The paper discusses numerical analysis of tensile notched specimens with the use of Gurson - Tvergaard - Needleman (GTN) material model. The analysis concerned S235JR and S355J2G3 steel grades, subjected to medium stress state triaxiality ratio, amounting 0.739. A complete procedure for FEM model preparation was described, paying special attention to the issue of determining material constants in the GTN model. An example of critical void volume fraction ($f_c$) experimental determination procedure was presented. Finally, the results of numerical analyses were discussed, indicating the differences between steel grades under investigation.

To demonstrate the applicability of RELAP5 to the prediction of the onset offlooding in the hot leg at the reflux condensation phase during mid-loop operation, numerical analysis is performed for the counter-current flow in a horizontal pipe with the inclined riser using the RELAP5/MOD3.2.2b code. It is found that the RELAP5, simulating the CCFL phenomena using interfacial friction along with the flow regime map in the horizontal pipe, produces unsatisfactory results. Under the CCFL condition, it is observed that large oscillation exists in the flow rate, void fraction, and etc. and the liquid flow rate is much lower than that predicted by the CCFL model measured in the experiment. The CCFL model of RELAP5 for the vertical volume is extended to the model for the horizontal and inclined volumes. The horizontal volume flow regime map and interfacial friction model coupled to the CCFL model are modified. And a new correlation developed from Kang's experiment is implemented to the CCFL model of RELAP5. With this modified RELAP5, the analysis of CCFL phenomena in the horizontal pipe and hot leg geometry is performed, and produces reasonable results in comparison with experimental data.
This article presents a study on the tensile properties of hypoeutectoid steels with different ferrite-pearlite microstructures. Nine kinds of hypoeutectoid steel specimens were fabricated by varying carbon content and isothermal transformation temperature. The microstructural factors such as ferrite & pearlite fraction, interlamellar spacing, and cementite thickness were quantitatively measured and then tensile tests were carried out on the specimens in order to investigate the correlation of the microstructural factors with strength and ductility. The pearlite volume fraction usually increased with decreasing transformation temperature, while the pearlite interlamellar spacing and cementite thickness decreased mostly with decreasing transformation temperature, irrespective of carbon content. The tensile test results showed that the yield and tensile strengths of all the steel specimens increased and their ductility was also improved as the transformation temperature decreased. For the steel specimens investigated, the difference in the transformation temperature dependence of strength and ductility could be explained by the fact that the variation in pearlite fraction with transformation temperature noticeably affected various microstructural factors such as pearlite interlamellar spacing and cementite thickness associated with pearlite fracture mechanism such as void initiation, cementite necking, and cracking.
It was observed that the hot-water extract of the bark of Kalopanax pictus N. had the highest anti-complementary activity among the 11 kinds of forest materials. Methanol-and ethanol-soluble portions had low anti-complementary activities, but crude polysaccharide. HKP-0 had a high activity of 80%. HKP-0 contained 54.8% of total sugar and 27.9% of protein. The neutral sugars of HKP-0 consisted of mainly arabinose, galactose and glucose. HKP-4 fraction obtained by cetavlon treatment of HKP-0 showed the highest anti-complementary activity of 90%. The activity was not changed by pronase digestion bu decreased greatly by periodate oxidation. HKP-4 consisted of mainly arabinose and glucose with molar ratio of 1.0 : 22.4, HKP-4-I, an unabsorbed fraction from HKP-4 on DEAE Sepharose CL-6B column showed higher yield and activity than those of absorbed fractions. HKP-4-I was homogeneous, and its molecular weight was about 25,000. HKP-4-I contained 84.0% of neutral sugar and consisted of arabinose and glucose with molar ratio of 1.0 : 11.2. The anti-complementary activity of HKP-4-I was not decreased by the treatment of polymyxin B, and the polysaccharide activated both classical and alternative pathway in complement system. Void volume fraction obtained from HKP-4-I hydrolyzed with ${\alpha}$-amylase on Sephadex G-25 column only had a high anti-complementary activity.
The circular and flat heat pipe were experimentally investigated by using neutron imaging technique. This experimental study was performed at the DINGO of OPAL research reactor, Australia. The diameter of the circular heat pipe is 10 mm and the dimension of flat is $10(width){\times}3(thickness)mm2$, respectively. We used the distilled water as a coolant. The coolant distributions and 2-phase flow patterns were measured under heating conditions. Experimental results show that neutron imaging technique is a good tool to visualize the 2-phase flow and phenomena in the heat pipe. The coolant distributions and 2-phase flow patterns depend on installation posture of the heat pipe and volume ratio of the coolant. Finally, it was discussed to calculate the void fraction by neutron imaging technique.
The monolayer engineering diamond particles are aligned on the oxygen free Cu plates with electroless Ni plating layer. The mean diamond particle sizes of 15, 23 and $50{\mu}m$ are used as thermal conductivity pathway for fabricating metal/carbon multi-layer composite material systems. Interconnected void structure of irregular shaped diamond particles allow dense electroless Ni plating layer on Cu plate and fixing them with 37-43% Ni thickness of their mean diameter. The thermal conductivity decrease with increasing measurement temperature up to $150^{\circ}C$ in all diamond size conditions. When the diamond particle size is increased from $15{\mu}m$ to $50{\mu}m$ (Max. 304 W/mK at room temperature) tended to increase thermal conductivity, because the volume fraction of diamond is increased inside plating layer.
Flow of electrically conducting nanofluids is of pivotal importance in countless industrial and medical appliances. Fluctuations in thermophysical properties of such fluids due to variations in temperature have not received due attention in the available literature. Present investigation aims to fill this void by analyzing the flow of copper-water nanofluid with temperature dependent viscosity past a Riga plate. Strong wall suction and viscous dissipation have also been taken into account. Numerical solutions for the resulting nonlinear system have been obtained. Results are presented in the graphical and tabular format in order to facilitate the physical analysis. An estimated expression for skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number are obtained by performing linear regression on numerical data for embedded parameters. Results indicate that the temperature dependent viscosity alters the velocity as well as the temperature of the nanofluid and is of considerable importance in the processes where high accuracy is desired. Addition of copper nanoparticles makes the momentum boundary layer thinner whereas viscosity parameter does not affect the boundary layer thickness. Moreover, the regression expressions indicate that magnitude of rate of change in effective skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number with respect to nanoparticles volume fraction is prominent when compared with the rate of change with variable viscosity parameter and modified Hartmann number.

This paper first reviews the physical meanings and the expressions of two representative strain rate models: CSM (Cowper-Symonds Model) and JCM (Johnson-Cook Model). Since it is known that the CSM and the JCM are suitable for low-intermediate and intermediate-high rate ranges, many studies regarding marine accidents such as ship collision/grounding and explosion in FPSO have employed the CSM. A formula to predict the material constant of the CSM is introduced from literature survey. Numerical simulations with two different material constitutive equations, classical metal plasticity model based on von Mises yield function and micromechanical porous plasticity model based on Gurson yield function, have been carried out for the stiffened plates under impact loading. Simulation results coincide with experimental results better when using the porous plasticity model.
In this study, carbon fiber/epoxy (CF/EP) composites were interleaved with aramid nonwoven veils with an areal weight density of $8.5g/m^2$ to improve their Mode-I fracture toughness. The control and aramid interleaved CF/EP composite laminates were manufactured by VARTM in a [0]4 configuration. Tensile, three-point bending, compression, interlaminar shear, Charpy impact and Mode-I (DCB) fracture toughness values were determined to evaluate the effects of aramid nonwoven fabrics on the mechanical performance of the CF/EP composites. Thermomechanical behavior of the specimens was investigated by Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA). The results showed that the propagation Mode-I fracture toughness values of CF/EP composites can be significantly improved (by about 72%) using aramid nonwoven fabrics. It was found that the main extrinsic toughening mechanism is aramid microfiber bridging acting behind the crack-tip. The incorporation of these nonwovens also increased interlaminar shear and Charpy impact strength by 10 and 16.5%, respectively. Moreover, it was revealed that the damping ability of the composites increased with the incorporation of aramid nonwoven fabrics in the interlaminar region of composites. On the other hand, they caused a reduction in in-plane mechanical properties due to the reduced carbon fiber volume fraction, increased thickness and void formation in the composites.

The specific reaction of trypsin inhibitors with trypsin to form stable complexes was successfully applied for detection of trypsin inhibitors in soybean. Soybean extract was treated with $Ca^{++}$ to remove globulin fraction, followed by digestion with trypsin and fractionated by chromatography on Sephadex G-50. The void volume fraction contained the trypsin-trypsin inhibitor complexes as well as trypsin. The trypsin inhibitors were then detected by their molecular weight differences on SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, in which the complexes dissociate into trypsin and its inhibitors. With the method proposed, trypsin inhibitors were indentified by their ability forming the stable complexes with trypsin and their anti-tryptic moiety. The formation of the complexes with trypsin was further confirmed by two dimensional electrophoresis and DEAE-Sephadex A-25 chromatography. Employing the proposed method, it was found that soybean (Glycine max cv. Hill) contained 7 trypsin inhibitors.
