An Analysis of 'The Phase Changes of the Moon', the Contents in Science Textbook of the 9th Grade

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze illustrations, contents, and experiment in 6 kinds of science textbook from the 9th grade covering the phase change of the Moon (on the phase change of the Moon in six 9th grade science textbook) and to suggest coherent and effective contents and frame of the science textbook. Hence, the researcher decided the study problem. The study problems are as follows; 'Are the illustrations in the science textbook presented to help understand the phase change of the Moon depending on the position of the observer?', 'Does the contents of the book clearly mention the phase change of the Moon?', 'Can students understand the phase change of the Moon through the experiments in the science textbook?', 'Do illustrations, contents, and experiment of the science textbook consistently explain phase change of the Moon?'. 10 persons (9graduate students including the researcher) took part in this study. All things unanimously agreed upon by all participants were reflected in the results. The results are as follows. First, the universe observer's view point is mixed with the earth observer's view in illustration of these science textbook regarding the phase change of the Moon. Moreover, illustrations of some textbooks are presented with such words as 'sunrise', 'midnight' and consequently contain too much contents. Second, the contents of the science textbook concerning the phase change of the Moon is not described clearly. In addition, they don't give clear and detailed explanations for the reason of the phase change of the Moon. Third, all of the textbooks, except one textbook, describe the experiment regarding the phase change of the Moon with the earth observer's view point but don't specifically mention that the view point is that of the earth observer's view point. Fourth, illustrations, contents, and experiments in the science textbook don't coherently explain the phase change of the Moon. In addition, it is confirmed through the process of the result analysis that the described contents in the science curriculum is not well constructed or logical.

Learning-Based Multiple Pooling Fusion in Multi-View Convolutional Neural Network for 3D Model Classification and Retrieval

  • We design an ingenious view-pooling method named learning-based multiple pooling fusion (LMPF), and apply it to multi-view convolutional neural network (MVCNN) for 3D model classification or retrieval. By this means, multi-view feature maps projected from a 3D model can be compiled as a simple and effective feature descriptor. The LMPF method fuses the max pooling method and the mean pooling method by learning a set of optimal weights. Compared with the hand-crafted approaches such as max pooling and mean pooling, the LMPF method can decrease the information loss effectively because of its "learning" ability. Experiments on ModelNet40 dataset and McGill dataset are presented and the results verify that LMPF can outperform those previous methods to a great extent.

주성분분석을 이용한 치아의 다면 특징 기반 생체식별 (Biometrics Based on Multi-View Features of Teeth Using Principal Component Analysis)

  • 본 논문은 주성분분석기법을 이용한 치아의 다면특징을 기반으로 한 새로운 생체 식별시스템을 제안한다. 치아의 다면 특징들은 정면치아와 좌측, 우측 치아들로 이루어진다. 우리는 실생활 환경에서 보안 접속을 위하여 치아를 이용한 생체식별을 목표로 한다. 다면 치아 영상들은 특별히 고안된 실험환경에서 획득되었으며, 개인 식별을 위한 특징으로 42개의 주성분이 개발되었다. 개인 식별은 학습된 다면치아와 회전된 다면치아 사이의 최소근접기법에 의해 계산되었다. 2도 회전 후의 다면치아 인식성능은 평균값으로 좌측면 치아 95.2%, 우측면 치아 91.3%을 보였다.

A Novel Approach to Mugshot Based Arbitrary View Face Recognition

  • Mugshot face images, routinely collected by police, usually contain both frontal and profile views. Existing automated face recognition methods exploited mugshot databases by enlarging the gallery with synthetic multi-view face images generated from the mugshot face images. This paper, instead, proposes to match the query arbitrary view face image directly to the enrolled frontal and profile face images. During matching, the 3D face shape model reconstructed from the mugshot face images is used to establish corresponding semantic parts between query and gallery face images, based on which comparison is done. The final recognition result is obtained by fusing the matching results with frontal and profile face images. Compared with previous methods, the proposed method better utilizes mugshot databases without using synthetic face images that may have artifacts. Its effectiveness has been demonstrated on the Color FERET and CMU PIE databases.

중학교 3학년 과학 교과서의 '달의 위상변화' 문제점 분석 (An Analysis of 'The Phases of the Moon', Contents of 9th Grade Science Textbook)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 달의 위상변화를 다룬 중학교 3학년 과학 교과서 6종의 삽화, 내용, 실험의 문제점을 분석하고, 달의 위상변화에 대한 교과서 삽화, 내용, 실험의 일관성 있는 새로운 구성을 제안하기 위함이다. 이를 위해 연구자는 '교과서 삽화가 달의 위상변화를 이해하는데 도움이 되는가?', '교과서 내용이 달의 위상변화를 이해하는 데 도움이 되는가?', '교과서 실험이 달의 위상변화를 이해하는데 도움이 되는가?', '교과서 삽화, 내용, 실험이 일관성 있게 달의 위상변화를 설명하고 있는가?'를 연구문제로 선정하였다. 연구자를 포함해 교육대학원생 10명이 본 연구에 참여하였으며, 연구 참여자 모두의 의견이 일치된 내용만을 연구결과에 반영하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 달의 위상변화와 관련된 교과서 삽화에 우주관찰자 관점, 지구관찰자 관점이 혼재되어 나타나 있었다. 또한 일부 교과서 삽화에서는 '일출', '일몰' 등의 단어를 함께 제시하고 있어 너무 많은 내용을 하나의 삽화에 제시하고 있다. 둘째, 달의 위상변화와 관련된 교과서 내용이 불명확하게 진술되어 있었다. 특히 달의 위상변화 원인에 대한 명확하고 자세한 설명이 이루어지고 있지 않았다. 셋째, 한 교과서를 제외한 나머지 다섯 교과서에서 달의 위상변화와 관련된 실험을 지구관찰자 관점에서 다루고 있었지만, 지구관찰자에 대한 구체적인 언급을 하고 있지 않았다. 넷째, 교과서 삽화, 내용, 실험이 일관성 있게 달의 위상변화를 설명하고 있지 못했다.

Improved View-Based Navigation for Obstacle Avoidance using Ego-Motion

  • In this study, we propose an improved view-based navigation method for obstacle avoidance and evaluate the effectiveness of the method in real environments with real obstacles. The proposed method possesses the ability to estimate the position and rotation of a mobile robot, even if the mobile robot strays from a recording path for the purpose of avoiding obstacles. In order to achieve this, ego-motion estimation was incorporated into the existing view-based navigation system. The ego-motion is calculated from SURF points between a current view and a recorded view using a Kinect sensor. In conventional view-based navigation systems, it is difficult to generate alternate paths to avoid obstacles. The proposed method is anticipated to allow a mobile robot greater flexibility in path planning to avoid humans and objects expected in real environments. Based on experiments performed in an indoor environment using a mobile robot, we evaluated the measurement accuracy of the proposed method, and confirmed its feasibility for robot navigation in museums and shopping mall.

제조 데이타베이스 설계에서의 뷰 통합 방안 (A methodology for view integration in manufacturing database design)

  • Conceptual database design is an important activity because the performance of a DBMS heavily depends on the proper design of the database, and view integration is one of the most important phases of conceptual database design. During this phase, the individual views designed by separate user groups are integrated into a global view for the entire system. After the view integration, a database schema must be validated before it becomes a stable product of the design. In this paper, a methodology for view integration an validation is suggested. The individual views are modeled by entity-relationship model. The entities are integrated according to their name and domain information. After that, the relationships are merged by their constraints. We also present a methodology for checking redundant relationships which has an algorithmic description.

Q-Ray View 활용이 치위생과정을 위한 치아 검사의 신뢰도 향상에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of the Q-Ray View on Reliability of Assessing a Tooth Status for Dental Hygiene Process)

  • 본 연구는 치위생과 대학에서 이루어지고 있는 치위생과정 실습에서 3학년 학생들이 대상자의 치아상태를 Q-ray view를 사용하지 않고 평가한 방법과 Q-ray view를 사용하여 평가한 방법을 숙련된 검사자의 치아검사결과를 기준치로 하여 부위별, 병소 및 수복물별 일치도를 비교하였다. 부위별 차이에서 병소와 수복물은 Q-ray view를 사용한 경우에 높은 일치도를 나타냈다. 특히 상악전치부는 수복물에서 100% 정답기준과 일치하였다. 병소 및 수복물별 차이에서 Q-ray view를 사용한 경우 병소에서는 치아우식증과 초기우식증, 치아파절에서 차이가 있었고 수복물에서는 수복물 또는 치면열구전색이 없는 경우와 심미수복물에서 유의한 차이가 있었다. 본 연구의 결과 Q-ray view를 병행해서 치아검사를 수행했을 때 경험이 부족한 치위생과 학생의 치아검사 신뢰성이 향상되었다. 따라서 치위생과정 실습에서 Q-ray view는 학생의 치아검사역량 증진에 효과적인 도구로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • In general, electronic conveyor scales are installed in a relatively distributed manner on the crushed rock and sand production site. It is one of the time-consuming and difficult engineering works to monitor and control the plant operation status such as the management of measuring data, malfunction of belt conveyor, and fault of electronic conveyor scale. Therefore, to alleviate the inefficient problems and to monitor the operating plant in the online and remote control room, a remote calibration and real-time monitoring system, which is practically applied to the electronic conveyor scale system and verified by onsite experiment, is developed based on the LabVIEW.

  • In the present paper we propose a new method of intermediate view reconstruction between stereo images using belief propagation_based stereo matching. Intermediate view reconstruction is an important step for multiview 3D display. Many previous paper about intermediate view reconstruction using depth information to synthesize interview though stereo matching were proposed. But depth information is different to estimated accurately. In the present paper, in order to obtain accurate depth information, belief propagation_based stereo matching was used.
