Eating Attitudes, Weight Concerns, Dietary Intake, and Menstruation Among Korean Female Elite Athletes

  • To examine the eating attitudes, weight concerns, dietary intake, and menstrual function of Korean female elite athletes, 109 subjects in seven sports disciplines (rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming, badminton, volleyball, Taekwondo, field hockey, and soccer) responded to a questionnaire consisted of three parts; eating attitudes and behavior(Eating Attitude Test-26; EAT26), body weight perception (Body Dissatisfaction Index: BDI) and weight control behavior, and menstrual history and status. They also recorded three-day dietary intake. Body weight (43.6$\pm$4.3 kg) and body mass index (16.7$\pm$1.4 kg/$m^2$) in rhythmic gymnasts were lower than those in other athletes (P<0.05). EAT26 scores were not different among sport events (12.3$\pm$6.5 total), however, eating disturbances (EAT26 score$\geq$20) were highly prevalent in aesthetic athletes ($30\%$) than in others ($5\%$). More than half of the athletes perceived themselves overweight and four fifth of the athletes desired to reduce weight about 4.4 kg. The gymnasts consumed the lowest caloric intake (1028:t371) while the volleyball players did the highest (2995$\pm$342 kcal/d) (P<0.05). The BDI score was not different among sport events. Three fourth of the athletes experienced weight control, and the most frequently used weight reduction method was exercise followed by using robber suits, diet, and sauna. About $40\%$ of the subjects reported irregular menstrual cycles, but menstrual dysfunction ($\leq$6 menses/yr) was only $5\%$. Generally, the Korean female elite athletes desired to reduce weight from their current body weight. No differences in eating attitude and body dissatisfaction were noticed among athletic disciplines. However, eating disturbances were highly prevalent in aesthetic athletes who also reported much less energy intake than the recommend daily energy intake. It appeared that weight reduction methods were not properly practiced in these population. Menstrual dysfunction was minimally reported.

  • The four wing unmanned aerial vehicle owns the characteristics of small size, light weight, convenient operation and well stability. But it is easily disturbed by external environmental factors during flight with these disadvantages of short endurance and poor attitude solving ability. For solving these problems, a microprocessor based on STM32 chip is designed and the overall development is completed by the resources such as built-in timer and multi-function mode general-purpose input/output provided by the master micro controller unit, together with radio receiver, attitude meter, barometer, electronic speed control and other devices. The unmanned aerial vehicle can be remotely controlled and send radio waves to its corresponding receiver, control the analog level change of its corresponding channel pins. The master control chip can analyze and process the data to send multiple sets pulse signals of pulse width modulation to each electronic speed control. Then the electronic speed control will transform different pulse signals into different sizes of current value to drive the motor located in each direction of the frame to generate different rotational speed and generate lift force. To control the body of the unmanned aerial vehicle, so as to achieve the operator's requirements for attitude control, the PID controller based on Kalman filter is used to achieve quick response time and control accuracy. Test results show that the design is feasible.

무용전공자와 비전공자의 식생활태도, 영양지식, 영양상태 및 섭식특성 비교 (A Comparative Study on the Dietary Attitudes, Nutrition Knowledge, Nutrient Intake, Eating-Related Characteristics of Dancing Major and Non-major Female University Students)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the dietary attitudes, nutrition knowledge, nutrient intake, eating-related characteristics of dancing major and non-major female university students. The survey was conducted from October 1 to November 10, 2003 by questionnaires and data analyzed by SPSS program. The results are summarized as follows: 25.5% of the underweight group, 53.6% of the normal weight group, 12.5% of the overweight group and 66.7% of the obese group had correct perception about their body image. Eighty-one point three percent of the dancing majors and 77.2% of the non-majors were concerned about weight control, and 71.3% of the dancing majors and 64.5% of the non-majors had weight control experiences. There were no significant differences in nutrition knowledge scores and dietary attitude scores between dancing majors and non-majors. There were no significant differences in ‘predisposition to obesity scores’ between dancing majors and non-majors, and the scores were low. ‘Predisposition to anorexia’ scores and ‘uncontrollable urges to eat’ scores were significantly higher in the dancing majors compared to the non-majors. Intakes of the nutrients were lower than those of the Korean recommended dietary allowances (RDAs), except vitamin C in the dancing majors. Intakes of calories, calcium and iron were lower than those of the RDAs in the non-majors. Dietary attitude was positively correlated with nutrition knowledge but was negatively correlated with ‘uncont-rollable urges to eat’. In the dancing majors, ‘predisposition to obesity’ showed significantly positive correlation with obesity rate and ‘uncontrollable urges to eat’ and was negatively correlated with nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude. In the non-majors, obesity rate showed positive correlation with ‘predisposition to obesity’ and ‘uncontrollable urges to eat’. Therefore proper nutritional education program and recommended dietary allowances are required for dancing majors to improve their nutritional status.

초기 성인기 여성의 체중에 따른 주관적 체격인식과 생리지표 비교 (Comparison Study of Body Weight Perception and Physiological Index by Body Mass Index Level in Young Adult Women)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the characteristics of body weight perception and physiological index in young adult women. Methods: Subjects were 283 Korea women. Data was from the 2005 Korean National Health and Survey. Three groups-low normal and overweight-were based on Body mass index(BMI). General characteristics, health status perception, weight control behavior and physiological index such as BMI, total cholesterol, high-density cholesterol (HDL), low-density cholesterol (LDL), triglyceride, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and waist circumference were compared. Data were analyzed by t-test, $x^2$-test and ANOVA using SPSS program. Results: Of the normal weight group, 28.7% of subjects perceived themselves as overweight. Of the low weight group, 30.3% regarded their weight as normal weight. Of the overweight subjects, weight control was attempted by exercise (50.1%) and food reduction (77.1%). Significant group-related differences were evident in HDL, LDL, triglyceride, systolic blood pressure and waist circumference among three groups. Conclusions: Perception and attitude regarding body weight can be inaccurate. A weight control program should consider the relation of physiological index and weight based on BMI.

비만 초등학생의 토요 영양 교실의 운영 효과 평가 (Evaluation of Saturday Nutrition Classes for Obese Elementary Students in Chungnam Province)

  • This study was designed to evaluate Saturday nutrition classes for obese elementary students in Chungnam Province. Obesity index, nutrient intake, nutrition knowledge, nutrition attitude, and self-satisfaction of 36 obese elementary students were compared before and after attending nutrition classes every other Saturday for 3 months. The average age, height, weight, body fat, % body fat, and obesity index were 11.9 years, 145.5 cm, 53.3 kg, 24.5 kg, 45.7%, and 32.4%, respectively. Most of the subjects(94.5%) viewed themselves as fat. Sixty-three percent of children were discontent with their body-image. All answered that they have experience with weight control. The major methods of weight control were exercise and reduction of snacks. The mean serum cholesterol, blood glucose, GOT/GPT, and hemoglobin were 177.4 mg/dL, 90.4 mg/dL, 25.8/25.5 IU/L, 14.5 g/dL, respectively. After attending nutrition classes, the daily intakes of energy, plant protein, plant fat, carbohydrate, crude fiber, and cholesterol increased significantly. The scores for nutrition knowledge, nutrition attitude, and self-satisfaction also increased after nutrition classes, but there were no significant differences. Percent body fat decreased significantly after nutrition classes. In conclusion, nutrition education for elementary students is effective for the prevention and control of obesity. Further research is needed to develop a systematic program of nutrition education for obese children.

속초시 고등학생의 체중조절에 대한 태도와 식생활 항동에 관한 연구 (A Study on Weight Control Attitude and Food Behavior of High School Students in Sokcho)

  • 본 연구는 속초시에 소재한 남녀공학 고등학교 1학년 405명(남학생 197명, 여학생 208명)을 대상으로 외모에 대한 관심과 체중조절에 대한 태도, 식생활 행동에 대한 조사를 실시하였다. 대부분의 학생들은 외모에 관심이 많았으며, 체형에 대한 인식은 남녀간에 유의한 차이가 있었다(P<.001). 자신의 체형에 대한 만족도는 남학생의 22.8%가 만족한다고 한 반면 여학생은 9.6%만이 만족하는 것으로 조사되었다. 체중조절에 대한 관심도는 남학생의 43.7%, 여학생은 79.8%가 관심을 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 체중조절 관심도와 체형에 대한 인식과의 관련성은 남녀 모두 체중조절에 관심 있는 집단, 보통집단, 관심 없는 집단간에 유의한 차이(p<.001)를 보였다. 전체적으로는 체중조절에 관심 있는 집단의 학생들 41.3%가 자신의 체형이 약간 살찐 편이라고 인식하고 있었으며, 남학생의 경우 자신이 마른편이라고 생각하는 학생들도 체중조절에 관심이 많은 것으로 나타난 반면 자신이 말랐다고 생각하는 대부분의 여학생들은 대체적으로 체중조절에 관심이 없었다. 체형에 대한 만족도는 남녀 모두 체중 조절에 관심이 있는 집단. 보통집단. 관심이 없는 집단간에 유의한 차이(p<.001)를 나타냈다. 또한 조사대상자들의 아침식사는 매우 불규칙했으며, 저녁은 밥을 먹는다는 학생이 85.9%로 비교적 규칙적으로 식사를 하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 매 끼니의 결식률도 저녁이 가장 낮아서 한번도 거르지 않는다는 학생은 46.4%였다. 식사를 매일 거르는 경우가 가장 많은 식사는 아침으로 남학생 17.8%, 여학생 28.9%로 전체 23.5%의 학생이 매일 아침식사를 하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 결식이유는 아침식사의 경우 65.1%의 학생이 시간이 없어서이고, 귀찮아서 식사를 거른다는 경우는 점심식사(39.8%)와 저녁식사(31.3elo)에서 큰 비중을 차지했다. 체중을 줄이기 위해 식사를 거른다는 경우는 아침(1.3%)보다는 점심(7.0%)이, 점심보다는 저녁(13.8%)이 높았다. 이와 같은 연구를 통해서 고등학생 대상의 체중조절 관련영양교육에서는 우선 체형에 대한 올바른 인식을 심어주고, 체형 만족도를 높여주어야 하겠다. 또한 체중조절과 하루 세끼 균형잡힌 식사를 하는 것에 대한 중요성이 강조되는 영양교육과 구체적인 방안을 제시해야 할 것으로 사료된다.

무인 달착륙선의 동력하강단계에서 자세각속도 영향에 따른 최적화 착륙궤적 분석 (Analysis of Optimal Landing Trajectory in Attitude Angular Velocity Influence at Powered Descent Phase of Robotic Lunar Lander)

  • 이 논문에서는 무인 달착륙 임무를 위해 고려하고 있는 달착륙 시나리오를 제안하고 제안된 시나리오를 기반으로 동력하강단계에서의 최적화 착륙궤적을 구현한다. 동력하강단계에서 달착륙선의 자세 변화는 사용 연료량뿐만 아니라 영상기반 항법의 센서 운용에도 영향을 주므로 자세 변화가 급격하게 이루어지지 않도록 자세각속도를 최적제어 가격함수에 포함하고 이때 자세각속도의 영향을 조절하는 가중치가 최적화 착륙궤적에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 분석된 결과를 바탕으로 연료 사용을 최소화하고 안정된 자세 변화를 갖도록 최적화 착륙궤적을 설계할 수 있는 적절한 가중치를 제시한다.

대학생의 인식체형과 체격지수에 의한 비만도의 차이 및 체중조절 태도 (Objectivity of self-evaluated obesity and attitude toward weight control among college students)

  • The difference between self-evaluated obesity and obesity index of RBW and BMI as well as attitude toward weight control were studied among college students in Chungnam area. The subjects of 307 students were randomly selected and asked to categorize their body shape into 5 groups and to record their body weight and height. We found that average RBW and BMI of the students were 95.7% and 20.6, respectively. By RBW, 30.6% of students belonged to underweight and severe-underweight groups whereas 14.0% overweight and obesity ones. The female students showed lower obesity indice than the male. Self-evaluated obesity seemed likely to overestimate their body shapes above RBW and BMI, which lead to high unsatisfactioin toward their body shape. The overestimation was profound in normal weighted female students up to 20%. Misunderstanding about their obesity, especially among female college students, should be corrected necessarily by proper nutrition counseling and nutrition education, unless malnutrition could be serious in college students.

대구광역시 고등학생의 체중군에 따른 체형인식, 체중조절 태도와 자아 존중감의 비교 (Body Perception, Attitude on Weight-control and Self-Esteem according to the weight group of High School Students in Daegu)

  • 본 연구는 고등학교 남녀 학생들의 체중 군에 따른 체형 인식, 체중조절 태도와 자아 존중감을 조사하고 이들의 상관관계를 비교할 목적으로 1학년 학생 777명을 대상으로 2007년 8월 20일에서 2007년 9월 10일까지 조사를 실시하였다. 설문지로 조사 된 모든 자료는 SPSS 12.0 프로그램을 이용하여 통계 분석하였다. 주요 연구 결과를 요약하면, 여학생은 남학생에 비해 체중조절에 관심이 많아-특히 비만군- 고등학교 시절에 주로 체중을 줄이기 위해 체중조절을 하며 자신의 체중을 더 바르게 인식하고 있었다. 또 영양지식이 많고 주로 음식물 섭취를 줄이는 방법으로 자신감 향상을 위해 체중조절을 하였다. 정상체중군 다음으로 여학생 비만군의 자아 존중감이 높았던 결과에 대해서는 보다 다양한 연구가 필요한 것으로 판단된다. 남학생은 주로 운동을 통하여 체중조절을 하며 여학생보다 체중조절 결과에 더 만족하고 자아 존중감도 높았다. 체형에 대한 기준 형성에 남학생은 친구, 여학생은 TV의 영향을 가장 많이 받았다. 남학생은 BMI가 낮고 현재체중과 이상체중의 차가 적을수록, 체중조절 결과에 대한 만족도가 클수록, 신체활동을 선호하며 20분 이상 지속적인 신체활동을 많이 할수록 자아 존중감이 높고 여학생은 BMI가 낮고 체중조절 결과에 대해 만족할수록, 식습관과 영양지식이 좋고 많을수록 자아 존중감이 높았다. 체중군 별로는 남학생의 경우 저체중군은 신체활동을 좋아하거나 20분 이상 지속적인 신체활동이 많을수록, 정상체중군 과체중군은 체중조절 결과에 대해 만족 할수록, 비만군은 식습관이 좋을수록 자아 존중감이 높았다. 여학생의 경우 정상체중군은 체중조절 결과에 대해 만족하고 식습관과 영양지식이 좋고 높을수록, 과체중군은 신체활동을 좋아할수록, 비만군은 체중조절에 대한 관심이 많을수록 자아 존중감이 높았다. 특히 여학생 비만군에 있어 체중조절에 대한 관심이 많으면 자아 존중감이 높은 것으로 높은 상관관계를 보였다.

전남지역 성인들의 음식 몰입이 채소 소비에 미치는 간접효과의 분석 (Analyzing the Indirect Effect of Food Involvement on Vegetable Consumption among Adults in Jeonnam Area)

  • The purpose of this study was to measuring the causal relationships among food involvement, health, mood, convenience, sensory appeal, weight control and vegetable consumption. A total of 290 questionnaires were completed. Structural equation model was used to measure the causal relationships among constructs. Results of the study demonstrated that the structural analysis result for the data also indicated excellent model fit. The effects of food involvement on health, mood, convenience, sensory appeal, weight control and vegetable consumption were statistically significant. As expected, health, mood, sensory appeal and eight control had significant effects on vegetable consumption. Moreover, health, mood, convenience, sensory appeal and weight control played mediating roles in the relationship between food involvement and vegetable consumption. In conclusion, based on structural analysis, a model was proposed of interrelations among food involvement, health, mood, convenience, sensory appeal, weight control and vegetable consumption. It should be noted that the original vegetable consumption model was modified and should, preferably, be alidated in future research. Other variables, such as attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavior control, may be incorporated to form vegetable consumption models that consist of new antecedent and consequence pairs.
