Present states on reutilization of metal-bearing solid wastes in China including metal-containing gangue, red mud, nonferrous metallurgical slag or residue, arsenical slag, steel - iron slag, waste batteries, were described in detail. The wastes pile up at a large quantity, resulting in seriously potential harm to environment. Most of these wastes, however, contain valuable metals, which are regarded as important secondary resources for extracting metals. Waste slag and batteries with a high grade of metals are treated by a hydro-based and / or pyre-based method for extracting valuable metals. While gangue and waste slag with a low grade are as a raw material in architecture field. In the future, a novel technology, such as high-grads magnetization separation technique and biological technique, will be designed to treat these wastes for protecting environment and recycling valuable components. These wastes, furthermore, are synthetically reutilized to produce various architectural materials, including glass and ceramics.
As a process for commercial application, production of reducing sugar, antioxidant, and DNA protective compounds from shrimp-shell powder was investigated in a fed-batch biodegradation using Bacillus cereus EW5. The fed-batch biodegradation was operated in a 5-L bioreactor for 96 h according to three times pulse-feeding strategy. On the basis of the equal working volume (3 L), the fed-batch biodegradation showed a better production of the target compounds than the batch biodegradation, with higher cell density and shortened biodegradation period. The maximum values of the target compounds were 0.297 mg/mL of reducing sugar, 92.35% DPPH radical scavenging activity, 98.16% ABTS radical scavenging activity, and 1.55 reducing power at $A_{700}$, which were approximately 12.1, 3.4, 5.2, and 8.4% enhanced, respectively, compared with those obtained from the batch biodegradation. The fed-batch culture supernatant also showed the enhanced DNA damage inhibition activity than the batch culture supernatant. As a result, the fed-batch biodegradation accompanied by high cell density could produce more useful compounds, enabling an increase in the reutilization value of shrimp-shell waste.
To determine the cost-effectiveness of converting fish waste into liquid fertilizer, this study analyzed the production of 3 L of liquid fertilizer from the fermentation of fish waste. The total product cost of the fertilizer was calculated to be $165.26 for a one-batch operation. If the seed culture was repeated five times, the total product cost could be reduced to $36.39/L. According to this analysis, the reutilization of fish waste as liquid fertilizer was not particularly economically attractive at present, and plant-scale production would be necessary for commercialization. This is the first cost-effectiveness analysis of the bioconversion of fish waste into liquid fertilizer.
The availability of enokitake cultural waste for Lentinus edodes cultivation was investigated, although hardwood sawdust has traditionally been used as a substrate for this fungus. Firstly, physiochemical characteristics of cultural waste were analysed. Secondly, mycelial growth characteristics and fruiting yields of L. edodes on waste treated in some methods were determined. Physiochemical characteristics of enokitake cultural waste showed that the millwaste complex was a little degraded by enokitake fungus and suggested the probability that most component lost by enokitake could be rice bran. Mycelia of L. edodes grew and fruited well on waste supplemented by fresh rice bran and Quercus sawdust although didn't on waste only. Mycelial growths of these fungi on waste were accelerated when supplemented by rice bran to the percent of 40(w/w) but decreased or suppressed at above ratios(30, 40%, w/w). Supplementations of oak sawdust at above 40%(w/w) of the waste and rice bran at 20%(w/w) of the sawdust allowed such a good mycelial growth as to be selected as a pertinent mixing ratio for fruiting medium. A fruiting yield on enokitake cultural waste supplemented by oak sawdust (at 40% of the waste, w/w) and rice bran (at 20% of the sawdust, w/w) was not inferior to that on oak sawdust supplemented by rice bran only (at 20% of the sawdust, w/w). These results indicated strongly the potentiality of enokitake cultural waste as raw materials for shiitake cultivating substrates.
1.The domestic waste generated in Iksan city was 177 tons a day last year. 27 tons of that were recycled daily. Due to increased awareness the recycling rate also increased. 2. It is preferred to get continuous publicity and to enforce the program steadily to activate exchange centers and places like a flea market for reusable things, which will lead to increase the life-span of the current designated landfill site. 3. Because burying food waste in underground will be prohibited from year 2005, the reutilization of food waste by feeding domestic animals like ducks and making artificial fertilizer are preferred. 4. The case of Iksan city is expected to be a model to other cities by establishing a display room to accommodate its detail work demonstration, displaying modeled utilization items and exchange center, incinerator, duck ranch, lawn ground, etc. for making a city as an environmental preservation city model.

This test established the bioavailability and sample input by mixing the maintaining the microbial machine parts and food waste leachates in weight of 2:1 as advanced experiment, maintaining the constant temperature, agitating and observing its weight and property change for 60 hours. And, I injected daily the established microbial machine parts and food waste leachates rate, maintained the temperature in the reactor with $55{\sim}65^{\circ}C$, and agitated with constant speed. I studied the recycling possibility of food waste leachates by extracting the sample after 24 hours, verifying its characteristics, and repeating the food waste leachates input and sample extraction for about 40 days. Considering all about the results of this study, I saw that 87.32% of food waste leachates was reduced, and the solid of bluebug or food included in the food waste leachates was decomposed within 24 hrs. pH for 43 days after 9 days of stabilization period was maintained from 3.7~3.9 and the ignition loss from 88.67~87.3%, and the quantity of organic matter from 77.6~80.88%. With the similar result daily maintained, it is considered to progress more the minimization by inputting the future food waste leachates. C/N rate satisfies the less than 25 that is the composting basis within 8 days, maintaining between 13~15, with 2% of salt not exceeded, it is able to recycle as the compost of food waste leachates as based on the composting with no extracted heavy metal content.

The purpose of this study reutilization of waste fine tailing (FT) as admixture for cement and concrete. Various admixtures were made of Fine tailings and 2 Types of OPC, fly-ash and blast furnace slag. Cement mortars and concrete with FT are tested for fluidity and compressive strength. Also, the hydration reactivity of cement mortar with FT was examined by XRD and SEM morphology analysis. This work showed that the waste fine tailing could be effectively utilized as replacement materials of cement without any decrease in the strength if we can control the blaine of materials like cement, blast furnace slag and fly ash.

As the meaning of dictionary terminology, scum refers to a layer of impurities that accumulates at the surface of a liquid. In papermaking process, scum indicates the floated solid waste generated by a flotation process during the primary wastewater treatment. In this study, different kinds of stocks and scums collected from newspaper, liner, tissue and fine paper were analysed in details. The purpose of this study was firstly to demonstrate the composition characteristics of different sources of scum, secondly the analysis of environmental hazardous materials, and thirdly the evaluation of reutilization ability of fibrous materials from collected scum. As mentioned the meaning of solid waste, scum was actually differ from the waste sludge in sources, compositions and recycling abilities. In the same manner of waste paper, the sludge which is generated within onsite of papermaking processes would be reused as a raw material. The general compositions of scum from waste water were mainly inorganic ash materials, fine fibre fractions, recycled fibre debries, and ink particles. If the scum is able to reuse as fibrous additives in papermaking process, it could contribute to the savings of running costs in both the subsidiaries of fibrous material and the solid waste treatment with even small quantity.
To provide further information for reutilization of the waste wood obtained after cultivating oak mushroom in Kangwon-do, the crystal structures of the waste wood were investigated and compared to those of normal woods by a series of x-ray diffraction analysis. The results obtained are as follows: 1. An x-ray diffraction diagram of cultivated wood for 5 years was same as that of typical cellulose with some orientation of cellulose crystallites, but that of cultivated wood for 8 years a random. 2. Crystallinity indices in normal and cultivated woods for 5 years ranged from 57% to 60%. In the cultivated wood for 8 years, however, the value showed about 40%. 3. Crystallite widths of cultivated woods for 5 years and for 8 years were 3 nm and 2.5 nm, respectively. 4. Intensity ratios of equatorial and meridional layers did not show any significant differences. From the above results, it is clear that the waste wood obtained after cultivating oak mush room for 5 years showed basically same crystal structures with normal wood. Therefore, we think that the waste wood may be used available for cellulosic material instead of normal wood.
This study uses recycled green building materials based on a Taiwan-made recycled mineral admixture (including fly ash, slag, glass sand and rubber powder) as replacements for fine aggregates in concrete and tests the properties of the resulting mixtures. Fine aggregate contents of 5% and 10% were replaced by waste LCD glass sand and waste tire rubber powder, respectively. According to ACI concrete-mixture design, the above materials were mixed into lightweight aggregate concrete at a constant water-to-binder ratio (W/B = 0.4). Hardening (mechanical), non-destructive and durability tests were then performed at curing ages of 7, 28, 56 and 91 days and the engineering properties were studied. The results of these experiments showed that, although they vary with the type of recycling green building material added, the slumps of these admixtures meet design requirements. Lightweight aggregate yields better hardened properties than normal-weight concrete, indicating that green building materials can be successfully applied in lightweight aggregate concrete, enabling an increase in the use of green building materials, the improved utilization of waste resources, and environmental protection. In addition to representing an important part of a "sustainable cycle of development", green building materials represent a beneficial reutilization of waste resources.
