  • In this paper, we propose a new method of automatic white balance which is one of the image signal processing techniques. Our method is conceptually based on gray world assumption. However, while previous methods generate linear results as multiplying pixel values by a gain, our method generates non-linear results using the feature of B-Spline curves. The two merits of deriving non-linear results are preventing AWB failure from transforming strong color of high level into wrong color and well preserving original contrast of an input image.

  • This paper is for the segmentation and volume calculation of the white matter and gray matter from brain MRI. We segment white matter, gray matter and CSF from the Brain image in the normal and abnormal person, and calculate the volume of segmented tissue. In this paper, we present a new method of extracting white matter, gray matter and CSF and calculation its volume from MR images for brain. And we have developed the determining method of threshold that can extract white matter and gray matter from MR image for brain through the analysis of gray values represented by ratio of each component. We proposed the calculation method of volume for white matter and gray matter by using number of extracted pixels in each slice. This algorithm input CSF/Head volume ratio and age of patient and calculates discriminant value through discriminant expression, classifies normal and abnormal using calculated discriminant value. As a result, we could blow that white matter and gray matter volume decrease and CSF volume increase as we grow gold.

  • There exist some restrictions and difficulties in performing follicular unit extraction (FUE) in white-haired patients, for several reasons. In this paper, we introduce a novel technique for visualizing white hair during the punching procedure and graft preparation in FUE for white-haired patients. In white-haired older male patients, we dyed the surrounding scalp skin purple with a gentian violet solution-stained toothpick. Our method has several advantages: surgeons can easily focus on the center of the follicular unit and rapidly perform punching, they can recognize the condition of the harvested follicular units during FUE, and the hair transplant team can secure a clear view for trimming and loading into the implanter. We suggest that scalp dyeing in difficult FUE procedures, especially in patients with white hair, may be a simple method that provides a good visualization for donor site harvesting and for microdissection.

  • Roll formed steel bolts are electrodeposited with Zn-Ni to protect themselves from corrosion. However, white storage stain or white rust(corrosion) is found on Zn-Ni electrodeposited surface of steel bolts when they are exposed to moisture. In this paper a new process is introduced to protect Zn-Ni electrodeposited steel bolt from white storage stain or white rust for a long time under the salt spray test and high humidity test conditions. The better corrosion resistance could be gotten by the additional process of Ni-P electroless deposition and heat treatment to conventional manufacturing method of Zn-Ni coated steel bolt. The corrosion resistance of Zn-Al powder slurry coated steel bolt showed better than that of Zn-Ni electrodeposited one.

  • It is quite common today for bride to wear white-colored wedding-dress in wedding ceremony. When does the color date back to? What does the “white” mean? Which other colors had been used for wedding dress and why? This research paper aims to answer those historical questions through literature review. It is found here that the “white” began to be generally accepted for a wedding dress color in the 18th century, and that the color became an official one since the marriage of Queen Victoria's (i.e. 1840). Prior to that, other colors were taken rather than the “white”. In ancient Greece and Roma, “Red” and “Yellow” were used to remove devils or to bring fortune. In medieval society, luxurious wedding dresses were popular and various colors were adopted in order to show up family power among leading classes. The “White” has meant purity of bride since the 18th century. However, two world wars in the 20th century happened to lead some brides in economic difficulty wear “black” colored wedding dress for a practical reason. After the world wars, some light colors such as white, beige, ivory are to be used in wedding dress.

  • Conventional cryptographic algorithms are not sufficient to protect secret keys and data in white-box environments, where an attacker has full visibility and control over an executing software code. For this reason, cryptographic algorithms have been redesigned to be resistant to white-box attacks. The first white-box AES (WB-AES) implementation was thought to provide reliable security in that all brute force attacks are infeasible even in white-box environments; however, this proved not to be the case. In particular, Billet and others presented a cryptanalysis of WB-AES with 230 time complexity, and Michiels and others generalized it for all substitution-linear transformation ciphers. Recently, a collision-based cryptanalysis was also reported. In this paper, we revisit Chow and others's first WB-AES implementation and present a conditional re-encoding method for cryptanalysis protection. The experimental results show that there is approximately a 57% increase in the memory requirement and a 20% increase in execution speed.

  • Practical ambient excitations of engineering structures usually do not comply with the stationary-white-noise assumption in traditional operational modal analysis methods due to heavy traffic, wind guests, and other disturbances. In order to eliminate spurious modes induced by non-white noise inputs, the improved stochastic subspace identification based on a delay index is proposed in this paper for a representative kind of stationary non-white noise ambient excitations, which have nonzero autocorrelation values near the vertical axis. It relaxes the stationary-white-noise assumption of inputs by avoiding corresponding unqualified elements in the Hankel matrix. Details of the improved stochastic subspace identification algorithms and determination of the delay index are discussed. Numerical simulations on a four-story frame and laboratory vibration experiments on a simply supported beam have demonstrated the accuracy and reliability of the proposed method in eliminating spurious modes under non-white noise ambient excitations.

  • Pulping of paper mulberry (Broussonetia kazinoki) white bast has been examined by novel atmospheric pressure pulping methods. The viscosity of pulp has been found to be highly sensitive and variable with pulping methods. Therefore, selections of pulping chemicals and conditions are very important. Two kinds of pulping procedures were employed for the high viscosity pulp manufacturing. The one is ammonium oxalate treatment and the other is sodium chlorite and acetic acid treatment. Not only chemical components and pulp yields which of paper mulberry white bast but also water retention value (WRV), whiteness index, yellowness index, and colors of every pulp were examined. The hot water, 1% NaOH, and ethanol-benzene extractives which of paper mulberry white bast were 4.48%, 28.45%, and 2.84%, respectively. The contents of holocellulose, lignin, and ash were 90.66%, 1.05%, and 2.18%, respectively. In the pulp yields, group 1 which treated with only ammonium oxalate were 77.04-81.71%, group 2 which treated with ammonium oxalate and acidified sodium chlorite separately and washed between first and second stages were 64.15-83.90%, group 3 which treated with ammonium oxalate and acidified sodium chlorite separately and not washed between first and second stages were 57.35-73.17%, and group 4 which treated with mixed ammonium oxalate and acidified sodium chlorite were 66.58-68.43%. The pulps treated with acidified sodium chlorite showed high whiteness index, but the pulps treated with only ammonium oxalate showed high yellowness index. Variations in the combinations of treatments resulted in different pulp characteristics.

  • The purpose of this research was to identify causes of damage of wax-treated volume of "The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty". As one of the efficient restoration methods, analyses of damaged state of reproduced wax-treated paper through tests of degradation of wax-treated paper under an artificial setting were performed, and in particular, differences between lightness and acidity were observed. On the whole, it was confirmed that yellow wax-treated papers were more stable than white wax-treated papers against artificial aging treatment, which is thought to be because the white wax-treated paper was more affected by a variety of substances interacting with paper than yellow wax-treated paper under artificially aged conditions, which were added in the course of refinement and processing operation such as decolorization and deodorization.

  • The differential white blood cell count plays an important role in the diagnosis of different diseases. It is a tedious task to count these classes of cell manually. An automatic counter using computer vision helps to perform this medical test rapidly and accurately. Most commercial-available automatic white blood cell analysis composed mainly 3 steps including segmentation, feature extraction and classification. In this paper we concentrate on the first step in automatic white-blood-cell analysis by proposing a segmentation scheme that utilizes a benefit of active contour. Specifically, the binary image is obtained by thresolding of the input blood smear image. The initial shape of active is then placed roughly inside the white blood cell and allowed to grow to fit the shape of individual white blood cell. The white blood cell is then separated using the extracted contour. The force that drives the active contour is the combination of gradient vector flow force and balloon force. Our purposed technique can handle very promising to separate the remaining red blood cells.
