In this research by examining the influence that low quality aggregate has on the strength of concrete through testing, the lowering of strength according to use of low quality coarse aggregate was reviewed. The results showed that when using low quality coarse aggregate, due to the quality of aggregate a high volume of units was required, and this caused the compression strength to be lowered. In conclusion it was confirmed that if the low quality aggregate was used as is without mix correction this would lead to faulty construction and if the aggregate was corrected to about 60 kg/m3 mix correction, this would lead to an economically infeasible concrete mix.

The hydroacoustic surveys to provide the essential information for the assessment, management and utilization of fishery resources in the southern waters of Korea were carried out during five research cruises between October 1996 and October 1997 by the training ship KAYA of Pukyong National University. These hydroacoustic investigations were designed to obtain more precise estimates of the geographic distribution, absolute abundance and biological characteristics of the fishery resources, and the vertically integrated densities of fish in terms of volume backscattering strength(SV) by survey region and depth bins, such as the entire water column and the 0~ 10 m from bottom fraction, were measured separately. Hydroacoustic data were collected by using a Simrad EK 500 Scientific echo sounder operating at two frequencies of 38kHz and 120kHz and the data stored in field were later processed on a HP PC using a Simrad EP 500 echo integration and target strength analysis system. The biological compositions of echo signal were identified and sampled using a demersal trawl during daylight hours. The mean target strength to scale the echo integration data for hydroacoustic surveys was derived from the relationship between the SV and the weight of trawl catch per unit volume of the water column sampled by demersal trawls. The results obtained can be summarized as follow : 1. The mean volume backscattering strength for the entire water column in the southern waters of Korea between 1996 and 1997 were -67.2 dB and -70.9 dB at two frequencies of 38 kHz and 120 kHz , respectively, and for the bottom layer of the 0-10 m from bottom friction were -68.8 dB, -70.2 dB, respectively. That is, the volume backscattering strength for the entire water column at low frequency was higher than that at high frequency. 2. The relationship between the mean backscattering strength (〈SV〉, dB) for the depth strata of trawl hauls and the weight (C, kg/m3) per cubic meter of the catch sampled by bottom trawling in the southern waters of Korea in January and July 1997 were expressed by the following equations: 38 kHz : 〈SV〉= -28.2 + 10 log(C), 120 kHz : 〈SV〉= -32.4 + 10 log(C). The mean weight -normalized target strengths derived from these equitions were -28.2 dB/ kg, -32.4 dB/ kg at 38 kHz and 120 kHz , respectively. That is, the mean weight -normalized target strength at 38 kHz was 4.2 dB higher than that at 120 kHz. 3. The distribution density of fish in terms of biomass per unit volume in the southern waters of Korea were estimated to be 125.9 $\times$ 10-6 kg/m3 and 141.3 $\times$ 10-6 kg/m3 at 38 kHz and 120 kHz , respectively.

The purposes of this study are to investigate the material characteristics and strength properties of concrete mixed with waste incinerated bottom ash(BA), and to evaluate the leaching of environmentally harmful heavy metals from the bottom ash itself and from hardened concrete mixed with bottom ash. For this purpose, two reference mixes with W/C ratios of 0.45 and 0.55 were used, and the replacement proportion of BA was varied with the ratios of 0%, 30%, 50%, 70%, and 100% by volume of fine aggregate in the reference mixes. The variation of compressive and splitting tensile strength, workability and unit weight of concrete were considered. Test results showed that the strengths, workability and unit weight decreased with increase in proportion of BA replaced. Leaching test results showed that there would be no environmentally harmful problem from using BA as the substitutes of fine aggregates in concrete.

This study is intended to investigate application of mica waste(MS) to fine aggregate for mortar by comparing it with cement mortar in which crushed sand(CS) and river sand(NS) are used. According to the results, as the physical properties of aggregate, specific gravity is large in order of MS, NS and CS, absorption ratio in order of MS, CS and NS, and unit weight and solid volume percentage in order of NS, CS and MS. In the case of MS mortar, mechanical properties, drying shrinkage and heat conduction ratio are reduced, but the radiative amount of infrared light is excellent compared with NS mortar. Fluidity and unit weight of MS mortar is larger than those of CS mortar, and strength does not make differences. Length change by drying shrinkage is larger, but heat conduction ratio and radiative amount of infrared light are smaller than CS mortar. Thus, it proves that MS can be used in place of NS and CS, but its quality is deteriorated slightly.
In this study, physical properties of normal concrete, magnetite concrete, EAF concrete, and EAF concrete with added iron powder were evaluated and a feasibility of radiation shielding is also evaluated through irradiation tests against X-rays and gamma-rays. While the unit weight of EAF concrete (3.21 t/㎥) appeared lower than that of magnetite concrete (3.50 t/㎥), the results in compressive strength of EAF concrete were greater than those in magnetite and normal concrete. While the radiation transmission rate of normal concrete reaches 26.0% in the X-ray irradiation test, only 6.0% and 9.0% of transmission rate were observed in magnetite concrete and linear relationship with unit volume weight and radiation shielding. In the gamma-ray irradiation test, the performance of EAF and magnetite concretes appeared to be similar. Through the results on the excellent physical properties and radiation shielding performance a potential applicability of EAF concrete to radiation shielding was verified.

An AS/RS construction cost minimization model under throughput rate requirement constraint has been developed, whose objective function includes S/R machine cost, storage rack cost, and interrace conveyor cost. S/R machine cost is a function of the storage rack height, the unit load weight, and the control logic used by the system, while storage rack cost is a function of the storage rack height, the weight and the volume of the unit load. Since the model is a nonlinear integer programming problem which is very hard to solve exactly with large problem size, a solution procedure is developed to determine the height and the length of the storage rack with a fixed number of S/R machines, while increasing the number of S/R machines one by one to meet the throughput rate requirement.

Municipal and sanitary landfills can pose environmental problems due to leachate, landfill gas md unstable geotechnical properties. Most governmental bodies delay the correction of landfill problems or landfill replacement until a crises stage is reached. The replacement of a landfill is often made difficult due to costly regulatory controls, public opposition to siting and the high cost of closure for the previous landfill unit. Solutions to extending landfill life and capacity Involve waste minimization by recycling, refuse compaction and waste-to-energy incineration. Incineration can reduce the volume of refuse by 50-95%. The largest installed bases of municipal waste Incinerators are located in Japan and the U.S. The volume of waste contained in a landfill can be estimated by load count tabulations, weight-and-volume measurements or a material balance analysis based on the trash profile of user categories. for an existing landfill, core samples may be collected and analyzed for use in a material balance analysis. Newly generated refuse contains approximately 50% of the heating value of coal. However, landfill properties vary significantly due to the waste profile of the contributors and biodegradation due to time and weathering. The volume of the Nanji-do landfill

In the case of concrete recently manufactured with a concrete mixing truck, although aggregate and cement are used as the main ingredients, from a costs savings perspective, low quality aggregates are processed and used as concrete aggregate. In the case of these low quality aggregates, the unit volume and unit binder weights are increased for manufacturing, and due to this problems such as dry shrinking of the architecture and economic infeasibility have arisen. Therefore by changing the aggregate material and the unit binder weights that are currently being distributed, this research analyzes the influence on concrete.

The quantities of heavy weight waste glass have been progressively increased because of the rapid industrialization and the change of quality of life. And, the most of them are not recycled. The heavy weight waste glass have been treated by illegal dumping or being buried in landfills. Meanwhile, in order to ensure the safety of nuclear power plant structure, the excellent construction materials are socially required for shielding performance. Concrete is the most widely used construction material, the huge amounts of natural resources are required to make concrete. So, it is needed to investigate the possibility of recycling of heavy weight waste glass as concrete material ingredient. In this study, the heavy weight waste glass was evaluated for the applicability as fine aggregate of shielding concrete. From the results, when heavy weight waste glass was replaced as fine aggregate of mortar, shielding performance can be improved due to increasing in unit weight of mortar. It showed that the strength decreased according to mixing of heavy weight waste glass, Non-Washed heavy weight waste glass is more advantageous in the strength development than Washed case.

This study aims at calculating the exact soil conversion factor of cutting and banking areas of weathering rocks in large-scaled construction sites where land is being developed into home lots. For this, we have excavated the respective 20 sites of the cutting and banking areas in the said site and then calculated the volume after the excavation. As a result, the relative accuracy of the difference was calculated at 0.5% in average. We have calculated the exact soil conversion factor by the use of function ratio as per the wet unit weight and the indoor soil quality test as per volume calculated. And then we have found out minor differences as a result of the comparison and analysis with soil conversion factor determined by the dry unit weight test as per sand replacement method. This may be judged as a rational design method for the calculation of soil conversion factor, as well as high reliability of site test as a precision photogrammetry is adopted for volume measurement of the irregular excavating areas.
