  • The use of thin plate increases due to the need for light weight in large ship. Thin plate is easily distorted and has residual stress by welding heat. Therefore, the thin plates should be carefully joined to minimize the welding deformation. In this study, the welding deformation of PCTC which use a thin plate is investigated by using equivalent load method. The analysis model of 10, 11, 12, upper and garage deck is composed of thin plate of 6mm which is susceptible to welding heat. For two different welding sequences, the welding deformation is calculated and its trend is investigated. The influence of gravity on welding deformation is studied.

  • Almost every die for automobiles must be corrected or remodeled for minor geometrical changes or fur better hardness characteristics by an arc welding process. Although many other kinds of arc welding processes have been automated with robots, the molten metal deposition process for die remodeling still depends entirely on experienced welders. In this study, a database for bead shapes with respect to welding parameters is constructed through experiments to automate molten metal deposition by the arc welding process. Changes in the welding parameters for inclined base metal are studied to consider the effect of die geometries on the welding process.

  • Recently, studies about application of magnesium alloy sheet to automotive bodies are on the increase. For application to automotive bodies, researches about characteristics of resistance spot welding of magnesium alloy sheet are essential. Electrode life of resistance spot welding of magnesium alloy is very short due to sticking of magnesium alloy to copper alloy electrode. To increase electrode life, most effective method is inserting cover plate between electrode and magnesium sheet. But application of cover plate to actual process is difficult and decreases welding productivity. Process tape supplied automatically as cover plate can minimize lose of productivity and increase welding quality. In this study, resistance spot welding of magnesium alloy is carried out with applying process tape. Acceptable welding current region according to electrode force and welding time is determined.

Analysis of Welding Phenomena and Effect of Short Circuit Current Rise Slope in the High Speed $CO_2$ Welding of Steel Sheets ($CO_2$박판 고속용접에서 용접현상 분석과 전류상승기울기의 영향)

  • In high speed $CO_2$ welding, it has been blown to produce no sound bead with undercut or humping bead. In this study welding phenomena through synchronized high speed camera and output welding voltage and current waveform has been analyzed. For the purpose to improve a welding bead, effect of short circuit current rise slope has been examined. With commercial power source it was produced no sound bead by instantaneous short circuit, long arc period and stubbing at welding speed 2.5mm/min Humping bead or undercut were showed by instantaneous short circuit and long arc period. Also, the weld bead was not formed during the long short circuit period after stubbing start and long arc extinguishment period after wire sticking by failure of arc regeneration, because the droplet was not transferred to weld pool. With increasing short circuit current rise slope the frequency of stubbing was decreased and the normal short circuit rate was increased. A control of short circuit current rise slope was effective factor in high speed welding.

  • Friction welding is welding method to use frictional heat of two material. A defect of friction welding is that create flash. The flash is part that must have cut after welding finished. But the welding part with flow gallery by friction welding can't cut flash. Therefore the welding part with flow gallery was designed with no effect in flow. In this research, decide the welding shape parameter of welding part with flow gallery and do friction welding analysis. In friction welding analysis, must input necessary S-S curve, friction coefficient by temperature change, upset pressure, RPM etc. According to analysis result, decided the optimal shape of welding part with no effect in flow.

  • Laser-rotating arc hybrid welding was introduced by combining $CO_2$ laser and rotating gas metal arc welding. While the arc rotation enhances the weld pool motion, it reduces the undercut formation which is one of most critical weld defects in the conventional laser-arc hybrid welding. This research investigated the bead characteristics according to the welding parameters such as frequency of rotation, welding voltage, shielding gas composition and interspacing distance between laser and we. The welding parameters were selected to reduce spatter generation and ensure sound weld beads fur bead welding and butt welding with various joint gaps. Gap bridging ability was improved, such that the sound weld beads were achieved for butt joint with up to 2mm joint sap, with no adjustment of CTWD(Contact tip-to-workpiece distance) and electrode diameter.

  • In this study, the purpose finds out the best welding conditions for bonding of electric wire by ultrasonic welding. The material was plastic-insulating low-voltage-cabels for automobiles. The experiment varied the values of welding time and welding pressure and fixed the values of amplitude and energy. With the facts, the best condition for ultrasonic welding to achieve bonding exactly is gained according to the size of the cross-sectional area of the cable, and the adhesive intensity is greatly influenced by the variables of welding time and welding pressure. Also when the welding time and welding time and welding pressure increase as the cross-sectional areas of the cable increase the welding result in gained exactly.

  • This study proposes an optimal design for a robotic welding system for a high-strength steel armor plate. In order to identify the welding defect parameters, we analyzed the 4M (man, machine, materials, method) characteristics diagram, as well as a cause and effect matrix, to improve the productivity and quality of welding defects. From these analyses, we designed optimal welding conditions and carried out welding tests -- such as mechanical testing and macro structure tests - with positive results. We determined that it was possible to obtain a quality similar to manual welding with our robotic welding system. In the future, we expect that the system will be used as inspiration for future welding system designs.

  • It was investigated that two rods of aluminium can be welded by hot extru-pressure welding method with stepped welding dies, and that the welding pressure on the welding surface were analyzed by computer simulation according to the stepped shapes of welding dies. It was known by computer simulation that welding pressure on the welding section of rods welded using stepped welding dies without eccentricity is lowerer than the welding pressure of rods welded using stepped welding dies with eccentricity of welding surface, and that the welding pressure on the welding section of rods using eccentric-inclined stepped welding dies is higher than the welding pressure of rods using stepped welding dies without eccentricity. And it was known by experiments that two rods of aluminium can be welded on the end sections by hot pressure welding method using eccentric-inclined stepped welding dies without relative rotational movement of contacted aluminium rods needed for the purpose of friction heating and pressure.
