최종사용자 집단 특성을 조절변수로 도입하는 경우 데이터 웨어하우징 성공요인에 관한 연구 (An Empirical Study on Success Factors of Data Warehousing Considering End User Community Characteristics as Moderating Variable)

  • This study empirically examined the effects of 12 factors on the success of data warehousing. We also introduced the characteristics of end-user community as moderating variables. Several hypotheses were set up to identify the relationships among these variables. And the survey instrument(questionnaire) was developed to collect data. Ultimately 183 questionnaires from 61 korean firms were collected. Findings showed that 9 factors affect positive effect on the success of data warehousing. Also the characteristics of end-user community can be considered significant moderating variables between success factors and success of data warehousing.

  • 데이터 웨어하우징(Data Warehousing, DW) 개념이 탄생한 1970년대는 미국 유통 대기업 월마트가 폭증한 데이터베이스를 좀 더 효율적으로 보고자 했던 시기와 맞닿아 있다. 그러나 지금까지 월마트의 데이터 관리에 관한 논의는 대부분 생산관리, 재고관리 등 운영 측면이 강조되어 왔고 데이터 자체에 대한 관심은 상대적으로 적었다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 데이터베이스에 관한 기술적인 개념을 먼저 아우른 뒤 월마트의 데이터 웨어하우징 프로젝트 사례를 구축 전(준비)-구축(실행)-구축 후(평가) 단계로 나누어 분석하였다. 본 연구는 월마트가 데이터 웨어하우징을 진행하면서 조직에서 지속적으로 발생하는 문제를 어떻게 해결하였는지, 그리고 데이터 관리를 통해 어떻게 전사적인 공헌을 이룩하였는지에 초점이 맞추어져 있다. 산업을 막론하고 전 세계적으로 가장 큰 데이터베이스를 가지고 있는 월마트의 사례를 현재의 관점에서 다시 살펴봄으로써 최근 재조명되고 있는 (빅)데이터 이슈와도 연결점을 찾을 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

Implementing Data warehouse Methodology Architecture: From Metadata Perspective

  • Recently, many enterprises have attempted to construct data warehousing systems for decision-support. Data warehouse is an intelligent store of data that can aggregate vast amounts of information. Building DW requires two important development issues:(i) DW for the decision making of business users and (ii) metadata within it. Most DW development methodologies have not considered metadata development; it is necessary to adopt a DW development methodology which develops a DW and its metadata simultaneously. Metadata is a key to success of data warehousing system and is critical for implementing DW. That is, metadata is crucial documentation for a data warehousing system where users should be empowered to meet their own information needs; users need to know what data exists, what it represents, where it is located, and how to access it. Furthermore, metadata is used for extracting data and managing DW. However, metadata has failed because its management has been segregated from the DW development process. Metadata must be integrated with data warehousing systems. Without metadata, the decision support of DW is under the control of technical users. Therefore, integrating data warehouse with its metadata offers a new opportunity to create a more adaptive information system. Therefore, this paper proposes a DW development methodology from a metadata perspective. The proposed methodology consists of five phases: preparatory, requirement analysis, data warehouse (informational database) development, metastore development, and maintenance. Qualitative Research on Decisive Issues of Halal Logistics In India

  • Purpose - The paper aims to explore the critical and uncover issues encountered to the supply-chain companies in launching halal based services in India. Research design, data, and methodology - After a meticulous review of relevant literature on the halal concept and halal logistics, researchers involved in a data collection by conducting semi-structured focus group interviews. Four groups with a maximum of 5 members each have chosen from the areas of transportation, warehousing, certification, and packaging. A total of 20 questionnaires were collected by applying purposive sampling method. Results - More than 95 percent of the chosen focus groups agreed that they know only about halal but don't have any exposure to halal logistics. The discussion has revealed that the adoption rate for halal transportation, warehousing, halal certification, and packaging is almost zero. The respondents were chosen only from transportation, warehousing, certification and packaging companies from south India which are operating throughout India. This research never attempts to be acquainted with the opinions of channel members who directly or indirectly involved in meeting customer demands. Conclusions - This is a ground-breaking effort aimed to study the critical issues related to Indian halal logistics which is beneficial to both logistic companies as well as to the academic world.

  • Marketing decision support systems rely on an underlying enterprise information infrastructure. In traditional business situations, a limited number of product lines and markets divided into large chunks were adequately served by existing management information systems. With the advent of an increasingly segmented focus on niche markets and individual customers, the demand for market information has grown exponentially. The practical solutions offered by such data warehousing tools as OLAP and data mining directly address this need, allowing organizations to discover new niches. Marketing decision support systems built on these foundations provide organizations with new avenues for creating specifically targeted marketing strategies and promotional campaigns. The contribution of this article lies in introducing a graphical framework for data warehousing applications. Based on prior research, the framework links data warehousing and database marketing. To illustrate the effectiveness of this approach, three case examples of successful database marketing conclude the paper.

Space Optimization for Warehousing Problem: A Methodology for Decision Support System

  • This article presents a way of tackling a special class of space optimization problems that arise in a number of practical applications in industry and elsewhere. It presents an elegant solution to a problem that was considered by (Das, 2005) in optimizing storage space in warehouse of a footwear manufacturing company. In (Das, 2005), the problem was formulated as a nonlinear programming problem. In this article, it is shown that the problem can be formulated as a generalized transportation problem which is a special case of generalized network flow problems. Further, an elegant scheme is devised to handle the dynamic situation of warehousing problem which can be easily translated into a decision support system for the warehouse management system. Also, the article points out certain obscurities and gaps in (Das, 2005).

  • It is far more expensive for companies to acquire new customers than it is to retain customers. As a result, companies are turning to Customer Relationship Management (CRM) in order to make decisions about managing the relationship and the profitability of those customer relationships. CRM is a strategy that integrates the concepts of Knowledge Management, Data Mining and Data Warehousing in order to support the organization's decision -making process to retain long-term and profitable relationships with its customers. This paper examines the design implications that CRM poses to data warehousing. We then present a robust data warehouse schema to support CRM analyses and decisions. For example, the proposed schema could be used to calculate customer profitability and to identify social networks of influence between customers. The paper also discusses future areas for research pertaining to CRM data warehousing and data mining.

  • Many enterprises continue to have an interest in the usage of new information technologies to gain a competitive advantage. In particular, their interest in the data warehouse and the data mining reveals the aspect of such a trend. Although lots of vendors announce a variety of tools for data warehousing, many a enterprise have a difficulty in building a robust data warehouse due to the lack of the ability of selecting an appropriate data warehouse technology options. Therefore, this study presents some evaluation factors, evaluation methods, and evaluation results about ETT tools, mainly in terms of a comparative test for the current available data warehousing ETT tools, Also, this paper suggests some guides about choosing the right ETT tools.

  • In this paper, Intelligent PLC for automatic warehousing system is presented. Intelligent PLC is that general PLC is incorporate the knowledge and experience of Expert and control method. This system is consist of sensor part, inference part and automatic warehousing robot part. this system recognize the Work by itself and move it to the appointed place according to the inference rule. The PLC program is constructed by LD(ladder diagram). Real test system was constructed and was driven to apply this program.
