  • This paper presents a pricing model for maximizing a service provider's profit, taking into account consumers' quality-of-service dependent willingness to pay, in integrated voice/data mobile services. For the voice and the data services, time-sensitive pricing and volume-sensitive pricing mechanism will be applied, respectively, as in the case of Korea's mobile service market. Assuming that consumers are very sensitive to call interruption during handoff moments, the model presented here considers reserving guard channels exclusively for handoff traffic, in the process of frequency channels allocation, as well as guaranteeing consumers quality of service regarding call interruption rate. Ultimately, this model proposes a means to guarantee the quality of service in the short term, through pricing strategies as well as channel allocation policies, and the simulation results show that without expanding system resources, there exists a trade-off between profit and quality-of-service guarantee.

  • GRBAS scale, the tool fir the perceptual evaluation of voice, demands the experience of judges, and MDVP parameters of CSL, the tool for the objective measurements of voice quality demands the exact interpretation of the analyzed results. The two tools should be used as compensatory evaluation methods, so the experimental study was performed to investigate the correlation between GRBAS scales and MDVP parameters by using the pathologic voice of the 30 patients with vocal polyps, and to know the significant MDVP parameters which the inexperienced GRBAS scale judges should attend to. The 30 subjects voices, saved in MDVP of CSL were analyzed by its own analysis program, and three experienced voice therapists judged the same voices by using GRBAS scales. The correlations between them were analyzed by Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient. As results, among the 29 MDVP parameters, 22 parameters showed statistically significant correlation with Grade(G) scale(p<0.05). And it was found that Roughness(R) scale showed significant correlation with 18 parameters, Breathiness(B) scale with 17 parameters, Strain(S) scale with 12 parameters. In Asthenicity(A) scale, no parameter showed significant correlation. On the whole, significantly high correlation were found in the parameters related with pitch ind amplitude perturbation, especially, the amplitude perturbation.

  • The elderly are at increased risk of developing dysphagia due to aging and illnesses. The aim of the current study was to analyze, via an acoustic study, the change in the voice quality of normal elderly people after a 3oz water-swallow test. Subjects included a group of 60 normal elderly people (age: $mean{\pm}SD=76.9{\pm}6.66$) and 60 healthy young adults (age: $mean{\pm}SD=25.1{\pm}2.36$). Every participant produced a five-second /a/ phonation pre- and post-swallowing, and the fractioned two-second sections were analyzed using the MDVP (multi dimensional voice program) analysis. The elderly group demonstrated a post-swallowing increase in the following related acoustic parameters: fundamental frequency, fundamental frequency variation, amplitude-variation, and noise in both two-second sections. However, the younger group showed an increase only in frequency related acoustic parameters (i.e., STD ) in the first two-second section. The significant changes in values in the post-swallowing parameters might indicate temporary irregularities in pitch and amplitude along with higher amounts of noise in the voice. The results could be attributed to water residues in the vocal fold and vocal tract, as well as a deterioration of the motor and sensory functions caused by anatomical and physiological changes that result from aging.

  • In the present study, we investigated ability of recognition of auditory perception with regards to the quality of voice in postlingual CI adults and proposed a training program to improve within subject reliability. A prospective case-control study was conducted in adults with 7 postlingual deaf who received a CI surgery and 10 normal hearing controls. The pre and post test and training program included parameters of consensus auditory-perceptual evaluation of voice(CAPE-V) with pathological voice sample by using Alvin. In results of pre-post test for monitoring improvements of internal reliability for listeners via the training program, there was statistically significant difference in both test and group. There was statistically significant difference in internal reliability between pre-post test in the normal hearing group, the result was no significant in the CI group. The present study found that CI adults showed less ability in awareness of voice quality compared to normal hearing group. Also the training program improved pitch and loudness in CI adults.

  • The present study was performed to investigate change in shimmer according to $F_{0}$ variation precisely, and to offer suggestions for a clinical application. The analysis for the present study was done by the fundamental frequency ($F_{0}$) and shimmer measurement results of the previous 120 Korean normal adults' voice study of Pyo et al. (2002), used three vowels, /i/, /a/, /and /u/. Through the analysis of 60 female samples from the previous study, we found that $F_{0}$ of the vowels was the highest in /u/, and the lowest in /a/, but, on the contrary, shimmer was highest in /a/and lowest in /u/. Thirty of 60 subjects showed such an inverse relationship between $F_{0}$ and shimmer, as a whole. In the vowel /a/, 47 of 60 subjects showed the increased $F_{0}$ and decreased shimmer, in /i/, 32 subjects, and in /u/, 33 subjects showed the same results. The decrease in shimmer means the improvement of voice quality, so by these results, we expect to answer the question why the patients with spasmodic dysphonia can improve their voice quality with increased pitched voice production.

  • We analyze a voice/data integrated traffic model of the cellular mobile communication system with hybrid guard channels for voice and handoff calls. In a multi-service integrated wireless environment, quality of service guarantee is crucial for smooth transportation of real time information. Real time voice traffic requires a guaranteed upper bounded on both delay and packet error rate, whereas data traffic does not. Voice traffic has high transmission priority over data packets. Thus one of the important problems is the design of admission control schemes which can efficiently accommodate the differential quality of service requirements. In this paper, a hybrid guard channel scheme is considered in which arriving calls are assigned channels as long as the number of busy channels in the cell is below a predetermined first threshold. When the number of busy channels reaches the first threshold, new originating data calls are queued in the infinite data buffer. Then reaches second threshold, only handoff calls are assigned the remaining channels and new originating voice calls are blocked. We evaluate the system by a two-dimensional Markov chain approach and generating function method and obtain performance measures included blocking probability and forced termination probability.

  • As the range of professional voice users are expanding, interest towards voice increases as well. Especially as teachers compose the occupational group, exposed to high risk of voice disorder, it is necessary to identify the cause of speech problems and speech disorders. The purpose of this study is to analyze the voice characteristics of teachers and to investigate the causes of voice disorders. From 2000 to 2018, 414 studies were found under a combinated set search words of 'profession', 'Teacher', 'Professional Voice User', 'Voice', 'Voice disorders', 'Risk' and out of them, 8 studies were selected as final focus analysis subjects. The qualitative evaluation was carried out by modifying the Quality: checklist for assessing the Risk of bias. The study confirmed that voice misuse frequently occurred to teachers when they used their voice and this feature was affected by the environment. These results suggest that environment improvement of teachers' speech abuse and consistent voice education are necessary.

  • The quality of real-time voice communication over Internet Protocol networks based on telematics is affected by network impairments such as delays, jitters, and packet loss. To resolve this issue, this paper proposes a receiver-based enhancing method of VoIP speech quality. The proposed method enables users to deliver high-quality voice using playout control and signal reconstruction, which consists of concealment of lost packets, adaptive playout-buffer scheduling using active jitter estimation, and smooth interpolation between two signals in a transition region. The proposed algorithm achieves higher Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ) values and low buffering delay than the reference algorithm.

  • Objectives : To compare the objective differences in voice quality and voice problems between clergies and normal male control group. Materials and Methods : The sustained vowel sound of 46 clergies and 40 normal persons were analyzed, using a videostroboscopy and acoustic analyzer. Together with these analyses, a questionnaire associated with current and past voice problems was handed over to the patients. Results : The most common symptom in subjective group was the voice fatigue. Stroboscopic findings in subjective group were as following 23 cases(50%) of pachydermia, 17 cases(37%) of phase difference, 12 cases(25%) of anterior-posterior contracture, 6 cases(13%) of vocal polyp and 3 cases(7%) of vocal nodule. The mean maximal phonation time in clergies was 17.8 seconds and in control group was 19 seconds. litter, pitch perturbation quotient and shimmer were significantly increased in subjective group than in control group(p<0.05), but there were no significant differences between two groups in fundamental frequency, vFo, amplitude perturbation quotient and noise to harmonic ratio. Conclusion : In the clergies using loud and forceful voice, vocal polyp and functional voice disorder findings were frequently noted in stroboscopic examination. litter and shimmer, reflecting the roughness of voice, were increased in acoustic analysis. Therefore, clergies, classified into untrained professional voice users, need professional career guidance and counseling.
