  • We conducted a fundamental study on geological and rock detection via drone-based hyperspectral imaging on various types of small rock samples and interpreted the obtained information to compare and classify rocks. Further, we performed hyperspectral imaging on ten rocks, and compared the peak data value and reflectance of rocks. Results showed a difference in the reflectance and data value of the rocks, indicating that the rock colors and minerals vary or the reflectance is different owing to the luster of the surface. Among the rocks, limestone used for hyperspectral imaging is grayish white, inverted rock contains various sizes and colors in the dark red matrix, and granite comprises colorless minerals, such as white, black, gray, and colored minerals, resulting in a difference in reflectance. The reflectance of the visible ray range in ten rocks was 16.00~85.78%, in the near infrared ray range, the average reflectance was 23.94~86.43%, the lowest in basalt and highest in marble in both cases. This is because of the pores in basalt, which caused the difference in reflectance.

  • The essential requirement of a material to be used for engineering purposes at nuclear establishments is its ability to attenuate the most penetrating ionizing radiations, gamma $({\gamma})-rays$. Mostly, high-Z materials such as heavy concrete, lead, mercury, and their mixtures or alloys have been used in the construction of nuclear establishments and thus termed as nuclear engineering materials (NEM). The NEM are classified into two categories, namely opaque and transparent, depending on their behavior towards the visible spectrum of EM waves. The majority of NEM are opaque. By contrast, various types of glass, which are transparent to visible light, are necessary at certain places in the nuclear establishments. In the present study, ${\gamma}-ray$ shielding behaviors (GSB) of six glass samples (transparent NEM) were evaluated and compared with some opaque NEM in a wide range of energy (15 keV-15 MeV) and optical thickness (OT). The study was performed by computing various ${\gamma}-ray$ shielding parameters (GSP) such as the mass attenuation coefficient, equivalent atomic number, and buildup factor. A self-designed and validated computer-program, the buildup factor-tool, was used for various computations. It has been established that some glass samples show good GSB, thus can safely be used in the construction of nuclear establishments in conjunction with the opaque NEM as well.

  • The eyes can register color oscillations and that colors have an effect on the psyche. Human is constantly surrounded by an immense range of vibrations to which he must react and respound. And the skin can be compared to an antenna which amplifies information received from the outside and then passes it on to the inside. Therefore the art of many medicines make use of the skin as a medium of treatment. Peter mandel discovered centers, or zones, on the human body, which represent or correspond to the three primary colors(red, blue and yellow). And he came across to the four temperaments(or humors) and their respective colors, which consist of the primary colors with the addition of green.

  • Silver(I) [bis(alkylthio)methylene]malonates were synthesized from the reaction of silver nitrate and potassium [bis(alkylthio)methylene]malonates. The structures of the Ag complexes were characterized with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and elemental analysis. Ag nanoparticles (NPs) were obtained from the decomposition of the Ag complexes in 1,2-dichlorobenzene at $110^{\circ}C$ without an additional surfactant. The average sizes of the Ag NPs are in the range of 5.1-6.3 nm and could be controlled by varying the length of the alkyl chain. The optical properties, crystalline structure and surface composition of Ag NPs were characterized with ultraviolet-visible (UV-visible) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA).

  • The material that is both conductive in electricity and transparent to the visible-ray is called transparent conducting thin film. It has many field of application such as solar cell, liquid crystal display, transparent electrical heater, selective optical filter, and a optical electric device. In this study, indium tin oxide (ITO ; Sn-doped $In_2O_3$) thin films were deposited on $SiO_2$/soda-lime glass plates by a dc magnetron sputtering technique. The crystallinity and electrical properties of the films were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM) scanning and 4-point probe. The optical transmittance of ITO films in the range of 300-1000nm were measured with a spectrophotometer. As a result, we obtained polycrystalline structured ITO films with (222), (400), and (440) peak. Transmittance of all the films were higher than 90% in the visible range.

  • We report the facile synthesis of graphene-$CdLa_2S_4$ composite through a facile solvothermal method at low temperature. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis and BET analysis, revealing the uniform covering of the graphene nanosheet with $CdLa_2S_4$ nanocrystals. The as-prepared samples show a higher efficiency for the photocatalytic degradation of typical MB dye compared with P25 and $CdLa_2S_4$ bulk nanoparticles. The enhancement of visible-light-responsive photocatalytic properties by decolorization of Rh.B dye may be attributed to the following causes. Firstly, graphene nanosheet is capable of accepting, transporting and storing electrons, and thus retarding or hindering the recombination of the electrons with the holes remaining on the excited $CdLa_2S_4$ nanoparticles. Secondly, graphene nanosheet can increase the adsorption of pollutants. The final cause is that their extended light absorption range. This work not only offers a simple way to synthesize graphene-based composites via a one-step process at low temperature but also a path to obtain efficient functional materials for environmental purification and other applications.

  • Among various metal oxides semiconductors, $TiO_2$ is the most studied semiconductor for environmental clean-up applications due to its unique ability in photocatalyzing various organic contaminants, its chemical inertness, and nontoxicity. $TiO_2$, however, has a few drawbacks to be solved such as reactivity mainly working under ultraviolet irradiation (${\lambda}$ < 387 nm) and electron - hole recombination on $TiO_2$. In this study, to extend the absorption range of $TiO_2$ into the visible range and enhance electron - hole separation, we synthesized platinum (Pt) deposited $C-TiO_2$. The presence of Pt as an electron sink has been known to snhance the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and induce the thermal decomposition. The characterization of as-synthesized $Pt-C-TiO_2$ was performed by Transmission Electron Microscopic (TEM), the Brunuer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method, X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), UV-vis spectrometer (UV-DRS), and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). In order to estimate the photocatalytic activity of the synthesized materials, the photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). In order to estimate the photocatalytic activity of the synthesized materials, the photodegradation experiment of an azo dye (Acid Red 44; $C_{10}H_7N=NC_{10}H_3(SO_3Na)_2OH$)was carried out by using an Xe arc lamp (300 W, Oriel). A 420 nm cut-off filter was used for visible light irradiation. From the results, Pt-deposited $C-TiO_2$ showed a far superior phothdegradation activity to Degussa P25, the commercial product under the irradiation of visible light and enhanced photocatalytic activity of visible-working $C-TiO_2$. This is a useful result into the application for the purification system of dye wastewater using visible energy of sun light.

  • New porous $TiO_2$ nanostructures with shapes of pearl and rice were synthesized by hydrothermal treatment of $TiO_2$-liposome nanocomposites in acid and base solutions, respectively, as identified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images and large Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface areas. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and selected area electron diffraction proved them to be well-defined anatase crystals. Their UV-visible reflectance absorption spectra were observed to have low band gap energy (3.03 and 3.07 eV, respectively), exhibiting surface absorption band in the visible range from 400 to 600 nm. The degradation of methylene blue (MB) over the $TiO_2$ nanostructures was observed upon visible-light irradiation, which was found to be very efficient as compared with any other conventional visible-light responsive $TiO_2$ nanostructures.

  • Transparent electrode ZnO:Al(AZO)films were deposited on a PES (polyethersulfone) polymer substrate for thin film solar cells applications. A PES substrate with a thickness of 0.2mm and transmittance > 90% in the visible range was used because it is light weight and can deform easily. AZO thin films were prepared at a fixed DC power, $PO_2\;=\;P(O_2)/[P(O_2)\;+\;P(Ar)]$, and various substrate temperatures. The properties of AZO thin films were examined by X-ray diffraction, UV/VIS spectroscopy, four-point probe, Hall measurements, and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The lowest resistivity of all the films was $4.493\;{\times}\;10^{-4}\;[\Omega-cm]$ and the transmittance was > 80% in the visible range.

  • Ion implantation in polymeric materials can induce dramatic chemical modifications, such as bond breaking, cross linking, formation of new chemical products, which have strong influences on the macroscopic properties of the materials. In this study ion implantation was performed onto polymer, PC(polycarbonate), in order to investigate change of the optical transmittance property focusing ultraviolet ray range(200-400nm). PC was irradiated with N, Ar, Kr, Xe ions at the ion energy of 50keV and the dose range of 5 ${\times}$ 10$\^$15/, 1 ${\times}$ 10$\^$16/, 7${\times}$10$\^$16/ ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$. FT-IR, XPS, UV/Vis transmittance spectroscopy measurement technologies were employed to obtain chemical. structural properties and optical transmittance of irradiated polymer. The original PC(unimplanted) is quite transparent that it has more than 88% transmittance in the range UV-A(320∼400nm), but after ion implantation, surface colors were changed to the dark brown and the transmittance of UV ray decreased for all implantation condition, and the absorption edge was shift to visible range with increasing mass of implanted ion species and dose.
