  • We report high pressure synthesis of Sr$_{0.9}$Sm$_{0.1}$CuO$_2$. Powder x-ray diffraction showed that the synthesized compounds have infinite layer structure as a major component. Slow heating at the first stage of heating processes after pressurization resulted in several larger grains. The largest grain was found to have the longest edge length of about 100 micrometer. Through magnetic property measurement in superconducting state, we found that pinning in this compound has substantial difference from that of La doped infinite layer, which has no unpaired spin at Sr site.

  • Electromagnetic properties of $CeO_2$ doped and undoped YBaCuO superconductors were evaluated to investigate the effect of pinning center on the magnetization and magnetic shielding. The variation $\DeltaM$ with doping was maximum for 3% doping and decrease with further doping. The magnetic shielding was evaluated by measuring the induced voltage in secondary coil and the voltage initially set to 0.5V, decreased to 0.17V and 0.28V respectively for the undoped and 3% $CeO_2$ doped sample. The much less change in the induced voltage for the 3% doped sample is attributed to the increased flux shielding by shielding vortex current. The $CeO_2$ was converted to fine $BaCeO_3$ particles which were trapped in YBaCuO superconductor during the reaction sintering. The trapped fine particles, $BaCeO_3$ may be acted as a flux pinning center.

  • Superconducting flux flow transistor (SFFT) is based on a control of the Abrikosov vortex flowing along a channel. The induced voltage by moving of the Abrikosov vortex in an SFFT is greatly affected by the thickness, the width, and the length of channel. In order to fabricate a reproducible channel in the SFFT, we studied the variation of the critical characteristics of ${YBa}_2{Cu}_3{O}_7-\delta(YBCO)$ thin films with the etching time using ICP (Inductively coupled plasma) system. From the simulation, it was certified that the vortex velocity was increased in a low pinning energy at channel width 0,5 mm. The surfaces of YBCO thin film were etched by ICP etching system. We observed the etched channel surfaces by AFM (Atomic Force Microscope) and measured the critical current density with etching time. As a measured results, the etching thickness of channel should be optimized to fabricated a flux flow transistor with specified characteristics.

  • $^{11}B$ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements have been performed to investigate electronic structures and vortex states of $M_gB_2$ superconductor. The central transition shows a narrow peak down to 25 K at 3.15 T. Below 25 K, an extra line starts to show up and dominates. The extra line is broad and asymmetric with a long tail in the high frequency side, which confirms that this originates from vortex pinning below the irreversibility temperature. From temperature evolution of the fraction and linewidth of the broad portion, temperature dependence of coherence length and penetration depth are extracted.

  • The high-temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) have attached attentions because of a high superconducting transition temperature, low surface resistance, high superconducting critical current density (Jc), and superior superconducting capability under magnetic field. Moreover, the Jc of YBCO superconductors can be enhanced by adding impurities to the YBCO films for vortex-pinning. Understanding and controlling pinning centers are key factors to realize high Jc superconductors. We synthesized vertically-aligned ZnO nanorods on SrTiO3 (STO) substrates by catalyst-free metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), and subsequently, deposited YBCO films on the ZnO nanorods/STO templates using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). The various techniques were used to analyze the structural and interfacial properties of the YBCO/ZnO nanorods/STO hybrid structures. SEM, TEM, and XRD measurements demonstrated that YBCO films on ZnO nanorods/STO were well crystallized with the (001) orientation. EXAFS measurements from YBCO/ZnO nanorods/STO at Cu K edge demonstrated that the local structural properties around Cu atoms in YBCO were quite similar to those of YBCO/STO.

  • We investigate the effect of thermal annealing on $MgB_2$ thin films with thicknesses of 400 and 800 nm, irradiated by 350 keV C-ions with a dose of $1{\times}10^{15}atoms/cm^2$. Irradiation by low-energy C-ions produces atomic lattice displacement in $MgB_2$ thin films, improving magnetic field performance of critical current density ($J_c$) while reducing the superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$). Interestingly, the lattice displacement and the $T_c$ are gradually restored to the original values with increasing thermal annealing temperature. In addition, the magnetic field dependence of $J_c$ also returns to that of the pristine state together with the restoration of $T_c$. Because $J_c$(H) is sensitive to the type and density of the disorder, i.e. vortex pinning, the recovery of $J_c$(H) in irradiated $MgB_2$ thin films by thermal annealing indicates that low-energy C-ion irradiation on $MgB_2$ thin films primarily causes lattice displacement. These results provide new insights into the application of low-energy irradiation in strategically engineering critical properties of superconductors.
