  • The recent rainfall has happened to exceed the design rainfall after 1990 often, due to the characteristic of the rain to be changed. So, it is failing the ability safety of flood defense equipments to exist. This study analyzed the rainfall of Busan in 2003 since 1961 through the FARD2002(Frequency Analysis of Rainfall Duration). The result is equal to the thing which the design rainfall increased a little since 1991. The change of design rainfall created the result to be a flood discharge increase. This study investigated about the impact to influence on the river bank according to the change of flood discharge, the rainfall pattern change as well. This study used the program of HEC-RAS with HEC-HMS and calculated flood discharge with flood level of river. The result is equal to the thing which the computation became a flood level which exceed 50year(River design criteria-Korea water resources association 2002) criteria with 30year(River establishment criteria-Ministry of construction & transportation 1993), because of an area of impermeability increased of model basin.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of greenhouse cultivation area and groundwater level changes due to the water curtain cultivation in the greenhouse complexes, which are mainly situated along rivers where water resources are easy to secure. The groundwater observation network in Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do, located downstream of the Nakdong River, was selected for the study area. We classified the groundwater monitoring well into the greenhouse (riverside) and field cultivation areas (plain and mountain) to compare the groundwater impact of water curtain cultivation in the greenhouse complex. The characteristics of groundwater level changes classified by terrain type were analyzed using the observed data. Riverside wells have significant permeability coefficients and are close to rivers, so they are greatly affected by river flow and precipitation changes so that water level shows a specific pattern of annual changes. Most plain wells do not show a constant annual change, but observation wells near small rivers and small-scale greenhouse cultivation areas sometimes show annual and daily changes in which the water level drops during winter. Compared to other observation wells, mountain wells do not show significant yearly changes in water level and show general characteristics of bedrock aquifer well with a low permeability coefficient.

  • The Vietnamese Mekong Delta(VMD) covers an area of 62,250 km2 in the lowest basin of the Mekong Delta where more than half of the country's total rice production takes place. In 2016, an estimated 1.29 million tonnes of Vietnam's rice were lost to the country's biggest drought in 90 year and particularly in VMD, at least 221,000 hectares of rice paddies were hit by the drought and related saltwater intrusion from the South China Sea. In this study, 3D numerical simulations using Delft3D hydrodynamic models with calibration and validation process were performed to examine flow characteristics, climate change scenarios, water level changes, and salinity concentrations in the nine major estuaries and coastal zones of VMD during the 21st century. The river flows and their interactions with ocean currents were modeled by Delft3D and since the water levels and saltwater intrusion in the area are sensitive to the climate conditions and upstream dam operations, the hydrodynamic models considered discharges from the dams and climate data provided by the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6). The models were calibrated and verified using observational water levels, salinity distribution, and climate change data and scenarios. The results agreed well with the observed data during calibration and validation periods. The calibrated models will be used to make predictions about the future salinity intrusion events, focusing on the impacts of sea level rise due to global warming and weather elements.

  • This study assessed the reliability of the agricultural water supply based on future climate change scenarios, and suggested plans to improve the reliability in order to promote the adaptability of irrigation water in agricultural reservoirs to climate change. The assessment of agricultural water supply reliability was performed on reservoirs which had a lower water quantity than their design basis and which had recently been subject to drought. In other words, from the irrigation districts of main intake works among the reservoirs managed by the Korea Rural Community Corporation, 1~2 districts in each province-that is, a total of 13 districts -that were recently designated as a district for securing agricultural water (drought prevention district) were selected. Climate change scenarios were applied to the selected districts to analyze their future water supply reliability compared to the current level. All districts selected showed a drought frequency of 4 years or shorter, which demonstrated the need to establish climate change response plans. As plans for responding to climate change, a plan that utilizes supplemental intake works to reduce the area of the irrigation districts of main intake works, and another one that increases the capacity of main intake works were adopted to reanalyze their water supply reliability. When the area of the irrigation districts of main intake works was reduced by about 30~40%, the drought frequency dropped to more than 10 years, securing the reliability of water supply. To secure the reliability by increasing the capacity of main intake works, it was calculated that about 19,000~2,400,000 tons need to be added to each reservoir. In addition, climate change response plans were suggested to improve the reliability of the water supply in each district based on the results of economic analysis.

  • Long-term tide-gauge data from around the Korean Peninsula were reanalyzed. Both the coastal water and the open sea surrounding the Korean Peninsula appeared to have been influenced by global warming. The long-term change in relative sea levels obtained from tidal stations showed a general rising trend, especially near Jeju Island. It is proposed that global warming may have caused shifting of the path of the Kuroshio branch (Tsushima Warm Current) toward Jeju Island, causing a persistent increase in the water levels along the coast of the island over the last few decades.

  • Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) is a highly mountainous and remote region covering 45% of Upper Indus Basin (UIB) with around 1.8 million population is vulnerable to climate change and socio-economic growth makes water resources management and planning more complex. To understand the water scarcity in the region this study is carried out to project water supply and demand for agricultural and domestic sector under various climate-socio-economic scenarios in five sub catchments of GB i.e., Astore, Gilgit, Hunza, Shigar and Shyok for a period of 2015 to 2050 using Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) model. For climate change scenario ensembled mean of three global climate models (GCMs) was used under three different Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios (RCP2.6, RCP6.0 and RCP8.5). The Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) and agricultural Land Development (LD) scenarios were combined with climate scenarios to develop climate-socio-economic scenario. Our results indicate that the climate change and socio-economic growth would create a gap between supply and demand of water in the region, with socio-economic growth (e.g. agricultural and population) as dominant external factor that would reduce food production and increase poverty level in the region. Among five catchments only Astore and Gilgit will face shortfall of water while Shyoke would face shortfall of water only under agricultural growth scenarios. We also observed that the shortfall of water in response to climate-socio-economic scenarios is totally different over two water deficient catchments due to its demography and geography. Finally, to help policy makers in developing regional water resources and management policies we classified five sub catchments of UIB according to its water deficiency level.

  • A water source heat pump (WSHP) system is regarded as an energy-efficiency heating and cooling supply system for buildings due to its high energy efficiency and low greenhouse gas emissions. Recently, water sources such as river water, lake water, and raw water are attracting attention as heat sources for a heat pump system in Korea. This paper analyzed the applicability of a river water source heat pump system (RSHP). The river water temperature level was compared with the outdoor air and ground temperature levels to present applicability. In addition, the cooling and heating performance were compared through a simulation approach for the RSHP and a ground source heat pump (GSHP) applied to a large-scale office building. To compare the temperature level, the actual data were applied to the river water and the outdoor air, while the simulation results were applied to the ground circulation water. The results showed that the change in river water temperature throughout the year was similar to the change in outdoor air temperature. However, unlike the outdoor air temperature, the difference between the hourly and daily average river water temperatures was not large. The temperature level of river water was lower during the heating season and somewhat higher during the cooling season than that of the ground circulation water. Finally, the performance of the RSHP system was 13.4% lower than that of the GSHP system on an annual-based.

  • In this study, In this study, the Datum Level-based hydrography surveying system and the ellipsoid-based system were analyzed to acquire more consistent depth data. For the study, the ellipsoid-based surveying for hydrography was conducted twice for the same track line. And the depth was calculated by correcting rise and fall of water level (water level change by tidal energy and other marine environmental energies) respectively by the traditional water level correction method and ellipsoidally referenced water level correction method. there is able to check that Ellipsoid-based hydrographic surveying data is more improved than Datum Level-based hydrographic surveying data in aspect of level difference phenomenon in the same area (surveying line). This result shows that if the Ellipsoid-based hydrographic surveying is performed, the sea level change (tidal energy and other marine environmental energy) of the survey area in real time could be reflected to more consistent generating bathymetric data.

  • Seapage condition by sea water may appears on sea dike due to the gap of tidal, which generated by the sealevel repeatedly moves up and down result of the change of tidal level. In this study, apparatus was developed to apply similitude after setting the critical section. It was found that the soil loss was dramatically increased by increasing hydraulic gradient step by step. Also, to understand the change of seadike which considered the changes of the change of tidal level and inside sealevel, it was executed the experiments which divided the sea level condition of inside by continually changes the sealevel difference which is outside of the high tide and ebb tide.
