In this study, the quantitative analysis and pattern analysis of the error bounds with respect to recording period were carried out using the wave climate data from coastal areas. Arbitrary recording periods were randomly sampled from one month to six years using the bootstrap method. Based on the analysis, for recording periods less than one year, it was found that the error bounds decreased rapidly as the recording period increased. Meanwhile, the error bounds were found to decrease more slowly for recording periods longer than one year. Assuming the absolute estimate error to be around 10% (${\pm}0.1m$) for an one meter significant wave height condition, the minimum recording period for reaching the estimate error for Sokcho and Geoje-Hongdo stations satisfied this condition with over two years of data, while Anmado station was found to satisfy this condition when using observational data of over three years. The confidence intervals of the significant wave height clearly show an increasing pattern when the percentile value of the wave height increases. Whereas, the confidence intervals of the mean wave period are nearly constant, at around 0.5 seconds except for the tail regions, i.e., 2.5- and 97.5-percentile values. The error bounds for 97.5-percentile values of the wave height necessary for harbor tranquility analysis were found to be 0.75 m, 0.5 m, and 1.2 m in Sokcho, Geoje-Hongdo, and Anmado, respectively.

Recently, the frequency and intensity of heat waves due to the increase in climate change temperature are increasing. Therefore, this study tried to compare the evaluation process and evaluation results of the heat wave disaster evaluation, which is the government's analysis of the heat wave disaster vulnerability and the risk evaluation method recently emphasized by the IPCC. The analysis of climate change disaster vulnerability is evaluated based on manuals and guidelines prepared by the government. Risk evaluation can be evaluated as the product of the possibility of a disaster and its impact, and it is evaluated using the Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation based on Bayesian estimation method, which uses prior information to infer posterior probability. As a result of the analysis, the two evaluation results for Busan Metropolitan City differed slightly in the spatial distribution of areas vulnerable to heat waves. In order to properly evaluate disaster vulnerable areas due to climate change, the process and results of climate change disaster vulnerability analysis and risk assessment must be reviewed, and consider each methodology and countermeasures must be prepared.
The frequency and intensity of abnormal climate caused by climate change is increasing in Korea. Also, the amount of damage from disaster is increasing rapidly. The research on vulnerability assessment analyzes environmentally, socially and economically vulnerable indicators and is ongoing to reduce the intensity of damage and establish adaptation policies for climate change. Therefore, in this study, we assessed vulnerability using weighting value derived by the regression equation. There are 3 evaluation items : vulnerability assessment for farmland erosion to flood, vulnerability assessment for health to heat wave, vulnerability assessment for forest fire to drought. For this study, indicators for each sectors were selected and spatial data for each sectors were established using GIS program. Results showed that vulnerability to heat wave was more affected by climate factors. On the other hand, vulnerability to flood and drought was more affected by social-economic factors. Then, to analysis efficiency of the regression analysis, vulnerability result was compared between the existing vulnerability research with no weighting applied and the vulnerability research with the influence of weighting value derived by the regression. This study showed that the regression analysis is efficient to provide practical and feasible alternatives in terms of planning climate change adaptation policies and it is expected to be utilized for vulnerability assessment in the future.

Korea is surrounded by the West Sea, the South Sea, and the East Sea. There are various points at which large and small rivers flow into the sea, and areas where these rivers meet the coast are vulnerable to disasters. Thus, it is necessary to study disaster prevention techniques based on coastal characteristics and the pattern of disasters. In this study, we analyzed the risk factors of disaster districts analyzed in comprehensive plans for the reduction of damage to coastal cities from storms and floods. As a result of standardization, four factors (tide level, intensive rainfall & typhoon, wave, and tsunami) were identified. Intensive rainfall & typhoon occurred along the West Sea, the South Sea, and the East Sea coast. Factors that should be considered to influence disasters are tide level for the West Sea, tsunami and tide level for the South Sea, and wave in the East Sea. In addition, disaster prevention techniques to address these factors are presented, focusing on domestic and overseas cases.
Subsurface pressure gauge has many advantages in measuring a wide range of wave spectra in coastal waters from wind waves to long waves. However, a shortcoming of the gauge is related to the difficulties in recovering surface wave spectra from subsurface pressure records. In this study, the effect of current on the pressure transfer function of the pressure gauge, and hence on the surface wave energy spectrum, was investigated by analyzing the subsurface pressure data based on the linear wave theory. For this purpose, laboratory experiments were carried out in a wave-current flume. Subsurface pressure records, as well as the surface elevation data, were obtained simultaneously under different wave and current conditions. Pressure transfer functions were obtained and compared with those estimated from the linear wave theory, both with and without inclusion of the current-effect. It was established that wave spectra obtained from subsurface pressure gauge were in closer agreement with those from surface wave gauge when current-effect on the pressure transfer function was taken into consideration for analysis.
This study aims to examine the impacts of built environmental features on the nocturnal and diurnal temperatures during the heat wave season in Gwangju, Korea. Built environmental measures are summarized at micro-scale level, such as 50 meters and 100 meters from temperature monitoring spots. Regressing the built environment on nocturnal and diurnal temperatures, we estimate how the artificial constructs contribute to temperature either day and night times. We found that impervious surface ratio is positively and negatively associated with nocturnal and diurnal temperatures, respectively. Buildings and structures tend to construct high thermal mass and absorb heat during day time and emit it for the night time. This property contributes to the nocturnal temperature model. On the other hand, urban areas with more vertical structure tend to block sun radiation more than rural, and it is more likely to find the negative relationship between impervious surface ratio and the diurnal temperatures.

In this paper, the assessment items were selected for water by drought, water quality by drought, and thermal diseases by heat wave. We described the selection background for these assessment items. and then we weighted the selected vulnerability assessment items. The vulnerability assessment procedures also describe the calculation methods applied in phases and the actual cases. The vulnerability assessment database was analyzed and a climate change vulnerability assessment system for heat waves and droughts using these vulnerability assessment procedures was designed.
Various typhoon data near Yongil Bay, Korea from 1961 to 1985 were collected with some critria and analyzed with the help of the computer. Introducing the pressure profile models and predicting the typhoon wind and wave fields, the 100-year design wave parameters were calculated. Additionally, the wave data at the southeast coast of Korea were statistically analyzed. The deep water wave climate of this bay indicated that Typhoon Brenda, 1985 had wave characteristics of 100-year return period, Typhoon model and storm surge model studies were made for this typhoon. These, including other design parameters, were introduced into the calculation of total design water depth.

The drought is one of the extreme natural disasters observed in any climate zone and it is due to the deficiency in moisture. The flash drought is identified recently as a subdivision of drought and it is an extreme event distinguished by sudden onset and rapid intensification of drought conditions with severe impacts. The main cause for the flash drought is coupled situation due to precipitation deficit and high evapotranspiration. Hence, heat waves plays major role in identification of flash drought. Therefore, this study focused on identifying changes in distribution of heat waves for Korean Peninsula. The daily maximum and minimum temperature data were used in this study. The heat wave, heat wave intensity and heat wave intensity index were derived. The results of the study would be an input for the future studies on identification of flash drought in Korean Peninsula.
