Diffusion Behavior Characteristics of Some Solutes in Surfactant Aqueous Solutions (계면활성제 수용액에서 몇가지 용질의 확산거동 특성)

  • The diffusion behavior of phenol, toluene and benzoic acid in aqueous SDS solution was examined. It showed a similar experimental results for phenol and toluene. The diffusion coefficients of the solutes were characterized by the presence of two distinct regions: below the cmc and above the cmc. For phenol and toluene, it remained approximately unchanged when the SDS concentration was below the cmc. Above the cmc there was an apparent decrease in the diffusion coefficients of the two solutes with increasing SDS concentration. However, for benzoic acid the diffusion behavior was different from that of phenol and toluene. The diffusion coefficient of benzoic acid decreased slightly with increasing SDS concentration, however the diffusion coefficient was almost constant above the cmc. For benzoic acid the diffusion behavior was dependent on the joint contribution of benzoic acid molecules as well as the benzoate ions.

  • The characterization of zinc diffusion processes applied for high-speed avalanche photodiodes has been examined. The different diffusion process conditions for InP test structures were explored. The zinc diffusion profiles, such as the diffusion depth and the zinc dopant concentration, were examined using secondary ion mass spectrometry with varying the process variables and material parameters. It is observed that the diffusion profiles are severly impacted on the process parameters, such as the amount of Zn$_3$P$_2$ source and the diffusion time, as well as material parameters, such as doping concentration of diffusion layer. These results can be utilized for the high-speed avalanche photodiode fabrication.

  • Since technological innovation, adoption, and diffusion is a fundamental engine for a company's competitiveness and in turn a nation's industrial development, diffusion of technological innovation has been one of popular research themes to many researchers and scholars for decades. Especially, in today's knowledge-based economy, the IT technology became a fundamental infrastructure for a nation and thus their impact on a nation's economy has grown to be tremendous. This paper investigates the patterns of technological diffusion of 16 telecommunications services. Firstly, we identify the optimal diffusion model which represents the 15 IT innovation best in terms of goodness-of-fit. Secondly, based on the best model identified we cluster the 16 IT innovations according to their diffusion characteristics such as penetration rate and diffusion speed. Lastly, we categorize the innovations in terms of technology (voice-based innovation and data-based innovation) and demand (household-use and business-use) attributes, and compare their diffusion patterns and found some meaningful difference in diffusion patterns. We hope the result helpful to corporate managers as well as policy makers in relevant areas.

  • The diffusion layer within MEA(membrane electrode assembly) has been evaluated important factor for improvement of cell performance in DMFC. The diffusion layer in MEA structure leads to the reduction of catalyst loss in active catalysts layer as well as prevention of water-flooding in cathode. Cell performance is directly affected by interior properties of diffusion layer materials. Acetylene Black and $RuO_2$ with large pore size and low porosity compared to Vulcan XC-72R gave better performance caused by vigorous methanol diffusion and water removal. And $RuO_2$ as diffusion layer materials showed different behavior in anode and cathode compartment, that is, diffusion layers in anode and cathode side make methanol diffusion and water removal facilitate, respectively.

  • Calcium is well known role for signal transduction in a neuron cell. Various processes and parameters modulate the intracellular calcium signaling process. A number of experimental and theoretical attempts are reported in the literature for study of calcium signaling in neuron cells. But still the role of various processes, components and parameters involved in calcium signaling is still not well understood. In this paper an attempt has been made to develop two dimensional finite element model to study calcium diffusion in neuron cells. The JRyR, JSERCA and JLeak, the exogenous buffers like EGTA and BAPTA, and diffusion coefficients have been incorporated in the model. Appropriate boundary conditions have been framed. Triangular ring elements have been employed to discretized the region. The effect of these parameters on calcium diffusion has been studied with the help of numerical results.

  • The effects of the sample viscosity and volume on the convective flows induced by temperature gradient in PGSE-NMR self-diffusion measurements at high temperature have been investigated. The experimental results showed that the viscosity of the liquid sample strongly affects the magnitude of the convective flows as well as the diffusion coefficient itself. It was also found that the convective flows increase as the sample volume increase.

So, Technological innovation capacity of enterprises is important factor of business success. To improve technological innovation capacity, enterprises should well utilize their internal knowledges and external knowledges which come from technological diffusion. To well utilize external knowledges of enterprises they should well understand external knowledge flow. Especially knowledge flow also occurs frequently between nations, understanding of knowledge flow which occurs between nations is important to improve nation`s technological innovation capacity. So this paper presents comparison of technological innovation capacity and knowledge diffusion flow between nations.

  • In this work, we studied the equilibrium, rate and rate determining step of uranium adsorption on RGP resins of MR type prepared by varying the degree of crosslinking and the amount of diluent. The equilibrium of uranium adsorption on RGP resins were well explained by Frendrich isotherm as well as Langmuir isotherm model. The amount of adsorption and adsorption rate increase with the adsorption temperature. The heat of the adsorption was 11 kcal/mol. The adsorption rates of uranium on RGP resins were decreased in the order of RGP-10(50)>RGP-1(50)>RGP-2(50)>RGP-5(50)>RGP-0(50) and RGP-2(75)>RGP-2(100)>RGP-2(50)>RGP-2(30)>RGP-2(0). The diffusion resistance of uranium into RGP resin increased as follows; molecular diffusion < pore diffusion < surface diffusion. On the other hand, the surface diffusion was more dominative than the pore diffusion in intraparticle region. Thus, this result indicates that the adsorption mechanism of uranium on RGP resins is intraparticle diffusion controlled.

  • Purpose: To study the concentration distribution and diffusion depth in tinted lenses using the law of diffusion. Methods: The measured values taken from experiments were fitted with the theoretical fitting curve induced on the basis of Fick's second law of diffusion. Results: The fitting curves were in very good agreement with the measured values. As the results, we found the quantitative relationship between mass of dye solution diffused into the tinted lens per unit area and dyeing time, and evaluated concentration distribution of dye in tinted lens, diffusion depth, etc. Conclusions: The dyeing mechanism of tinted lenses can be well described by diffusion theory.
