Effective Use of Micro Fines (미분의 효과적인 이용에 관한 연구)

  • Portland cement concrete is made with coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, portland cement, water and, in some cases, selected chemical admixtures such as air-entraining agents, water reducer, superplasticizer, and so on, and mineral admixtures such as fly ash, silica fume, slags, etc. Typically, in the concrete, the coarse aggregate and fine aggregate will occupy approximately 80 percent of the total volume of the final mix. Therefore, the coarse and fine aggregates affect to the properties of the portland cement concrete. As the natural sands are drained, it is necessary and economical to utilize crushed sands(manufactured fine aggregate). It is reported that crushed sands differ from natural sands in gradation, particle shape and texture, and the micro fines in the crushed sands affect to the quality of the portland cement concrete. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the characteristics of fresh and hardened concrete with high content of micro fines. This study provides firm data for the use of crushed sands with higher micro fines.

Effects of Oxidizer Inject Angle on Combustion Characteristics in Hydro-Reactive Engine (Hydro-Reactive 엔진의 산화제 분사각도에 따른 연소특성에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, the variation of the flow field in Hydro-reactive engine combustor was numerically studied through 2-dimensional axisymmetric model with aluminum and heated water vapor. For calculating all velocity fields, compressible Navier-Stokes equation was used with Pre-conditioning. AUSM+up(p) method was used to exactly calculate mass flow in the control volume. As using SST model that is a turbulent model, the result had high accuracy for free stream and the flow near the wall. The effects of the temperature, variation of the flow field and distribution of chemical products on inject angle of heated water vapor were studied.

  • The adsorption of heavy metals in the waste water carried out on the various domestic clays and waste pottery. The effect of parameters such as pH, temperature, adsorption time and coexisting cations on the adsorption ability and characteristics were investigated to find out whether the clays could be used as adsorbents. Adsorption equilibrium was reached within 20 minutes on all the clays. The optimum pH was found to be above 5. When other cations such as Cu(II) or Zn(II) coexisted with Pb(II), the adsorption amount of Pb(II) decreased because of competing adsorption.

Surface and Optical Characteristics of Cobalt Dopped-titanium Oxide Film Fabricated by Water Spray Pyrolysis Technique (습식 분무 열분해 방법으로 제조한 코발트 도핑된 티타늄 산화막의 표면 및 광학적 특성)

  • Titanium dioxide films $(TiO_2)$ doped cobalt transition metal were prepared on titanium metal by water spray pyrolysis technique. Micro-morphology, crystalline structure, chemical composition and binding state of sample groups were evaluated using field emission scanning microscope(FE-SEM), X-ray diffractometer(XRD), Raman spectrometer, X-ray photoelectron spectrometer(XPS). $TiO_2$ films of rutile structure were predominately formed on all sample groups and $Ti_2O_3$ oxide was coexisted on the surface of cobalt doped-sample groups. The optical absorption peaks measured by using UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer were observed at specific wavelength region in sample groups doped cobalt ion. This result could be analyzed by introducing crystal field theory.

  • We investigated the structural changes of the organic molecules of azobenzene-containing long-chain fatty acids which show the cis-trans photo-isomerization characteristics. The dynamic behavior of these polar molecules on the water surface of the Kuhn type LB deposition apparatus was detected electrically by using the displacement current method.

  • Most of the operating pressurized water reactors (PWRs)has chosen Inconel 600 as steam generator tubing. The long-term operation of steam generators showed that the use of this material induced localized corrosion damages. The current trend is using Inconel 690 as a tube material for the replacement steam generators. Based on the current trend, we have chosen Inconel 690 for the advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) steam generator tube material. Adsorption mechanism of copper ions on porous chitosan membranes: Equilibrium and XPS study

  • Heavy metal contamination has attracted considerable attention during recent decades due to the potential risk brought about for human beings and the environment. Several adsorbent materials are utilized for the purification of contaminated water resources among which chitosan is considered as an appropriate alternative. Copper is a heavy metal contaminants found in several industrial wastewaters and its adsorption on porous and macroporous chitosan membranes is investigated in this study. Membranes are prepared by phase inversion and particulate leaching method and their morphology is characterized using SEM analysis. Batch adsorption experiments are performed and it is found that copper adsorption on macroporous chitosan membrane is higher than porous membrane. The iso-steric heat of adsorption was determined by analyzing the variations of temperature to investigate its effect on adsorption characteristics of macroporous chitosan membranes. Furthermore, desorption experiments were studied using NaCl and EDTA as eluants. The mechanism of copper adsorption was also investigated using XPS spectroscopy which confirms simultaneous occurrence of chelation and electrostatic adsorption mechanisms.

Environmental Pollutants Drained From Highway Pavement Road

  • Environmental polluting materials from road surface drainage are a significant nonpoint source influenced to the eutrophication of lake and ecosystems with a transport development in recent years. To elucidate the discharge characteristics, the changing patterns in concentrations of polluting materials such as suspended solid (SS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrogenous and phosphorus nutrients in drainage waters, were investigated during rainfall. Load variation of COD concentration in drainage water samples was closely related to that of SS concentration. This indicates that SS contained a greater part of organic matter. A quite difference between the past pavement and the new well-drainage pavement system was observed in the concentrations of SS and COD in drainage waters. Appreciable concentrations of nitrite and nitrate were determined in drainage waters. The present results indicate that the drainage water from road surfaces is a significant nonpoint source, and that the well-drainage pavement system introduced to skid prevention has an effect on the decreases of pollutants.

  • It is essential to analyze and classify the physical characteristics of weathered granite for engineering purposes. This paper is to suggest a physical method to determine the degree of weathering of weathered soils. A new classification method for determining the degree of weathering is suggested, based upon the results from laboratory tests including fall cone test. According to the proposed physical method using fall cone apparatus, the measured values of the samples from the same area show distinctive difference of weathering. The water content tends to increase with increasing the degree of weathering at the same penetration in fall cone test. And relationship between CWI and water content are expressed one equation in Hwaseong area and Ilsan area.

Surface change of enamel according to application time of 35% Carbamide Peroxide (35% Carbamide Peroxide gel의 적용시간에 따른 법랑질 변화)

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the effect of 35% Carbamide Peroxide(CP) bleaching agent on the changes in physical and chemical characteristics of tooth. The effect of bleaching agent on enamel was analyzed using Hardness test, SEM and EDS. The microhardness between bleached groups after bleaching showed statistically significant difference according to the paired t-test. The bleached enamel surface showed apparent morphological changes compared to the enamel, which was stored in distilled water only. The difference of the total mineral contents for the distilled water and Carbamide Peroxide did not show statistical significance. These results demonstrated that bleaching using 35% Carbamide Peroxide were adversely affects application time of experimental group and may the safety of using these agents for a short time in dentist-monitored bleaching.
