  • To validate the effects of students' individual factor, school organizational factor, and teacher factor on violent behavior toward peers in school, this study applied Hierarchical Linear Modeling and analyzed it using the HLM 7 program. To this end, it used survey data of students from 50 middle schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. A total of 1,777 cases from 50 middle schools were used for individual student-level analysis (Level 1), and used for school-level analysis (Level-2). According to the results of the analysis, student-level variables such as attitude toward violence, experience of child abuse at home, and delinquent peers had significant effects on school violence. The effects of violent discipline by teacher, which are used as a school-level variable, was statistically significant. Based on the result of the study, action plans and policies to resolve school violence were discussed.

  • In this study, we considered bivariate conditional auto-regressive model taking into account spatial association as well as correlation between the two dependent variables, which are the counts of murder and burglary. We conducted likelihood ratio test for checking over-dispersion issues prior to applying spatial poisson models. For the real application, we used the annual counts of violent crimes at 25 districts of Seoul in 2007. The statistical results are visually illustrated by geographical information system.

  • To estimate the factors to the inclination of the criminal violence, the content of trace minerals and toxic metals in the scalp hair were measured during the period from May 1992 to October 1992. One hundred eleven violent and 89 nonviolent criminal inmates of Taegu Correctional Institute were selected. The inmates of violent criminals were imprisoned by murder, robber, rape, injury and violent acts. Those of nonviolent criminals were swindle, larceny, and adultery and had no history of institutional violence. The contents of two toxic metals (cadmium, lead) and five trace minerals (Cu, Fe, Zn, Mg, Na) were determined by an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (IL. 551). The contents of cadmium and lead in hair of violent criminals were significantly higher as $0.56{\pm}0.14ppm,\;11.53{\pm}3.32ppm$, respectively, than $0.42{\pm}0.20ppm,\;9.63{\pm}4.31ppm$ of nonviolent group (p<0.01). But the level of copper was significantly lower than nonviolent group (p<0.05). The factors that had a significant correlation with the inclination of violence in multiple logistic regression analysis were cadmium (odds ratio=98.09), unmarried (odds ratio=0.39), many times of criminal history(odds ratio=1.57) and residence of rural area (odds ratio=0.44). The results suggest that the sub-toxic contents of cadmium and lead in the hair may be of potential effect on behavior, and the mineral analysis may be an important adjunctive diagnostic procedure. Further studies into this problem are necessary.

  • This study investigated subtypes of men who batter, and explored the differences among them. It was based on 217 subjects from all around the nation who received legal punishment. In the analysis of the typology, we specifically tested whether the Holtzworth-Munroe and Stuart proposed typology was verified. The results of the cluster analysis revealed support for their theoretical distinction for three types of abusers. These results imply that Holtzworth-Munroe and Stuart's batterer typology is applicable to Korean batterers to some degree. Type 1 men demonstrated the lowest levels of physical and psychological abuse toward their wives and were the least likely to have had a history of child abuse or alcohol problems. These men had lower MCMI scores and did not show any extraordinary personality traits. Men in this category were violent only against their wives, had relatively liberal sex role attitudes and had the most satisfaction in their intimate relationships. Type 2 men were violent only at home, using a moderate level of violence. These men had very high levels of dependency on others and showed a borderline, avoident or passive-aggressive personality. The amount of alcohol consumption was similar to Type 1, but scores of jealousy, self-esteem, and attitudinal variables were similar to Type 3 men. They lacked assertiveness skills and reported the least marital satisfaction. Type 3 men used the most severe violence and were violent both inside and outside the home. These men showed signs of antisocial and aggressive personality. They had experienced frequent physical abuse during childhood, were the most likely to abuse alcohol and had lower self-control. Type 3 were the most traditional in their views of women's roles and had attitudes supporting violence. Based upon the study findings, practical implications of enhancing treatment efficacy were considered.

  • Color-$X^2$ is used as a method for scene change detection. It extracts a violent scene in an elevator and then could be used for real-time surveillance of criminal acts. The scene could be also used to secure after-discovered evidences and to prove analysis processes. Video Forensic is defined as a research on various methods to efficiently analyze evidences upon crime-related visual images in the field of digital forensic. The method to use differences of color-histogram detects the difference values of histogram for RGB color from two frames respectively. Our paper uses Color-$X^2$ histogram that is composed of merits of color histogram and ones of $X^2$ histogram, in order to efficiently extract violent scenes in elevator. Also, we use a threshold so as to find out key frame, by use of existing Color-$X^2$ histogram. To increase the probability that discerns whether a real violent scene or not, we take advantage of statistical judgments with 20 sample visual images.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of violent experiences, the types of responses to violent experiences, the coping methods among nurses working in long-term care hospitals. Data were collected using structured questionnaires from 226 nurses in 12 long-term care hospitals in J province. Data collection was performed between April 15, 2016 and April 29, 2016. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and ${\chi}2-test$. Of all the respondents, 55.8% had experienced violence in the past 1 year. Of the perpetrators of the violence, 54.6% and 60.0%, were aged 65 and over and had cognitive functional decline, respectively. The most frequent type of violence was verbal abuse(90.5%). Following the violent experiences, emotional responses had the highest score($2.8{\pm}0.8$). The major coping behavior was "told their peers(84.1%)", followed by "disregarded it and worked although it felt bad(75.4%)". These results indicate the need to establish systems for violence prevention and coping, as well as applicable educational programs, tailored to the circumstances of long-term care hospitals and the characteristics of their patients.

  • In this study, we examined the effects of video game play on a variety of areas of mental well-being, such as aggressive behavior, aggressive cognition, prosocial behavior, prosocial attitude, antisocial behavior, antisocial attitude, positive affect, and negative affect. We conducted a multivariate meta-analysis on 22 studies (k= 54, N = 8,031) published between January 2008 and October 2019. The results of the meta-analysis indicate that exposure to violent video games significantly increased aggressive cognition and negative affect only in true experimental studies, but their influences were small. Furthermore, the exposure to violent video games did not increase aggressive behavior and negative affect across all the research designs (true experimental, quasi-experimental, and correlational). Moderator analyses revealed that the effects of exposure to violent video games were much larger for younger adults than for children and greater in male-biased studies than in gender-balanced ones. Additionally, studies using better methodologies were less likely to produce negative effects. These findings suggest that the effects of exposure to violent video games on aggression were not as severe as popular opinion holds, and the effects were heavily modulated by the age and gender ratio of the participants, and methodological quality of the studies.

  • Recently school violence has been increasing and what is worse, it has been more violent and cruel. The purpose of this study was to analyze the actual conditions of the elementary school violence and to propose the strategies to prevent it. Subjects were 762 male and female elementary school students in Pusan. They were asked to rate the questionnaire concerning school violence. The statistical method of this was verified by X2. The findings of the study were as follows: First, there was gender difference in degrees of school violence. Male students were more exposed to offensive and violent circumstances than female students. Second, there was grade difference in degrees of school violence. 3rd and 4th students were more vulnerable than other grade students. Third, school violence took place in a classroom, usually on break time or lunch time. Forth, half of the students reported to parents and teachers when they or their friends were assaulted. Fifth, the reasons of not reporting the school violence was due to fear of the assailants. The implications of these findings were discussed.

  • Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method has a good adaptability for the simulation of free surface flow problems. There are two forms of SPH. One is weak compressible SPH and the other one is incompressible SPH (ISPH). Compared with the former one, ISPH method performs better in many cases. ISPH based on Rankine source solution can perform better than traditional ISPH, as it can use larger stepping length by avoiding the second order derivative in pressure Poisson equation. However, ISPH_R method needs to solve the sparse linear matrix for pressure Poisson equation, which is one of the most expensive parts during one time stepping calculation. Iterative methods are normally used for solving Poisson equation with large particle numbers. However, there are many iterative methods available and the question for using which one is still open. In this paper, three iterative methods, CGS, Bi-CGstab and GMRES are compared, which are suitable and typical for large unsymmetrical sparse matrix solutions. According to the numerical tests on different cases, still water test, dam breaking, violent tank sloshing, solitary wave slamming, the GMRES method is more efficient than CGS and Bi-CGstab for ISPH method.
