GPI (Group Pollution Index) using 29 indicator groups of Korean benthic macroinvertebrates was proposed in 1992, a higher category taxa-level index developed for rapid field assessment of organic water pollution. This study was performed to revise the assessment scheme of GPI based on taxonomic performance and ecological information accumulated since 1992. The original GPI was renamed SBMI (Simple Benthic Macroinvertebrates Index), and SBMI was based on saprobic valency of 26 indicator groups composed of higher category taxa (mainly family ~ phylum) excluding some genus or species-level taxa. SBMI revealed highly significant correlation with concentration of 5-day biochemical oxygen demand ($BOD_5$) (correlation coefficient r = 0.78, n = 569 sites), total suspended solids (r = 0.69), and total phosphorus (r = 0.77). Also, SBMI revealed strong correlation with Shannon-Weaver's species diversity (r = -0.85), Margalef's species richness (r = -0.85), and McNaughton's dominance (r = 0.83). Determination coefficient of SBMI to concentration of water quality items and values of community indices such as species diversity was 3 ~ 8 % and approximately 11 ~ 14 % higher than that of GPI, respectively. Correlation between SBMI and water quality factors or community indices such as species diversity did not reveal much difference compared to that of species-level indices, such as BMI (Benthic Macroinvertebrates Index) and ESB (Ecological Score of Benthic Macroinvertebrates). SMBI is a simple-qualitative index with higher category taxa easily identified, and is applicable for rapid field assessment of water environment impairment.

Detection of surface water features including river, wetland, reservoir from the satellite imagery can be utilized for sustainable management and survey of water resources. This research compared the water indices derived from the multispectral bands and the machine learning technique for detecting the surface water features from he Landsat-8 satellite image acquired in Daegu through the following steps. First, the NDWI(Normalized Difference Water Index) image and the MNDWI(Modified Normalized Difference Water Index) image were separately generated using the multispectral bands of the given Landsat-8 satellite image, and the two binary images were generated from these NDWI and MNDWI images, respectively. Then SVM(Support Vector Machine), the widely used machine learning techniques, were employed to generate the land cover image and the binary image was also generated from the generated land cover image. Finally the error matrices were used for measuring the accuracy of the three binary images for detecting the surface water features. The statistical results showed that the binary image generated from the MNDWI image(84%) had the relatively low accuracy than the binary image generated from the NDWI image(94%) and generated by SVM(96%). And some misclassification errors occurred in all three binary images where the land features were misclassified as the surface water features because of the shadow effects.
The deteriorating role of Nakdong River due to the Four Major Rivers Project has caused a series of problems, including water pollution, drying streams, aggravation of the hydroecology. Geumho River and Gyeongseong-cheon had a higher concentration index and is believed to impact the water quality of the main stream. The influence index of Geumho River and Nam River between 2015 and 2016, which have a large amount of discharge, was the highest among the tributaries in terms of the load material balance. Showing the highest average concentration and average load in the index assessment, Geumho River is believed to require an intensive management for improving the water quality of the main stream. Furthermore, when the cumulative percentage of the average concentration and average load was compared based on the water quality improvement of the tributaries mixed to Nakdong River, which was set to 60%, Geumho River, Nam River, Topyeong-cheon, and Cha-cheon, which showed the highest ratio in that order, were determined to require a water quality management program as a priority.
The genus-level biotic index of benthic macroinvertebrates (Benthic Macroinvertebrates Genus Index, BMGI) was developed and applicated based on the data collected from 13,347 sampling units of 814 sites from 2010 to 2021 in Korea. Tolerant values of 274 indicator taxa were established by analyzing the relationship between the relative frequency and abundance of indicator taxa and the water quality index considering biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), total suspended solids (TSS), and total phosphorus (T-P). BMGI showed a slightly higher correlation with water quality than the species-level biotic index (Benthic Macroinvertebrates Index, BMI) that was developed and applied in Korea. Although the BMGI does not contain species-level information, the reason why BMGI shows higher applicability than BMI seems to be due to the increase in the number of indicator taxa and the decrease in the misidentification of immature aquatic insects. The coefficient of determination in multiple regression with BOD5, TSS, and TP for BMGI was 0.62 in the long-term averaged data of 814 sites, and the standardized coefficient of BOD5 was -0.46, TSS was -0.17 and T-P was -0.21, respectively. As a result of the evaluation by BMGI, of the 814 sites, 38% were in good, 25% in fair, and 37% in poor condition.

대표적인 가뭄지수에는 Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI), Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI), Soil Water Deficit Index (SWDI), Vegetation condition index (VCI), Temperature Condition Index (TCI), Vegetation Health Index (VHI), Scaled Drought Condition Index (SDCI), Integrated Crop Drought Index (ICDI) 등이 있다.
The floc strength of Escherichia coli was enhanced by adding water soluble polymer flocculants (BPA-5020 and BPA-5000) to the particulate flocculant (BPA-1000) as indicated by the increase in the shear index. The shear index of the E. coli flocs increased from 0.39 with the particulate flocculant alone to 0.94 with the particulate flocculant in conjunction with the water soluble polymer flocculant. In addition, the sedimentation rate of flocs was higher and the sedimented volume of flocs was smaller when the particulate flocculant was used with the water soluble polymer flocculant. When E. coli was flocculated first with the water soluble flocculant and the particulate flocculant was added later into the E. coli flocs formed, the sedimentation rate of the flocs was greater than that of any other combination. The shear index of the flocs was, however, independent of the sequence of the flocculant addition.
The purpose of this study is to provide a guide for selection of oral hygiene devices for nations and establishing valid indication of recently popularized water jet. The author has divided 36 persons into general, orthodontic, periodontal patients according to their oral hygiene state, and then evaluated the degree or decrease in plaque indices and gingival bleeding indices. The obtained results were as follows. 1. When both manual toothbrush and water jet were used together by three kind of patients, significant decreases in plaque index were observed in all patients, after 4 weeks compared with ordinary toothbrushing only(p<0.05). 2. When both oral hygiene devices were used together by three kind of patients, significant decreases in gingival bleeding index were observed in all patients after 4 weeks compared with ordinary toothbrushing only(p<0.05). 3. Singificant differences of the average gingival bleeding index & plaque index among three kind of patients were observed(p<0.05). 4. Therefore, it is concluded that for effective oral hygiene care. water jet can be recommendable to general patients, especially to orthodontic or periodontal patients.
In this study, we identified how the water content change in various NCO index affects the static comfort of polyurethane seat foam pad for automobiles. In order to identify factors that affect the static comfort, a static load test was performed using UTM to plot a hysteresis curve. The hardness of the foam when it was modified by 25, 65%, hysteresis loop area, hysteresis loss (%), and Sag factor were also obtained. By measuring the swelling ratio, it was confirmed that, as the water content increased in a fixed NCO index, the hardness and crosslinking density increased while the restoring force decreased due to the increase of urea bond. Also the Sag factor decreased due to the increase of surface hardness. As the NCO index increased in a fixed water content, the urethane and urea bond reacted more with isocyanate, leading to an increase in hardness and decrease in restoring force.

In the past decade, many countries developed varies promising theories, methodologies and technologies for water resources management, such as Smart Water in Korea, eWater in Australia, Intelligent Water in Untied States, and Internet of Water in China. It is no exaggeration to say that Smart Water Management(SWM) will have a major role to play in addressing the global water challenges in the background of climate change, population growth and rapid urbanization. As a result, we can see major shifts taking place in the structure of the water industry, with a need for new approaches, skills, and water management policies. All these point towards a brighter future for the smart water sector and a new water paradigm, with applications and potential throughout the water cycle. However, each countries have their technology and industry standard system which may swift similar innovation and technology into different channels. In that sense, developing a common performance index and standard docking adapter for assessing Smart Water Management Initiatives(SWMI) is crucial for drawing a linkage of SWMI and SWMs to a way to implement advanced technology across Asia and Pacific. The performance index and standard docking adapter will facilitate quantitative and qualitative effects of utilized SWM techniques.
