Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are unmanned underwater vessels to investigate sea environments, oceanography and deep-sea resources autonomously. Docking systems are required to increase the capability of the AUVs to recharge the batteries and to transmit data in real time in underwater. This paper presents a visual servo control system for an AUV to dock into an underwater station with a camera. To make the visual servo control system , this paper derives an optical flow model of a camera mounted on an AUV, where a CCD camera is installed at the nose center of the AUV to monitor the docking condition. This paper combines the optical flow equation of the camera with the AUV's equation o...
Recently, research of visual control is getting more essential in robotic application, and acquiring 3D informations from the 2D images is becoming more important with development of vision system. For this application, we propose the effective way of controlling stereo vision tracking system for target tracking and calculating distance between target and camera. In this paper we address improved controller using dual-loop visual servo which is more effective compared with using single-loop visual servo for stereo vision tracking system. The speed and the accuracy for realizing a real time tracking are important. However, the vision processing speed is too slow to track object in real time by using only vision feedback data. So we use another feedback data from controller parts which offer state feedback ...

The Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO), the ocean engineering branch of KORDI, has designed and manufactured a model of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) to test underwater docking. This paper introduces the AUV model, ASUM, equipped with a visual servo control system to dock into an underwater station with a camera and motion sensors. To make a visual servoing AUV, this paper implemented the visual servo control system designed with an augmented state equation, which was composed of the optical flow model of a camera and the equation of the AUV's motion. The system design and the hardware configuration of ASUM are presented in this paper. A small long baseline acoustic positioning system was developed to monitor and record the AUV's position for the experiment in the Ocean Engineering Basin of KRISO, KORDI. ASUM recognizes the target position by processing the captured image for the lights, which are installed around the end of the cone-type entrance of the duct. Unfortunately, experiments are not yet conducted when we write this article. The authors will present the results for the docking test of the AUV in near future.
In this paper, we designed and implemented a precise pulse motor control chip that generates the parabolic speed pattern. This chip can control step motor[1], DC servo[2] and AC servo motors at high speed and precisely. It can reduce the mechanical vibration to the minimum at the change point of a degree of acceleration. Because the parabolic speed pattern has the continuous acceleration change. In this paper, we present the pulse generation algorithm and the parabolic pattern speed generation. We verify these algorithm using visual C++. We designed this chip with VHDL(Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language) and executed a logic simulation and synthesis using Synopsys synthesis tool. We executed the pre-layout simulation and post-layout simulation with Verilog-XL simulation tool. This chip was produced with 100 pins, PQFP package by 0.35 um CMOS process and implemented by completely digital logic. We developed the hardware test board and test program using visual C++. We verify the performance of this chip by driving the servo motor and the function by GUI(Graphic User Interface) environment.

A cutting machine for freeform hull surfaces of ship models is developed and a servo system is employed for tool path control. The servo system consists of BLDC(Blushless DC) motor, control driver and host controller. Also PI controller is applied for precision processing. GUI(Graphic User Interface) was realized by visual c++ for the convenience of users. Free form surfaces are formed by the cutting machine developed in the Ocean Engineering Wide Tank of the University of Ulsan.
We developed a visual system that is able to track the moving objects within a certain range of errors. The visual system is driven by two DC servo motors that are controlled by a computer based on the visual data obtained from a CCD video camera. The software to track the moving objects is developed based on the PWM of the DC motors. Also, the problems how to implement a fuzzy logic control method and a neural network in this system, are also considered in order to check the control performance of tracking. The fuzzy logic algorithm is a powerful control technique for nonlinear dynamical system and also the neural network could be implemented in this system. In this paper, we present configuration of tracking system developed in our laboratory, the control methods of the visual system and the experimental results are shown.
Recently visual servo control is an important feature of an intelligent robot system. In this paper, we presents a Kalman filter approach for estimation of the linear optic flow model which is utilized in the visual servoing of a mobile robot. The proposed method is also compared with the conventional least mean square method via computer simulation.

An underwater robotic system has been developed and applied to visual inspection of reactor vessel internals. The Korea Electric Power Robot for Visual Test (KeproVt) consists of an underwater robot, a vision processor-based measuring unit, a master control station and a servo control station. The robot guided by the control station with the measuring unit can be controlled to have any motion at any position in the reactor vessel with $\pm$1 cm positioning and $\pm$2 degrees heading accuracies with enough precision to inspect reactor internals. A simple and fast installation process is emphasized in the developed system. The developed robotic system was successfully deployed at the Younggwang Nuclear Unit 1 for the visual inspection of reactor internals.
The problem of establishing the servo system to reach the desired location keeping all features in the field of view and following a straight line is considered. In addition, robustness of camera calibration parameters is considered in this paper. The proposed approach is based on switching from position-based visual servoing (PBVS) to image-based visual servoing (IBVS) and allows the camera path to follow a straight line. To achieve the objective, a pose estimation method is required; the camera's target pose is estimated from the obtained images without the knowledge of the object. A switched control law moves the camera equipped to a robot end-effector near the desired location following a straight line in Cartesian space and then positions it to the desired pose with robustness to camera calibration error. Finally simulation results show the feasibility of the proposed visual servoing technique.

A better tracking performance can be achieved, if visual sensors such as CCD cameras are used in controling a robot manipulator, than when only relative sensors such as encoders are used. However, for precise visual servoing of a robot manipulator, an expensive vision system which has fast sampling rate must be used. Moreover, even if a fast vision system is implemented for visual servoing, one cannot get a reliable performance without use of robust and stable inner joint servo-loop. In this paper, we propose a dynamic control scheme for robot manipulators with eye-in-hand camera configuration, where a dynamic learning controller is designed to improve the tracking performance of robotic system. The proposed control scheme is implemented for tasks of tracking moving objects and shown to be robust to parameter uncertainty, disturbances, low sampling rate, etc.
