  • VIRGO 104 is a low carbon martensitic stainless steel that is applied to the famous Three Gorges Project. By using VOD melting process VIRGO 104 has low carbon and [H] [O] contents, and shows excellent mechanical properties and weldability. The best solution to guarantee welding quality is PWHT by 600 Cx8h.

  • Super alloys are typically used for the liquid thruster in the aerospace industry. In this work, The bead-on-plate welding of Inconel 600, Inconel 625 and Haynes 230 using Nd:YAG laser are studied, in order to examine the effects of experimental parameters on their weldability. The micro-hardness and tensile strength of the specimens are also analyzed, to obtain the optimal welding conditions.

  • This study deals with the friction weldability of A7075-T6 having high specific strength. The friction welding conditions used are rotation speed 2000rpm, friction pressure 40MPa, friction time 1.5sec, upset pressure 40~100MPa, upset time 5sec. First, upset length was measured by displacement transducer. The plastic flow in 7075-T6 weld generates convex lens shaped resion by friction and concave lens shaped resion by axial force. Under the condition of upset pressure 85MPa, the friction welds have tensile strength of 552MPa and shear strength of 262MPa.

  • Roughness of the surface to be welded is one of the important factors affecting the weldabilities on the pressure welding. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influences of the surface roughness upon the welding process and the weldability of pressure welds, using Aluminium AA1050 plates treated by various surface polishing The results obtained are as following. 1. The optimum welding deformation is about 38(%)-42(%) in cold pressure weld. 2. The grinding work on the weld surface is superior to milling and paper polishing. 3. Weld pressure must be beyond $0.5kg/mm^2$ in order that the bond may be achieved.

  • Magnesium alloys are the lightest in commercial alloys. Also, they have high damping capacity and the shielding effect of electromagnetic waves. Recently, magnesium alloys have received considerable attention from the transportation industry. Many manufacturers of cars try to increase the use of magnesium alloys in their product. In order to evaluate the weldability of magnesium alloy, gas-tungsten arc welding(GTAW) have been applied to the AZ31, AZ61 and AZ91 alloys and established the optimum welding conditions.
