  • An algorithm for fault detection and classification method for wide-area protection in Korean transmission systems is proposed. The modeling of 345-kV and 765-kV Korean power system transmission networks using the Electro Magnetic Transient Program - Restructured Version (EMTP-RV) is presented and the algorithm for fault detection and classification in transmission lines is developed. The proposed algorithm uses the Wavelet Transform (WT) and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). The Singular value of Approximation coefficient (SA) and part Sum of Detail coefficient (SD) are introduced. The characteristics of the SA and SD at the fault conditions are analyzed and used in the algorithm for fault detection and classification. The validation of the proposed algorithm is verified by various simulation results.

  • This paper aims to present a supervised classification algorithm based on data fusion for the segmentation of the textured images. The feature extraction method we used is based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT). In the segmentation stage, the estimated feature vector of each pixel is sent to the support vector machine (SVM) classifier for initial labeling. To obtain a more accurate segmentation result, two strategies based on information fusion were used. We first integrated decision-level fusion strategies by combining decisions made by the SVM classifier within a sliding window. In the second strategy, the fuzzy set theory and rules based on probability theory were used to combine the scores obtained by SVM over a sliding window. Finally, the performance of the proposed segmentation algorithm was demonstrated on a variety of synthetic and real images and showed that the proposed data fusion method improved the classification accuracy compared to applying a SVM classifier. The results revealed that the overall accuracies of SVM classification of textured images is 88%, while our fusion methodology obtained an accuracy of up to 96%, depending on the size of the data base.

  • The 3D DWT(The Three Dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform) scheme is potentially regarded as useful one on analyzing both spatial and spectral information. Nevertheless, few researchers have attempted to process or classified remotely sensed images using the 3D DWT. This study aims to apply the 3D DWT to the land cover classification of optical and SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) images. Then, their results are evaluated quantitatively and compared with the results of traditional classification technique. As the experimental results, the 3D DWT shows superior classification results to conventional techniques, especially dealing with the high-resolution imagery and SAR imagery. It is thought that the 3D DWT scheme can be extended to multi-temporal or multi-sensor image classification.

  • This paper presents a wavelet and neural network based technology for the monitoring and classification of various types of power quality (PQ) disturbances. Simultaneous and automatic detection and classification of PQ transients, is recommended, however these processes have not been thoroughly investigated so far. In this paper, the hardware and software of a power quality data acquisition system (PQDAS) is described. In this system, an auto-classifying system combines the properties of the wavelet transform with the advantages of a neural network. Additionally, to improve recognition rate, extraction technology is considered.

  • Pattern classification of single and multiple discharge sources was applied using a wavelet image signal method in which a feature extraction was applied using a hidden sub-image. A feature extracting method that used vertical and horizontal images using an MSD method was applied to an averaging process for the scale of pulses for the phase. A feature extracting process for the preprocessing of the input of a neural network was performed using an inverse transformation of the horizontal, vertical, and diagonal sub-images. A back propagation algorithm in a neural network was used to classify defective signals. An algorithm for wavelet image processing was developed. In addition, the defective signal was classified using the extracted value that was quantified for the input of a neural network.

  • This paper proposes a condition classification system using wavelet transform, feature evaluation and artificial neural networks to detect faulty products on the production line of reciprocating compressors for refrigerators. The stationary features of vibration signals are extracted from statistical cumulants of the discrete wavelet coefficients and root mean square values of band-pass frequencies. The neural networks are trained by the sample data, including healthy or faulty compressors. Based on training, the proposed system can be used on the automatic mass production line to classify product quality instead of people inspection. The validity of this system is demonstrated by the on-site test at LG Electronics, Inc. for reciprocating compressors. According to different products, this system after some modification may be useful to increase productivity in different types of production lines.

  • In inverse acoustic problem with nearfield sources, it is important to separate multiple acoustic sources and to measure the position of each target. This paper proposes a new algorithm by applying MUSIC(Multiple Signal Classification) to the outputs of discrete wavelet transformation with sub-band selection based on the entropy threshold, Some numerical experiments show that the proposed method can estimate the more precise positions than a conventional MUSIC algorithm under moderately correlated signal and relatively low signal-to-noise ratio case.

  • A novel damage classification method based on wavelet packet transform and statistical analysis is developed in this study for structural health monitoring. The response signal of a structure under an impact load is normalized and then decomposed into wavelet packet components. Energies of these wavelet packet components are then calculated to obtain the energy distribution. Statistical similarity comparison based on an F-test is used to classify the structure from changes in the wavelet packet energy distribution. A statistical indicator is developed to describe the damage extent of the structure. This approach is applied to the test results from simply supported reinforced concrete beams in the laboratory. Cases with single and two damages are created from static loading, and accelerations of the structure from under impact loads are analyzed. Results show that the method can be used with no reference baseline measurement and model for the damage monitoring and assessment of the structure with alarms at a specified significance level.

  • This work continues a trend of developments aimed at exploiting the physical layer of the open systems interconnection (OSI) model to enhance wireless network security. The goal is to augment activity occurring across other OSI layers and provide improved safeguards against unauthorized access. Relative to intrusion detection and anti-spoofing, this paper provides details for a proof-of-concept investigation involving "air monitor" applications where physical equipment constraints are not overly restrictive. In this case, RF fingerprinting is emerging as a viable security measure for providing device-specific identification (manufacturer, model, and/or serial number). RF fingerprint features can be extracted from various regions of collected bursts, the detection of which has been extensively researched. Given reliable burst detection, the near-term challenge is to find robust fingerprint features to improve device distinguishability. This is addressed here using wavelet domain (WD) RF fingerprinting based on dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DT-$\mathbb{C}WT$) features extracted from the non-transient preamble response of OFDM-based 802.11a signals. Intra-manufacturer classification performance is evaluated using four like-model Cisco devices with dissimilar serial numbers. WD fingerprinting effectiveness is demonstrated using Fisher-based multiple discriminant analysis (MDA) with maximum likelihood (ML) classification. The effects of varying channel SNR, burst detection error and dissimilar SNRs for MDA/ML training and classification are considered. Relative to time domain (TD) RF fingerprinting, WD fingerprinting with DT-$\mathbb{C}WT$ features emerged as the superior alternative for all scenarios at SNRs below 20 dB while achieving performance gains of up to 8 dB at 80% classification accuracy.
