Background: Anogenital warts (AGWs) are common results of sexually transmitted infection (STI). Human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6 and 11, which are non-oncogenic types, account for 90% of the clinical manifestations. Although the quadrivalent HPV vaccine has been launched, AGW remains prevalent in some countries and shows association with abnormal cervical cytology. Objectives: To study the prevalence of abnormal cervical cytology (low grade squamous intraepithelial lesions or worse; LSIL+) in immunocompetent Thai women newly presenting with external AGWs. Materials and Methods: Medical charts of all women attending Siriraj STI clinic during 2007-2011 were reviewed. Only women presenting with external AGWs who were not immunocompromised (pregnant, human immunodeficiency virus positive or being on immunosuppressant drugs) and had not been diagnosed with cervical cancer were included into the study. Multivariate analysis was used to determine the association between the characteristics of the patients and those of AGWs and LSIL+. Results: A total of 191 women were eligible, with a mean age of $27.0{\pm}8.9$ years; and a mean body mass index of $20.6{\pm}8.9kg/m^2$. Half of them finished university. The most common type of AGWs was exophytic (80.1%). The posterior fourchette appeared to be the most common affected site of the warts (31.9%), followed by labia minora (26.6%) and mons pubis (19.9%). The median number of lesions was 3 (range 1-20). Around 40% of them had recurrent warts within 6 months after completing the treatment. The prevalence of LSIL+ at the first visit was 16.3% (LSIL 12.6%, ASC-H 1.1%, HSIL 2.6%). After adjusting for age, parity and miscarriage, number of warts ${\geq}5$ was the only factor associated with LSIL+(aOR 2.65, 95%CI 1.11-6.29, p 0.027). Conclusions: LSIL+ is prevalent among immunocompetent Thai women presenting with external AGWs, especially those with multiple lesions.
Objective: A case report of wart patient treated with Ortho-cellular Nutritional Therapy. Methods: A 95-year-old Korean male with a large wart measuring more than 1cm in diameter, experiencing no pain but discomfort in daily life. Results: After 50 days of applying nutritional therapy, the wart completely disappeared. Conclusion: The application of nutritional therapy can soften the hardened tissue of warts and aid in the treatment process.
We report the case of an 18-year-old woman with a 6-year history of widespread facial plane warts that had proved resistant to repeated treatments with laser therapy and imiquimod cream. The patient had recurrent lesions, which subsequently resolved with treatment. We diagnosed the case as heat and blood stasis and qi deficiency damp stagnation. Treatment with herb medication and herbal external wet dressing was initiated. During the 4-month treatment period, the warts resolved gradually. At 4 months follow up, there were no recurrent lesions and no other adverse effects.
Micromorphology of the vessel wall sculptures such as perforation plate, inter-vessel pits, vessel-ray pits, vessel-parenchyma pits, vestured pits, spiral thickening, and warts was observed in 78 species(45 genera, 25 families) of Korean hardwoods using a scanning electron microscopy. The SEM observation revealed the micromorphology of vessel wall sculptures which have not yet been described, and have confirmed findings already established at the light microscopical level.
On the basis of the fact that the pycnidiospore of Botryosphaeria dothidea, the causal fungus of apple white rot is a typical water borne spore, a method for quantitative analysis of pycnidiospore dispersal from the warts produced on the diseased apple tree stem was developed. The warts on which cracks developed either on or around them were cut off at the base, and shaked in the water for 4hours at 2$0^{\circ}C$, in which condition the maximum number of spores were released. The volume of shaking solution was calculated as 1 ml per one wart. At the end of shaking, Trio, a household detergent was added to the shaking solution to the concentration of 0.1%, and shaked for additional 10 minutes at 35$^{\circ}C$ to take off the spores attached on the glass ware. One milliliter of the spore suspension thus prepared were passed through transparent membrane filter (pore size : 3.0 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$), and the spores attached on the filter were counted under a microscope ($\times$200) after staining them with lactophenol supplemented with aniline blue. The results thus obtained were statistically consistent when at least 30 warts were used simultaneously in single shaking. This method can be applicable in the elucidation of ecology of sporulation and spore dispersal, and also in the screening of the sporulation inhibitor which can be used in the control of the disease by reducing the inoculum density.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to review Korean and Western medical papers on wart treatment. Methods : We searched papers published until 2015 via OASIS and KISS with the keyword "wart". In particular, OASIS is for searching Korean medicine and KISS for Western medicine articles. We exclude results that are inconsistent with established criteria. Results : The total number of papers on wart treatment in korean medicine was 10, and it includes 7 case studies, 2 original research article and 1 statistical analysis. The ones in Western medicine was 42 and it consists of 27 origianl research articles, 10 case studies, 4 comparative studies and 1 clinical study. 'Flat wart' accounts for 50.0% and it made up the biggest portion of the type of warts in Korean medicine, while the percentage of 'various warts' was 40.5% in Western medicine. 'Herbal medicine' accounts for 10(100.0%) and it made up the biggest portion of the the type of treatment in Korean medicine, while the percentage of 'cryo therapy' was 7(16.7%) in Western medicine. The various types of treatment are more introduced on Western than on Korean medicine papers. However, therapy suggested by Western medicine has more side effects than the one introduced by Korean medicine. Conclusions : We hope this article would encourage further research on treatment for warts in Korean medicine.
A number of epidemiological studies have identified human papillomavirus (HPV) types 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 10, 27, 57, and 65 in cutaneous common warts. However, identification of the HPV subtype by conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is time consuming with its multi-step laboratory process. In this study, we aim to develop a specific one-step multiplex polymerase chain reaction method which capably identifies six different HPV genotypes related to common warts. By HPV DNA sequence analysis, 6 pairs of specific primers were designed from the intergenic regions of genes L1 to E6, and from genes E2 to L2. DNA sequence analysis with the L1 gene sequence of the sample was performed to measure the specificity of multiplex PCR. HPV-1, -2, -3, -4, -27, and -57 were identified without cross amplification in 109 out of 129 samples. The sensitivity and specificity of our set of primers in detecting HPV were 85% and 99.5%, respectively. For the 20 samples where HPV type was not identifiable by our batch of primer sets, multiplex PCR with an additional set of HPV primers was done, where 7 were found positive for HPV-7 or -65. Our results demonstrate that the newly designed multiplex PCR can rapidly detect the specific HPV subtype involved in common warts with high accuracy.
Two litonotid ciliates collected from the freshwater habitats in Korea were identified as Loxophyllum meleagris ($M\ddot{u}ller$, 1773) and Siroloxophyllum utriculariae (Penard, 1922). The description was based on the observation of living and protargol impregnated specimens, and biometric analysis. Their diagnostic characteristics are as follows. L. meleagris; $163-480\times80-100{\mu}m$ in vivo, body shape lancet or knife-like; dorsal margin with 10-19 extrusome warts; 8-35 macronuclei nodules, like a string of bead; 16-21 somatic kineties on right side (including perioral kinety 2, 3) and 6-11 on left side (including perioral kinety 1); 1 contractile vacuole located at posterior part at diastole stage, extending along the dorsal margin toward anterior end with a single long narrow canal. S. utriculariae; $110-170\times78-150{\mu}m$ in vivo, body shape lancet like; dorsal margin without extrusome warts; 2 macronuclei, spherical; 12-19 somatic kineties on right side, 3-7 on left side (including perioral kinety 1); 2-3 contractile vacuoles, first one located anterior ventrally, second one located posterior dorsally and last one located near posterior end of cell.
