어깨의 움직임을 중심으로 한 상지재활로봇 NREX의 착용감 개선 (Improved Wearability of the Upper Limb Rehabilitation Robot NREX with respect to Shoulder Motion)

  • NREX, an upper limb exoskeleton robot, was developed at the National Rehabilitation Center to assist in the upper limb movements of subjects with weak muscular strength and control ability of the upper limbs, such as those with hemiplegia. For the free movement of the shoulder of the existing NREX, three passive joints were added, which improved its wearability. For the flexion/extension movement and internal/external rotation movement of the shoulder of the robot, the ball lock pin is used to fix or rotate the passive joint. The force and torque between a human and a robot were measured and analyzed in a reaching movement for four targets using a six-axis force/torque sensor for 20 able-bodied subjects. The addition of two passive joints to allow the user to rotate the shoulder can confirm that the average force of the upper limb must be 31.6% less and the torque must be 48.9% less to perform the movement related to the axis of rotation.

Initiation and propagation of a crack in the orthopedic cement of a THR using XFEM

  • The sealing cement of total hip arthroplasty is the most widely used binder in orthopedic surgery for anchoring implants to their recipient bones. Nevertheless, this latter remains a fragile material with weak mechanical properties. Inside this material cracks initiate from cavities. These cracks propagate under the effect of fatigue and lead to the failure of this binder and consequently the loosening of the prosthesis. In this context, this work consists to predict the position of cracks initiation and their propagations path using the Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM). The results show that cracks can only be initiated from a sharp edges of an ellipsoidal cavity which the ratio of the minor axis over the major axis is equal to 0.1. A maximum crack length of 19 ?m found for a cavity situated in the proximal zone position under a static loading. All cracks propagate in same(almost) way regardless of the cavity(site of initiation) position and its inclination in the proximal zone.

  • 차량이 주행 중에 그리고 항공기가 활주로에 착륙하는 순간과 활주 중에 발생하는 피로는 착륙장치, 기체와 차량의 현가장치 등에 수명 주기와 밀접한 관련이 있다. 휠에 작용하는 하중들은 종축 힘, 횡력, 수직력과 제동력이다. 차량의 동특성과 내구성을 연구하기 위해 본 논문의 시뮬레이터는 시험실에서 실제 노면 형상을 재현에 사용된다. 그러므로 제품 개발 시간과 비용을 절감할 수 있다. 하드웨어적으로 유압 피로 시뮬레이터 구조의 중요한 요소는 각 축을 분리하고 여러 하중과 진동을 견뎌내는 것이다. 본 논문의 역기구학적 해석 방법은 Dummy wheel 중심에서 축 방향으로 최대 동작 변위를 준 후 커플링에 의한 유압 서보 작동기의 작동 크기를 도출한다. 해석의 결과는 실제 노면 형상을 정확하게 재현하기 위해 축 간의 커플링이 미약함을 확인하는 것이다.

Magnetic Orientations of Bull Sperm Separated into Head and Flagellum Treated by DTT or Heparin

  • This paper describes the magnetic orientation of bull sperm separated into the head and the flagellum treated by DTT or heparin in a 5,400G static field. Semen samples collected from four bulls (Japanese Black) were mixed to the same sperm density. One percentage triton X-100 was used to extract the plasma membrane. The intact and demembranated sperm suspensions were treated with 20, 200, 2,000 mM DTT, 100, 1,000 or 10,000 units heparin solutions at $4^{\circ}C$ for 6 days. The decondensation of the sperm nuclei treated by DTT or heparin was examined by measuring the head area at 1, 3 and 6 days. After measuring the area, each sample was exposed to a 5,400G static magnetic field generated by Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets for 24 hours at room temperature. Results showed that the sperms were separated into the head and the flagellum through the DTT treatment. Almost of the separated heads showed that their long axis oriented perpendicularly to the magnetic lines of force, and most of the long axis perpendicularly oriented heads showed that their flat plane oriented perpendicularly in a 5,400G magnetic field. Also, the demembranation of the head tended to increase those perpendicular orientations, while those perpendicular orientations of the head declined with the decondensation of the sperm nuclei. These findings suggest that strong magnetic anisotropy for the perpendicular orientation of the long axis and the flat plane of the head occurs in the sperm nuclei in a 5,400G magnetic field. The separated flagellum showed lower parallel orientation, and the separated and demembranated flagellum showed parallel orientation to the magnetic lines of force in this magnetic field. These findings suggest that weak magnetic anisotropy of the parallel orientation of the flagellum occurs in the inside components in a 5,400G field.

차선관련 파라미터의 대칭성과 선형회귀에 기반한 차선이탈 인식 (A Lane-Departure Identification Based on Linear Regression and Symmetry of Lane-Related Parameters)

  • This paper presents a lane-departure identification (LDI) algorithm for a traveling vehicle on a structured road. The algorithm makes up for the weak points of the former method based on EDF[1] by introducing a Lane Boundary Pixel Extractor (LBPE), the well known Hough transform, and liner regression. As a filter to extract pixels expected to be on lane boundaries, the LBPE plays an important role in enhancing the robustness of LDI. Utilizing the pixels from the LBPE the Hough transform provides the lane-related parameters composed of orientation and distance, which are used in the LDI. The proposed LDI is based on the fact the lane-related parameters of left and right lane boundaries are symmetrical as for as the optical axis of a camera mounted on a vehicle is coincident with the center of lane; as the axis deviates from the center of lane, the symmetrical property is correspondingly lessened. In addition, the LDI exploits a linear regression of the lane-related parameters of a series of successive images. It plays the key role of determining the trend of a vehicle's traveling direction and minimizing the noise effect. Except for the two lane-related parameters, the proposed algorithm does not use other information such as lane width, a curvature, time to lane crossing, and of feet between the center of a lane and the optical axis of a camera. The system performed successfully under various degrees of illumination and on various road types.

Confocal off-axis optical system with freeform mirror, application to Photon Simulator (PhoSim)

  • MESSIER is a science satellite project to observe the Low Surface Brightness (LSB) sky at UV and optical wavelengths. The wide-field, optical system of MESSIER is optimized minimizing optical aberrations through the use of a Linear Astigmatism Free - Three Mirror System (LAF-TMS) combined with freeform mirrors. One of the key factors in observations of the LSB is the shape and spatial variability of the Point Spread Function (PSF) produced by scatterings and diffraction effects within the optical system and beyond (baffle). To assess the various factors affecting the PSF in this design, we use PhoSim, the Photon simulator, which is a fast photon Monte Carlo code designed to include all these effects, and also atmospheric effects (for ground-based telescopes) and phenomena occurring inside of the sensor. PhoSim provides very realistic simulations results and is suitable for simulations of very weak signals. Before the application to the MESSIER optics system, PhoSim had not been validated for confocal off-axis reflective optics (LAF-TMS). As a verification study for the LAF-TMS design, we apply Phosim sequentially. First, we use a single parabolic mirror system and compare the PSF results of the central field with the results from Zemax, CODE V, and the theoretical Airy pattern. We then test a confocal off-axis Cassegrain system and check PhoSim through cross-validation with CODE V. At the same time, we describe the shapes of the freeform mirrors with XY and Zernike polynomials. Finally, we will analyze the LAF-TMS design for the MESSIER optical system.

곡관으로부터 방출되는 펄스파에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study of the Impulsive Wave Discharged from a Curved Duct)

  • This study depicts an experimental work of the impulsive wave discharged from the open end of several kinds of right-angle bend pipes, which are attached to the open end of a simple shock tube. The weak normal shock wave with its magnitude of Mach number from 1.03 to 1.20 is employed to obtain the impulsive wave propagating outside the open end of the bend pipes. The experimental data of the magnitude of the impulsive wave and its propagation directivity are analyzed to characterize the impulsive waves discharged from the right-angle bend pipes and compared with those from a straight pipe. The results obtained show that a right-angle miter bend considerably reduces the magnitude of the impulsive wave and its directivity toward to the pipe axis, compared with the straight pipe. It is believed that the right angle miter bend pipe can playa role of passive control against the impulsive wave.

  • Recent days composite bridge deck is gaining attraction due to many advantages such as light weight, high strength, corrosion resistance, and high durability. In this study, composite sandwich deck models of hat, box, and triangular section type were fabricated by VARTM process. For those models, three point flexural test was carried out both in strong and weak axis. The experimental results are compared with each other to determine efficient section type. Also finite element analysis was performed to verify analysis model. It is demonstrated that the results of numerical analysis agree well with experimental results.

  • The notable feature of the Cu(II) coordination polymer investigated here is its ability to self-assemble into a double-stranded helical structure with regular grooves along the helical axis, through the combination of metal-chloride dimeric interactions and repulsive interactions, as an organizing force. It is also remarkable that the double-stranded helices self-organize into a 2-D columnar structure in both the bulk state and aqueous solution. These results represent a unique example that weak metal-ligand bridging interactions can provide a useful strategy to construct stable double-stranded helical nanotubes.

  • In this study for the development of a 3D pattern mill, we designed its layout which has high stiffness and low-weight structure. We calculated the load of each axis component when 3D pattern mill is under the worst cutting conditions. On base of the calculations, we determined the size of its structure and selected main components of the machine. Also, using FEM we analyzed the layout design of 3D pattern mill to reduce the wcight of structure and increase stiffness of it. According to the load position and direction, shapes and values of the deformation and the stress distributions are calculated, also we calculated the natural frequencies and mode shapes in order ta modify and redesign the weak parts
