  • The relational database system on fatigue strength was constructed, and the properties of fatigue life distribution were examined to analyze reliability and safety of metallic materials. Data manipulations were efficiently performed in relational fatigue strength database system using dependency diagram. Regardless of the distribution of fatigue strength, the proposed method, the Robust method and the complementary error function method using probability distribution, successfully estimated parameters of the 3-parameter Weibull distribution. The proposed criterion for estimating non-failure probability showed good results regardless of censoring time. The fatigue life distribution function described as a function of parameters of the Weibull distribution and applied stress ratio produced P-S-N characteristics reasonably.

  • This paper discusses condition based preventive replacement for deteriorating systems. The system continuouslydeteriorates in time and fails at any deterioration level which is always monitored, It is replaced at failure or atsome deteriorated level preventively before failure. The deterioration process is represented by a Weibulldistribution with a time-linear scale parameter. The cost rate function is formed considering replacement costand opportunity loss cost and deterioration dependent failure distribution, If the system has an increasingdeterioration dependent failure rate, the optimal deterioration level for preventive replacement can be determinedfrom minimizing the cost rate. An illustrative example is given for a Weibull deterioration dependent failuredistribution.

  • Using statistical methods a change-point analysis of oil supply disruption is conducted. The statistical distribution of oil supply disruption is a weibull distribution. The detection of the change-point is applied to Bayesian method and weibull parameters are estimated through Markov chain monte carlo and parameter approach. The statistical approaches to the estimation for the change-point and weibull parameters is implemented with the sets of simulated and real data with small sizes of samples.

  • Parent wind data are often acknowledged to fit a Weibull probability distribution, implying that wind epoch maxima should fall into the domain of attraction of the Gumbel (Type I) extreme value distribution. However, observations of wind epoch maxima are not fitted well by this distribution and a Generalised Extreme Value (GEV) analysis leading to a Type III fit empirically appears to be better. Thus there is an apparent paradox. The reasons why advocates of the GEV approach seem to prefer it are briefly summarised. This paper gives a detailed analysis of the errors involved when the GEV is fitted to epoch maxima of Weibull origin. It is shown that the results in terms of the shape parameter are an artefact of these errors. The errors are unavoidable with the present sample sizes. If proper significance tests are applied, then the null hypothesis of a Type I fit, as predicted by theory, will almost always be retained. The GEV leads to an unacceptable ambiguity in defining design loads. For these reasons, it is concluded that the GEV approach does not seem to be a sensible option.

  • For the three parameter Weibull distribution, the parameter estimation techniques are applied and the asymptotic variances of the quantile to obtain the confidence limits for a given return period are derived. Three estimation techniques are used for these purposes: the methods of moments, maximum likelihood and probability weighted moments. The three parameter Weibull distribution as a flood frequency model is applied to actual flood data.

  • This study is test for STS304 specimen using bending and torsion state. Rounded specimen and notched specimen including fracture surface investigation was comparatively experimented, fatigue life according to degree of surface finishing was examined. Fatigue fracture probability of notched canilever specimens were predicted by P-S-N curve, median rank and Weibull distribution. And at the relation with the rotational speed and stress, the fatigue life of the test specimen was higher at high speed than low speed If summarize STS304 torsion result of fatigue test, is as following. Fatigue life prediction was available by Weibull statistics distribution, and 50% breakdown probability correlation equation was appeared as following.

  • In the case of the remediation studies, push pull test is a more time and cost effective mettled than multi-well tracer test. It also gives Just as much or more information than the traditionally used methods. But the data analysis for the hydraulic parameters, there have been some defections such as underestimation of dispersivity, requirement for effective porosity, and calculation of recovery of center of mass to estimate linear velocity. In this research, Weibull distribution function is proposed to estimate the center of mass of breakthrough curve for Push pull test. The hydraulic parameter estimation using Weibull function showed more exact values of center of mass than those of exponential regression for field test data.

  • This paper presents a reliability analysis of S-bonds for AF track circuits, which detect train movement and transmit a speed control signal to the train. Field survey shows that S-bonds are exposed to very large vibrations transferred from rail, and suffer from frequent failures when they were installed on ballasted track. We collected the time-to-failure data of S-bonds from the maintenance field of Seoul metro line 2, and made a parametric approach to estimate the statistical distribution that fits the time-to-failure data. The analysis shows that S-bonds have time-to-failure characteristics described by Weibull distribution. The estimated shape parameter of Weibull distribution is 1.1, which means the distribution has constant failure rate characteristics like exponential distribution. The reliability function, hazard function, percentiles and mean lifetime are derived for maintenance support.

  • In this paper, we consider two components system which the lifetimes have a bivariate weibull distribution with random censored data. Here the censoring time is independent of the lifetimes of the components. We construct large sample tests for independence and symmetry between two-components based on maximum likelihood estimators and the natural estimators. Also we present a numerical study.

  • This paper deals with a test procedures on reliablity using hybrid censoring when failure time follows two parameter Weibull distribution. In each case of single and two stage test with hybrid censoring, we construct a operating characteristic curve, and then obtain the censoring number and sample size which the producer's risk and the consumer's risk are both satisfied. This study suggests to determine the expected waiting time at a decision.
