An automated injection molding design methodology has been developed to optimize multiple quality attributes, which are usually in conflict with each other, in injection molded parts. For the optimization, commercial CAE simulation tools and optimization techniques are integrated into the methodology. To decal with the multiple objective problem the relative closeness computed in TOPSIS(Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) is used as a performance measurement index for optimization multiple part defects. To attain robustness against process variation, Taguchi's quadratic loss function is introduced in the TOPSIS. Also, the modified complex method is used as an optimization tool to optimize objective function. The verification of the developed design methodology was carried out on simulation software with an actual model. Applied to production this methodology will be useful to companies in reducing their product development time and enhancing their product quality.

Laser welding is usually a more effective method than electron-beam one since a vacuum chamber is not required. It is important for joining Zr-1%Nb (E110) alloy in a manufacturing process of nuclear fuel rods. In the present work, effect of energy parameters of pulsed laser welding on properties of butt joints of sheets with a thickness of 0.5 mm is investigated. The most efficient combination has been found (8-11 J pulse energy, 10-14 ms pulse duration, 780-810 W peak pulse power, 3 Hz pulse frequency, 1.12 mm/s welding speed). The results show that ultimate strength under static loading can not be used as a quality criterion for zirconium alloys welds. Increased shielding gas flow rate does not allow to protect weld metal totally and contributes to defect formation without using special nozzles. Several types of imperfections of the welds have been found, but the major problem is branching microcracks on the surface of the welds. It is difficult to identify the cause of their appearance without additional research on improving the welding zone protection (gas composition and flow rate as well as nozzle configuration) and studying the hydrogen content in the welds.

Laser welding has attracted great attention as a tool used to join electrical steel coils. In this study, laser butt welding for electrical steel coil joining was conducted using the Taguchi method. It was found that structural defects such as void sand cracks were not produced in welds. This indicated that the performance of laser welding in electrical steel was excellent. According to the Taguchi analysis, the total welding quality index (TWQI) considering the bead height and roughness and tensile strength of the weld joint was almost evenly affected by laser power, welding speed, and focal position. The optimum welding conditions to maximize the TWQI were a laser power of 1220W, welding speed of 90 mm/s, and a focal position of 1mm. The regress model predicting the TWQI was also developed using the surface response method. We found that the model predicts measured values with an average error of 16.36%.
With the advance of the robotic welding process, procedure optimization that selects the welding procedure and predicts bead width that will be deposited is increased. A major concern involving procedure optimization should define a welding procedure that can be shown to be the best with respect to some standard and chosen combination of process parameters, which give an acceptable balance between production rate and the scope of defects for a given situation. This paper presents a new algorithm to establish a mathematical model f3r predicting bead width through a neural network and multiple regression methods, to understand relationships between process parameters and bead width, and to predict process parameters on bead width for GMA welding process. Using a series of robotic arc welding, additional multi-pass butt welds were carried out in order to verify the performance of the neural network estimator and multiple regression methods as well as to select the most suitable model. The results show that not only the proposed models can predict the bead width with reasonable accuracy and guarantee the uniform weld quality, but also a neural network model could be better than the empirical models.

This study proposes improved welding tools for magnesium alloys. Two types of tools were used for friction stir welding (FSW). The effect of the welding tools on the FSW joints was investigated with a fixed welding speed of 200mm/min and various rotation speeds of 400 to 800 rpm. After FSW, the joints were cross-sectioned perpendicular to the welding direction to investigate the defects. A tensile test and Vickers hardness test were conducted to identity the mechanical properties of the joints. Defects were observed when the rotation speed was 400 rpm, regardless of the welding tool, and the amount of defects tended to decrease with increases in rotational speed. Defect-free welds were obtained when the rotation speed was 800 rpm. The best weld quality was acquired using the C type welding tool. The rotation speed of 800 rpm and welding speed of 200 mm/min produced the best joining properties. The ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation of the welded region were 90.0%, 69.1%, and 83.2% those of the base metal, respectively.
Laser surface Melting Process is getting hardening layer that has enough depth of hardening layer as well as no defects by melting surface of substrate. This study used CW(Continuous Wave) Yb:YAG and STD11. Laser beam speed, power and beam interval are fixed at 70mm/sec, 2.8kW and 800um respectively. Hardness in the weld zone are equal to 400Hv regardless of melting zone, remelting zone overlapped by next beam and HAZ. Similarly, microstructures in all weld zone consist of dendrite structure that arm spacing is $3{\sim}4{\mu}m$, matrix is ${\gamma}$(Austenite) and dendrite boundary consists of ${\gamma}$ and $M_7C_3$ of eutectic phase. This microstructure crystallizes from liquid to ${\gamma}$ of primary crystal and residual liquid forms ${\gamma}$ and $M_7C_3$ of eutectic phase by eutectic reaction at $1266^{\circ}C$. After solidification is complete, primary crystal and eutectic phase remain at room temperature without phase transformation by quenching. On the other hand, microstructures of substrate consist of ferrite, fine $M_{23}C_6$ and coarse $M_7C_3$ that have 210Hv. Microstructures in the HAZ consist of fine $M_{23}C_6$ and coarse $M_7C_3$ like substrate. But, $M_{23}C_6$ increases and matrix was changed from ferrite to bainite that has hardness above 400Hv. Partial Melted Zone is formed between melting zone and HAZ. Partial Melted Zone near the melting zone consists of ${\gamma}$, $M_7C_3$ and martensite and Partial Melted Zone near the HAZ consists of eutectic phase around ${\gamma}$ and $M_7C_3$. Hardness is maximum 557Hv in the partial melted zone.
The Korea Industrial Standards (KS) stipulates methods and test procedures for measuring the horizontal combustibility of cellular plastics exposed to small flames (KS M ISO 9772:2018) and recommendations regarding the magnetic digestion of extruded polystyrene insulation (XPS) for measurement results (KS M 3808:2020). Although products that are certified to conform to KS standards must have burning characteristics (self-extinguishing), they are incinerated and spread by welds at construction sites, causing significant human and property damages. In this study, XPS produced by five companies, certified by KS, and sold in the market were purchased and tested for ignition and diffusion caused by a weld bullion at a construction site. The results showed that the five products had differences in performance. Three out of the five products were found to be self-saturated, but the other two were easily ignited and diffused, making it difficult for them to be self-extinguishing. Based on the result of this experimental investigation in line with the KS regulations, all the three types of products, including two types of products that were incinerated through weld defects, were found to be non-self-extinguishing, as specified in KS M 3808.

In the GTA welding process of Al 7075 alloy using different types of filler metals, the tensile test and micro-hardness test were conducted to evaluate the mechanical characteristics. Also, the radiographic test result showed that the weld met the criterion of level 1 in accordance with KS D 0242 for verifying the welding integrity and there were no welding defects. The tensile test result obtained using Al 7075 as a filler metal showed that the material was fractured in the weld zone. The tensile strengths of the materials using Al 7075 and ER 4043 as the filler metal were about 240MPa and 253MPa, their yield strengths were about 132MPa and 120MPa and their elongation percentages were 6.6% and 13%, respectively. The micro-hardness value of the deposited metal zone when using Al 7075 as the filler metal was Hv 132. However, the micro-hardness of the material using ER4043 as the filler metal was about 24% lower than that using Al 7075. When the chemical composition of the filler metal is the same as that of the material itself, fracture can occur in the deposited metal zone. Therefore, it is not desirable to use the same material as the filler metal for the welding of Al 7075 alloy. Moreover, the use of Al-Si based ER 4043 as a filler metal is more desirable than using the same material as a filler metal for welding Al 7075.

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process involving the frictional heat between the materials and tools. The amount of heat conducted into the workpiece determines the quality of the welded zone. Excessive heat input is the cause of oxides and porosity defects, and insufficient heat input can cause problems, such as tunnel defects. Therefore, analyzing the temperature history and distribution at the center of the Friction Stir Welded zone is very important. In this study, the temperature distribution of the friction stir welding region of an AZ61 magnesium alloy was investigated. To achieve this goal, the temperature and metal flow was predicted using the finite element method. In FE analysis, the welding tool was simplified and the friction condition was optimized. Moreover, the temperature measuring test at the center of the welding region was performed to verify the FE results. In this study, the tool rotation speed was a more dominant factor than the welding speed. In addition, the predicted temperature at the center of the welding region showed good agreement with the measurement results within the error range of 5.4% - 7.7%.

This paper aims to compare the ability to detect notch defects existing in the plate and welded area using a flexible ECA (eddy current array) probe with OmniScan MX and MS-5800E. The characteristics of signals with various frequencies and lift-offs were also compared. As a result, when signals of frequencies 500, 1000, and 1500 kHz were used, the amplitude of the signal increased, as the depth of the notch increased, but reduced linearly in accordance with the lift-off variation. In addition, the detection sensitivity of the weld defect was found to be closely related to the contact surface of the probe and specimen. In this paper, it was demonstrated that the detection sensitivity was excellent when the contact surface of the probe and the specimen was sufficient, but it was poor when the contact surface was insufficient.
