strengthening concrete (C), and the length-to-width ratio (L / B) of the specimens. In order to quantitatively analyze the effect of these test parameters on axial loading behavior of the SRC columns, three performance indices, enhancement ratio (ER), ductility index (DI), and confinement ratio (CR), were used. The strength of the SRC columns obtained from the experiments was then employed to verify the proposed mode referring to the relevant codes. It was found that codes DBJ13-51 could relatively predict the strength of the SRC columns accurately, and codes AIJ and BS5400 were relatively conservative.

  • Stepped I-beams having increased moment of inertia at one end (singly stepped beam) or both ends (doubly stepped beams) can often be seen in construction of bridges due to material economy and easy fabrication of the section. This paper presents the results of the parametric study of lateral torsional buckling of monosymmetric stepped I-beams with constant depth subjected to uniform moment. Design recommendations were made based on the finite element results of the models having different combinations of monosymmetric ratio, stepped length ratio, flange thickness ratio and flange width ratio. The proposed approximation is acceptable based on the parameters given having mostly conservative results. The proposed equation can be further used to extend the study to different loading conditions.

  • Feature size of Cu interconnects keep shrinking into several tens of nanometer level. For this reason, the Cu interconnects face challenging issues such as increase of electro-migration, line-width dependent electrical resistivity increase, and gap-filling difficulty in high aspect ratio structures. As the thickness of the Cu film decreases below 30 nm, the electrical resistivity is not any more constant, but rather exponential. Research on alloying with other elements have been started to inhibit such escalation in the electrical resistivity. A faint trace of Al added in Cu film by sputtering was reported to contribute to suppression of the increase of the electrical resistivity. From an industrial point of view, we introduced cyclic metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) in order to control Al concentration in the Cu film more easily by controlling the delivery time ratio of Cu and Al precursors. The amount of alloying element could be lowered at level of below 1 at%. Process of the alloy formation was applied into gap-filling to evaluate the performance of the gap-filling. Voidless gap-filling even into high aspect ratio trenches was achieved. In-depth analysis will be discussed in detail.

  • In this study the characteristics of chip formation of the cold drawn Bi-S free machining steels were assessed. And for comparison those of the cold drawn Pb-S free machining steel the hot rolled low carbon steel which has MnS as free machining inclusions and the conventional steels were also investigated. During chip formation the cold drawn free machining steels show relatively little change in thickness and width of chip compare to those of the conventional carbon steels. And a single parameter which indicates the degree of deformation during chip formation chip cross-section area ratio is introduced. The chip cross-section area ratio is defined as chip cross-section area is divided by undeformed chip cross-section area. The variational patters of the chip cross-section area ratio of the materials cut are similar to those of the shear strain values. The shear stress however seems to be dependent on the carbon content of the materials. The cold drawn Bi-S and Pb-S steels show nearly the same chip forming behaviors and the energy consumed during chip formation is almost same. A low carbon steel without free machining aids shows poor chip breakability due to its high ductility. By introducing a small amount of free machining inclusions such as MnS Bi, Pb or merely increasing carbon content the chip breakability improves significantly.

  • Ferromagnets(FM)-Al-$O_{x}$ -Ferromagnets (FM) tunneling junctions were evaluated by changing the fabricating conditions of an Al-X$/_{x}$ layer. The junction composed of a thicker Al-$O_{x}$ shows the low resistance and the stable MR ratio about 16% in a wide range of oxidation time. For the junctions with the thinner Al-$O_{x}$ , they showed a fast increase of the barrier width as an increase of an oxidation time and exhibited a strong bias dependence. As oxidation time increased, the coercivity ($H_{c}$ ) of bottom Co layer increased gradually due to the local oxidation of Co bottom layer at a interface. However, the small formation of Co oxide did not largely influence on the deterioration of MR ratio.

  • The performance of ferrite composite microwave absorber has been evaluated as the matching frequency, the matching thickness and the band width. Especially, matching frequency is very important in application of microwave absorber because it determines operating frequency range. In this study, the ferrite composite microwave absorbers consisted Ni-Zn ferrite and Zn2Y ferroxplana were prepared in order to control matching frequency. Then, the variation of the material constants and microwave absorbing characteristics were investigated with various ferrite mixing ratio. The material constants of ferrite composite microwave absorber could be controlled by variation ferrite mixing ratio. Therefore, it was confirm that matching frequency of microwave absorber could be shifted by control of material constants.

  • A Finite Element (FE)-based model is proposed for predicting the roll force in an edger. The model is developed on the basis of the hypothetical mode of rolling and the least-squares regression analysis from the result of the FE approach. This model reflects the effect of process variables affected by the roll force, and has three dimensionless parameters, I.e., shape factor, reduction ratio and width-to-thickness ratio. The model prediction compared satisfactorily with experiment observations.

  • In this study, the ideal human body of adult woman is to express, and the body dimension of the woman model is produced and compared in doll model with the bodily dimension by presenting the body pattern to produce the dolls with the ideal body proportion visually. For the research process, by collecting, comparing and analyzing the body pattern of the currently used embroidery fashion doll, the pattern of body suit that displays the body of women is designed with the size of model with the height of 168cm. This is scaled for 1/4 of its entirety to make the doll of around 40cm and produced the research doll with two revisions. When compared with the ratio of each part of the body for the height of the produced research doll with the bodily ration of the major ratio of the height of the standard bodily size of Size Korea 2004, the ratio of the category of the height is almost consistent, and the width category is shown approximately 80~85%, waist for 75%, thickness category for approximately 90% as the ideal ratio.

  • The steel design based on the width of transverse crack which is the major factor to affect a long-term performance of continuously reinforced concrete pavement was developed. For this study, twenty-one cities of Texas were selected and the temperature data was collected at those locations during the past ten years. From the data, zero-stress temperatures were calculated by the PavePro program and the widths of transverse crack were analyzed by the CRCP program. The variables used to this numerical analysis were slab thickness, coefficient of thermal expansion of concrete, steel ratio, and design temperature. The total of 448 factorial runs were made and the regression analysis was performed using the results. Steel ratios from the regression equations were backcalculated and a steel design table was proposed.
