Accurate quantitative evaluation of baseflow contribution to streamflow is imperative to address seasonal drought vulnerability, flood occurrence and groundwater management concerns for efficient and sustainable water resources management in watersheds. Several baseflow separation algorithms using recursive filters, graphical method and tracer or chemical balance have been developed but resulting baseflow outputs always show wide variations, thereby making it hard to determine best separation technique. Therefore, the current global shift towards implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in water resources is employed to compare the performance of deep learning models with conventional hydrograph separation techniques to quantify baseflow contribution to streamflow of Piney River watershed, Tennessee from 2001-2021. Streamflow values are obtained from the USGS station 03602500 and modeled to generate values of Baseflow Index (BI) using Web-based Hydrograph Analysis (WHAT) model. Annual and seasonal baseflow outputs from the traditional separation techniques are compared with results of Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) and simple Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) models. The GRU model gave optimal BFI values during the four seasons with average NSE = 0.98, KGE = 0.97, r = 0.89 and future baseflow volumes are predicted. AI offers easier and more accurate approach to groundwater management and surface runoff modeling to create effective water policy frameworks for disaster management.
PHWR achieves high neutron economy by adopting heavy water as its moderator and coolant. On the other hand it permits much tritium generation, compared to LWR, due to the neutron capture reaction of deuterium in heavy water. Meanwhile in the reactor core, $^3He formed as the result of-decay of tritium, captures a thermal neutron and transforms to tritium again. The existing calculation models on tritium generation in PHWR neglect the contribution of $^3He$ in both moderator and coolant due to its relatively low solubility. However the neutron capture cross-section of $^3He$ is almost $1.6{\times}10^7$ times as large as that of deuterium. That means that the dissolved amount of 0.03 ppm of $^3He$ in heavy water is enough to generate the same amount of tritium as that generated by the deuterium of total heavy water in the system. This study dealt with the contribution of $^3He$ to tritium generation. As a sample case, the contribution of $^3He$ to the tritium generation in Wolsong #1 was evaluated and compared to the measured values. According to the result of this study, it is concluded that $^3He$ in coolant contributes very much to the tritium generation but that in moderator shows negligible effects due to the low solubility and $^4He$ cover gas. At the beginning of the plant operation, the contribution of $^3He$ is slightly greater than the measured value but agrees well with the measured as the operating time increases.

It is reported that the intensity of rainfall will likely increase, on average, over the world on 2000. For water resources security, many studies for flow paths from rainfall or snowmelt to subsurface have been conducted. In Korea, few isotopic studies for characterizations of flow path have been undertaken. For a better understanding of how water derived from atmosphere moves to subsurface and from subsurface to stream, an analysis of precipitation and stream water using oxygen-18 and deuterium isotopes in a small watershed, Dorim-cheon, Seoul, was conducted with high resolution data. Variations of oxygen-18 in precipitation greater than 10 (δ18Omax = −1.21, δ18Omin = −11.23) were observed. Isotopic compositions of old water (groundwater) assumed as the stream water collected in advance were −8.98 and −61.85 for oxygen and hydrogen, respectively. Using a two-component mixing model, hydrograph separation of the stream water in Dorim-cheon was conducted based on weighted mean value of δ18O. As a result, except of instant dominance of rainfall, contribution of old water was dominant during the study period. On average, 71.3% of the old water and 28.7% of rainfall contributed to the stream water. The results show that even in the small watershed, which is covered with thin soil layer in granite mountain region, the stream water is considerably influenced by old water inflow rather than rainfall.

Understanding the composition of the dam inflow can improve the efficiency of dam operation considering the seasonal characteristics. Hydrograph analysis is one of the methods to identify the characteristics of dam inflow. In addition, baseflow separation on the dam inflow can be affected by anthropogenic influences depending on dam locations. In this regard, the objectives of this study are 1) to analyze yearly and monthly baseflow contribution to the dam inflow and 2) to compare the baseflow contribution to the inflow in dams located upstream and downstream of the watershed. The result shows that the estimated baseflow index was smaller in the upstream dams compared to the downstream dams. Discharge from the upstream water infrastructure including dams and reservoirs can be a part of inflow into the downstream water infrastructure. Based on this scenario, the discharge regulated from the upstream dam could lead to overestimation of baseflow contribution to inflow into the downstream dam. We expect that the results from this study elucidate the role and function of dams and hence, contribute to the efficient operation of dams located in the upstream and the downstream of the watershed.

Agricultural reservoirs have a great influence on the water circulation in the watershed. It is necessary to evaluate the impact on water circulation by the agricultural reservoir. Therefore, in this study, we simulated the agricultural watershed through linkage of Hydrological Simulation Program Fortran (HSPF) and Module-based hydrologic Analysis for Agricultural watershed (MASA) and evaluated the contribution of the agricultural reservoir to water circulation by watershed water circulation index. As a result of simulating the Idong reservoir watershed through the HSPF-MASA linkage model, the model performance during the validation period was R2 0.74 upstream, 0.78 downstream, and 0.76 reservoir water level, respectively. To evaluate the contribution of agricultural reservoirs, three scenarios (baseline, present state, and present state without reservoir) were simulated, and the water balance differences for each scenario were analyzed. In the evaluation through the agricultural water circulation rate in the watershed, it was found that the water circulation rate increased by 1.1%, and the direct flow rate decreased by 13.6 mm due to the agricultural reservoir. In the evaluation through the Budyko curve, the evaporation index increased by 0.01. Agricultural reservoirs reduce direct runoff and increase evapotranspiration, which has a positive effect on the water circulation.
Nowadays, the high land use, mainly used for urbanization, is affecting runoff loads of non-point pollutants to increase. According to this fact, increasing runoff loads seems like to appear that it contributes to high ratio of pollution loads in the whole the pollution loads and that this non-point source is the main cause of water becoming worse quality. Especially, concentrated pollutants on the impermeable roads run off to the public water bodies. Also the coefficient of runoff from roads is high with a fast velocity of runoff, which ends up with consequence that a lot of pollutants runoff happens when it is raining. Therefore it is very important project to evaluate the quantity of pollutant loads. In this study, I computed the pollutant loadings depending on time and rainfall to analyze characteristics of runoff while first flush storm water and evaluated the runoff time while first flush storm water and rainfall based on the change in curves on the graph. I also computed contribution ratio to identify its impact on water quality of stream. I realized that the management and treatment of first flush storm water effluents is very important for the management of road's non-point source pollutants because runoff loads of non-point source pollution are over the 80% of whole loads of stream. Also according to the evaluation of runoff loads of first flush storm water for SS, run off time was shown under the 30 minute and rainfall was shown under the 5mm which is less than 20% of whole rainfall. These are under 5mm which is regarded amount of first flush storm water by the Ministry of Environment and it is judged to be because run off by rainfall is very fast on impermeable roads. Also, run off time and rainfall of BOD is higher than SS. Therefore I realized that the management of non-point source should be managed and done differently depending on each material. Finally, the contribution ratio of pollutants loads by rainfall-runoff was shown SS 12.7%, BOD 12.7%, COD 15.9%, T-N 4.9%, T-P 8.9%, however, the pollutants loads flowing into the steam was shown 4.4%. This represents that the concentration of non-point pollutants is relatively higher and we should find the methodical management and should be concerned about non-point source for improvement on water quality of streams.

In this research, LCA analysis of the manufacturing process of pot bearing for fixed, movable in all directions, movable in one direction was carried out to analyze the environmental load using the LCA methodology. Especially, the water footprint that has been and issue in recent years was analyzed. As a result of LCA, it was analyzed that the contribution of the plate was more than 64.2% in all of the six impact categories in the case of fixed pot bearing base, and more than 94% in the category of resource depletion and photochemical oxidant creation. In the case of all direction pot bearing and one direction pot bearing, the contribution of PTFE was the highest in the global warming and stratospheric ozone depletion, and the contribution by the plate was higher in the other impact categories. The water footprint of each type of pot bearing was analyzed as $22.4m^3\;H_2O\;eq/kg$ for one direction pot bearing, $17.1m^3\;H_2O\;eq/kg$ for fixed pot bearing, and $14.1m^3\;H_2O\;eq/kg$ for all direction pot bearing. As a result of life cycle analysis, the contribution of water use in manufacturing was more than 65% in all three types. The results of this study can be used as basic data for decision making in construction method and material selection of bridges in the future.

The objective of this study was to assess the effect of policies on water quality management based on the changes in pollutants and water quality in Special Water Preservation Area (SWPA) of Lake Paldang watershed from 1990 to 2016. The population, total sewage and flow rate of wastewater in SWPA continuously increased from 1990 to 2016, while the location of new facilities for industrial and livestock facilities has been restricted. However, unlike the buffer zone in which industrial and livestock facilities were continuously reduced after implementing of TMDL, it was found that the effect of land-use regulations on industrial and livestock facilities in SWPA were mitigated by the increase in the size of large facilities. Since 1999 when the emission standard of public sewage treatment plants (STP) was changed, the water quality of Lake Paldang has increased despite the increase of pollutant source. Since emission standard of STP changed in 2012 (BOD 5 mg/L, TP 0.2 mg/L), BOD concentration in Lake Paldang has also improved to the level of water quality in the early 1990s where as TP concentration has remained at its lowest since 1990. BOD and TP average discharge concentration of 43 STP (${\geq}500m^3/day$) in 2016 have been maintained $1.7{\pm}0.7mg/L$ and $0.06{\pm}0.02mg/L$ respectively. While the discharged load of STP in SWPA was decreased by the concentration management, the contribution rate to the total discharged load of non-point pollutants increased to 70 % in 2015, and the contribution rate to the point discharged load of individual treatment facilities increased to 80 %.
A Series of hydrophilic-hydrophobic copolymeric surfaces of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and various alkyl methacrylate (RMA) have been prepared by in-situ solution copolymerization using a redox radical initiator. Contact angles of various probing fluids on the polymeric surfaces were determined in air (hydrophobic environment) and under water (hydrophilic environment). From contact angle data, the dispersive interaction contribution (${\gamma}^d_s$) and the polar contribution (${\gamma}^p_s$) to the total surface free energy (${\gamma}^d_s$) and interfacial energetic quantities (e.g., water-polymer, liquid-polymer interface, etc.) were estimated by surface and interface physicochemical theory. From the comparison of surface energetic components between hydrophobic and hydrophilic media, it is found that surface and interface energetic components of polymeric surface as a representative low-energy surface are highly dependent on environmental fluids. Also, from the correlation between interfacial energetic results and surface energetic criterion of biocompatibility, we found that HEMA/BMA, HEMA/HMA copolymer systems are in the region of biocompatibility.
