  • In this work, an ER clutch has been constructed and its characteristics have been evaluated by adapting an electro-rheological fluid(ERF) as an operating medium. ER fluids are suspensions which show an abrupt increase in rheological properties under electric fields. An ER clutch system using ER fluid is a new conception device because an apparent viscosity of ER fluid can be changed by apply an electric field. As a first, Bingham properties of ER fluids are experimentally distilled as a function of electric field. We use the disk type ER clutch in which the ER fluid fills the annular space between a pair of coaxial disk electrodes and experiment results show that the measured revolution per minute was increased with the increase of the electric field. The ER fluid used in the present study consists of weight fraction 35% in zeolite suspended silicone oil.

  • This article described the numerical investigation of shear-thinning blood flow characteristics when subjected to longitudinal and transverse vibrations and delineated the underlying mechanisms of the flow rate enhancements, respectively. In order to fully consider the mechanical vibrations of the capillary, a moving wall boundary condition was adopted. The present numerical results showed that the longitudinal vibration caused a significant increase of wall shear rates, which resulted in a decrease of viscosity and the subsequent increase of flow rates. However, the shear rate for the transverse vibration was slightly increased and the calculated flow rate was underestimated comparing with the previous experimental results.

  • An intermediate, tetramethylene bis (orthophosphate), was prepared by the esterification of pyrophosphoric acid and l,4-butanediol. Then pyrophosphoric-containing modified polyesters (ATTBs) were synthesized by polycondensation of tetramethylene bis(orthophosphate), trimethylolpropane, adipic acid, and l,4-butanediol. The content of l,4-butanediol was varied from 10 to 20wt% for the reaction. The increase of the amount of l,4-butanediol in the synthesis of ATTBs resulted in increase in average molecular weight and decrease in kinematic viscosity owing to the excellent flowability and reactivity of l,4-butanediol.

  • The emulsification of lithographic printing inks are very important to determine printing quality. In this study, we measured the variation of water pickup according to the hardness of water in dampening solution. In order to observe the rheorogical properties of the emulsified inks, we measured the viscosity, the elastic return, the thixotropy area and yield stress value of the emulsified inks. In this paper, we found that the water pickup of the ink increase the hardness of water with the amount of dampening solution. Also, The viscosity, the yield stress value and the thixotropy area were increase by the water pickup of the ink.

  • The effect of some formulation variables on the release rate of famotidine, a $H_2$ receptor antagonist, from cellulose matrices containing hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) in different ratios and types was investigated. The effects of tablet shape and compression pressure on dissolution rate of famotidine were studied. And the effect of the pH of dissolution media was also studied. Increase in the ratio of polymer to drug decreased the release rate of famotidine. Increase of the polymer viscosity also decreased the release rate. The release rate of famotidine was dependent on the pH of dissolution media. The release rate of drug was not much dependent on the compression pressure but dependent on the tablet shape and/or surface area. Consequently, the release rate of famotidine can be modified by changing the HPC contents, types of polymers with different viscosity grades or using appropriate fillers.

  • Korean red ginseng tails was extracted with solutions having various ethanol concentration at the temperature range of 70-100 $^{\circ}C$. Extraction was carried out for 1-5 times of 8 hours at given temperature. The results obtained on physicochemical properties of yields, saponins, sugars, minerals, color and viscosity were analyzed statistically to find the correlation with extracting conditions. A very high positive correlation was found between extraction time and cumulative values of yields of chemical components. Increase in ethanol concentration affected negatively on viscosity, absorbencies and yields of soluble solids and minerals. Some of the properties also showed a high correlation with temperature increase. Equations were also derived from the significant results on correlation analysis.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the sensory characteristics of brown sauce made with different ratios of Jubak. In the brown sauce made from Jubak, the followings showed changes according to the amount of Jubak. The content of crude lipid increased, that of crude protein and moisture decreased, and that of crude ash and reduced sugar increased. Brown sauce made from Jubak contained more reduced sugar than general brown sauce, and the content of reduced sugar increased. pH increased from initial pH 4.32 to 5.42 respectively, and viscosity increased. The "L" value expressing brightness of samples had a tendency to increase with Jubak added. "a" value had a tendency to increase in case of no Jubak added, and "b" value had a tendency to decrease according to the amount of Jubak. In the sensory evaluation, color and flavor decreased and viscosity increased with the amount of Jubak. Overall, it was the highest in 0% Jubak. From the above results, an addition of 25% Jubak to brown sauce is recommended for commercial use.

  • The characteristics of dielectric constant and $tan{\delta}$ of low viscosity silicone oils with changing degree of polymerization were investigated. The result shows dipole loss mechanism at low temperature range. The dielectric loss in the range of low frequencies are predominantly of ionic nature with temperature increase. The peak of dielectric loss is the detrapping of the electrons which is were trapped in the localized level of the silicone oils at the frequency of 30 kHz. The increase of ionic conduction is attributed to the presence of ionizable oxidation products and their increased dissociation feature. The activation energy ${\Delta}H$ and dipole moment ${\mu}_d$ were increased whit increasing degree of polymerization.

  • The steady and dynamic shear rheological properties of traditional kochujang fermented at three different temperatures (20${^circ}C$, 25${^circ}C$ and 30${^circ}C$) were studied. Flow of kochujang samples showed time dependence, which was quantitatively described by the Weltman model, Kochujang samples were highly shear thinning fluids (n=0.25~0.27) with large magnitudes of Casson yield stresses (1.09~1.21 kPa). Consistency index (K) and apparent viscosity (${\eta}_{a,20}$) increased with increase in fermentation temperature of kochujang. Storage (G') and loss (G") moduli increased with increase in frequency (ω), while complex viscosity (${\eta}^{\ast}$) decreased. Based on dynamic shear data, kochujang samples exhibit structural properties similar to weak gels. The complex and steady shear viscosities at different fermentation temperatures followed the Cox-Merz superposition rule with the application of the shift factor (a=0.011~0.016).

  • To comply with stringent exhaust emission standards, it is necessary to reserch on some better quality of automotive fuels. Sulfur in fuels is sulfur compound by DOC and then it caused to the increase of PM on the surface of the catalyst. This research is focused on diesel emission characteristics and poisoning effect on Diesel Oxidation Catalyst when Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel(ULSD) and biodiesel are applied simultaneously. The biodiesel is used to improve viscosity of fuel specially in fuel injection system of engine since the introduction of ULSD may degrade viscosity in the process of desulfurization. Furthermore, this study may provide some basic data for the design of emissions reduction technology.
