  • 2002년 전국의 폐기물 발생량은 1일 277,533톤이 발생하였으며, 처리방법으로는 재활용이 70%를 차지하고 있고, 매립 19.8%, 소각 6.5%의 처리방식을 사용하는 것으로 나타나고 있다. 폐기물 소각으로 인한 에너지 회수는 1995년 이후로 지속적으로 증가하고 있으며, 신 재생에너지 중 폐기물이 차지하는 비중도 점차 증가하는 추세이다. 폐기물 활용의 예로서 소각로의 활용은 에너지 절약과 온실가스의 저감이 큰 것으로 분석되었다. 다만 이러한 분석은 단편적인 분석에 불과하여 폐기물 관리가 국민경제에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위한 통합모형의 필요성이 제기되었으며, 이에 따라 폐기물관리의 영향을 분석할 수 있는 통합모형을 제안하였다.

한국원자력연구원의 해체기술 개발 현황 및 향후 전망 (The Status and Prospect of Decommissioning Technology Development at KAERI)

  • 한국원자력연구원에서 개발 중인 해체기술 현황 및 전망에 대해 기술하였다. 특히, 해체의 핵심기술인 제염, 원격절단, 해체 폐기물처리 및 부지 복원 분야를 중점적으로 다루었다. 제염기술로는 부품제염과 원자력시스템제염 부분을 고찰하였고, 원격절단기술 관련해서는 절단기술, 원격제어 및 해체공정 모사기술이 다루어졌다. 해체 폐기물처리기술 관련해서는, 비록 해체 후 다양한 폐기물이 발생하지만, 주 폐기물인 금속, 가연성폐기물과 난처리성 특수 폐기물인 고염 고방사성 폐액, 유기혼성폐기물 및 우라늄 복합폐기물 처리기술 등을 주로 기술하였다. 마지막으로, 해체부지 복원 분야에서는 방사선 측정, 부지재이용의 안전성평가 그리고 부지 복원기술 등을 중점적으로 기술하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 혐기성 소화 성능 향상을 위해 초음파 및 알칼리 전처리에 의한 폐활성 슬러지의 가용화 효과를 조사하였다. 초음파 및 알칼리 전처리는 세포벽의 파괴로 인하여 모세관 흡입 시간을 증가시킬 뿐만 아니라 상등액의 용존성 화학적 산소요구량, 단백질 및 탁도 농도를 증가키는 것으로 나타났다. 알칼리와 초음파 전처리를 병행한 슬러지 가용화가 초음파 전처리만을 수행한 경우에 비해 용존성 화학적 산소요구량과 단백질 증가가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 알칼리와 초음파 전처리를 동시에 수행한 경우 폐활성 슬러지의 고형물 농도 증가에 따라 가용화 효율이 감소하는 것으로 조사되었다.

Single and mixed chelants-assisted phytoextraction of heavy metals in municipal waste dump soil by castor

  • The phytoextraction of some toxic heavy metals from municipal waste dump soil by castor plant (Ricinus communis) was tested under natural and single or mixed chelant-assisted scenarios in pot microcosms. A sandy loam with total metal contents (mg/kg): Cd (84.5), Cu (114.5), Ni (70.3), Pb (57.8), and Zn (117.5), was sampled from an active dumpsite in Calabar, Nigeria and used for the study. Castor (small seed variety) was grown under natural phytoextraction or single/binary chelant (citric acid, oxalic acid, and EDTA) applications (5-20 mmol/kg soil) for 63 days. Castor exhibited no visual phytotoxic symptoms with typically sigmoid growth profiles at the applied chelant doses. Growth rates, however, decelerated with increase in chelant dose. Post-harvest biomass yields were higher under chelant application than for natural phytoextraction. Both root and shoot metal concentrations (mg/kg) increased quasilinearly and significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) with increase in chelant dose, furnishing maximum levels as: Cd (55.6 and 20.9), Cu (89.5 and 58.4), Ni (49.8 and 19.6), Pb (32.1 and 12.1), and Zn (99.5 and 46.6). Ranges of translocation factors, root and shoot bioaccumulation factors were 0.21-3.49, 0.01-0.89 and 0.01-0.51, respectively. Overall, the binary chelant treatments were less toxic for R. communis growth and enhanced metal accumulation in shoots to a greater extent than the single chelant scenarios, but more so when EDTA was present in the binary combination. This suggests that the mixed chelants could be considered as alternative treatments for enhanced phytoextraction and revegetation of degraded waste dump soils.

폐산의 재활용 현황 및 관리 방안 (Present Condition on the Recycling and Management for Waste Acids)

  • 세계 각국은 폐기물의 발생 및 처리 문제를 극복하기 위해 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 특히, 매년 발생량이 증가하고 있는 폐산은 처리보다는 재활용에 대한 관심이 크게 증가하고 있는 상황이지만, 국내외적으로 재활용 생성물의 품질규정이 불명확하고 관리체계 또한 미비한 실정이다. 따라서 폐산 생성물의 효율적 관리방안을 마련하기 위해 본 연구에서는 국내의 폐산 발생 및 재활용 관련 현황을 조사하였으며, 이를 통해 현재 국내에서 재활용되고 있는 폐산의 주요 생성물을 조사하였다. 그 결과 염화철, 황산철, 청화제1동, 산화동, 치환동이 주요 재활용 생성물인 것으로 나타났다. 장차 이들 생성물에 대한 체계적인 관리체제를 구축함으로서 폐산 자원화를 제고할 뿐 아니라 환경오염 방지와 같은 긍정적인 결과를 기대할 수 있을 것이다.

Effect of Food Waste Compost on Crop Productivity and Soil Chemical Properties under Rice and Pepper Cultivation

  • Food waste has recognized one of useful sources for potentially agricultural application to supply organic matter and nutrients in arable soil. However, there was little information on application of food waste compost related to the maturity and NaCl content in arable soil. This study evaluated the effect of food waste compost application on yield and fertility in soil under flooding and upland condition. The yields in rice and pepper cultivation decreased with increasing the rate of food waste compost application in soil (p<0.05). Maximum yields of rice ($49.0g\;plant^{-1}$) and pepper ($204g\;plant^{-1}$) were shown at 10 and $30Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of food waste compost application, respectively. The N, P, and K contents in grain and plant residues increased by the application of food waste compost, there was no difference on Na/K ratio in plant tissue among the treatments. Application of food waste compost resulted in the increase of pH, EC, TC, available P contents in soil after crop harvest, especially, which was shown the increase of the CEC and exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) contents in irrespective of water condition. In conclusion, application of food waste compost in soil was effective on the supply of the organic matter and nutrient. However, it might need caution to apply food waste compost for sustainable productivity in arable soil because of potential Na accumulation.

Comparing the composting characteristics of food waste supplemented with various bulking agents

  • To compare the composting characteristics of food waste supplemented with various bulking agents, aerated composting was performed by mixing sawdust, ginkgo leaves, insect feces, and mushroom waste at ratios of 6 : 4 (w/w). The initial temperatures (day after treatment [DAT] 3) of the sawdust, ginkgo leaves, insect feces and the mushroom waste mixtures were 39, 58, 65, and 51℃, respectively. The DAT 3 temperature was the highest in the food waste-insect feces mixture (65℃) and the lowest in the sawdust one (39℃). However, the insect feces treatment was terminated at DAT 21 because of a high water content (70.92%). The water content (DAT 56) of the composted food waste supplemented with sawdust, mushroom waste, and ginkgo leaves stood at 51.28, 39.81, and 44.92%, respectively. Therefore, the fully mature composts satisfied the water content requirement of less than 55% as recommended in the fertilizer standards of the RDA of Korea. The results of the CoMMe-101, Solvita and seed germination index methods indicate that the mushroom waste and ginkgo leaves treatments matured relatively quicker than that of the sawdust one. Based on the above observations, it is concluded that the mushroom waste and ginkgo leaves are more effective bulking agents compared to sawdust and as such, are recommended as suitable replacements for sawdust in food waste composting.

  • 케퍼시터용 Ta 분말제조공정에서 발생하는 waste 분말을 이용하여 TaC 분말을 자전고온합성법에 의하여 합성하였다. waste TA는 합성반응의 활성 및 산화방지를 위하여 전처리공정에서 미분쇄 및 탈산처리가 필요하였다. 합성반응에서는 TaC 단일상은 6∼7wt.%C의 조성범위에서 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 반응온도는 시료의 압축력에 영향을 받으며, 압축력 1600psi에서 최고반응온도를 나타냈다.

Insecticidal Effect of Neem Cake Extracts on Cabbage Pests, Aphis gossypii and Pluetella xylostella

  • In organic agriculture, choose of effective and cheap bio-pesticide is very important. The authors developed an insecticidal extract from neem cake, waste of neem oil from kernel, and applied as a bio-pesticide. Bio-pesticide neem cake extracts experiment on cabbage pest was carried out at Wonju Agricultural Technology and Extension Center from 11 March to 30 May 2003. There were six treatments with three replications, using completely randomized design. Treatments involved three and six sprays of synthetic pyrethroid pesticide cypermethrin 10 EC at the dilution rate of 2.2 mL $L^{-1}$ of distilled water and four, five and six sprays of bio-pesticide neem at the dilution rate of 13.3 mL $L^{-1}$ of distilled water, and untreated control. For each treatment, designated sprayings were done at 7 days interval. Pre-spray data showed that the plants in all the experimental plots were already infested with aphid (Aphis gossypii), and diamondback moth (Pluetella xylostella). The results indicated that all neem pesticide treatments were more effective in insecticidal activity than the untreated control and the chemical treatments in controlling aphids and diamondback moth. Among the three neem treatments, there were no significant differences between them.

Effects of Wet Feeding of Diets with or without Food Waste on Growth Performance and Carcass Characteristics in Finishing Pigs

  • Two experiments were conducted. In expt. 1, a total of fifty-four pigs (L$\times$Y$\times$D, 56.14$\pm$1.7 kg) were used for a feeding trial to determine the effect of wet feeding of a commercial-type diet without food waste (FW). Treatments were dry (Control), wet (WF) and wet+dry feeding (WDF). For wet feeding, the diet was mixed with water at a ratio of 1:2.5 (feed:water). A wet feed was given during the whole experimental period for the WF group, but the dry feed was given during the finisher period for the WDF group. In expt. 2, a total of fifty-four pigs(L$\times$Y$\times$D, 55.7$\pm$1.8 kg) were used for a feeding trial to determine the effect of wet feeding of FW. Treatments were a commercial-type dry (Control), wet fermented food waste (WFFW) and WFFW+dry feeding (WFFW+DF). For wet feeding of fermented food waste, however, some ingredients (concentrate) were added to make nutrient contents comparable to the control diet. The FW collected was ground ($\leq$5 mm), heated with a steam jacket (140$\pm$3$^{\circ}C$) and fermented with probiotics for one day in a steel container at 30-40$^{\circ}C$. For the WFFW group, the wet feed was given during the whole experimental period, but a dry feed was given during finisher period for the WFFW+DF group. In expt. 1, during the grower period, pigs fed wet feed showed higher average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) than those fed only dry feed (p<0.05). During the finisher period, pigs in the WDF group showed better ADG and FCR than the control group. During the entire experimental period, pigs in the WDF group grew faster (p<0.05) than those in the control group, and the same trend was found in FCR. Also, dressing percentage, backfat thickness, lean %, and pork color were not affected by the wet feeding of diets in this study. In expt. 2, during the grower period, pigs fed diets containing FW showed lower (p<0.05) ADG than those fed the control diet. But FCR was better (p<0.05) in pigs fed FW than in the control group. During the finisher period, pigs in the WFFW+DF group grew faster (p<0.05) than those in the control and WFFW groups. During the entire experimental period, pigs fed the control diet showed better ADG (p<0.05) than those fed FW, but feed intake and FCR were vice versa. Dressing percentage was lower (p<0.05) in the WFFW than in the control group, but backfat was thinner in the WFFW group than in the control group. In summary, it can be concluded that wet feeding of formula feed can improve daily gain, however, feeding fermented wet food waste may reduce daily gain of finishing pigs, even though it was fermented and the nutrient was fortified with concentrates. In addition, dry feeding of a formula feed during the finishing period can improve daily gain in pigs fed a wet feed with or without food waste during the grower period.
