  • This research proposes an effective analytical methodology for vertical vibration of three dimensional frame structures including slabs. The consideration of slabs, although allows more precise results, requires large amount of computer time and memory space due to the use of plane stress elements. In consideration of these problems, a method to properly manage nodal points and degrees of freedom is proposed based on matrix condensation technique. Also studied is the use of substructure method to obtain fast and reliable results with simple input data when they are applied to conventional building structures.

  • This experimental study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of centrifugal pipes which were made of silica fume concrete. External load tests showed that maximum external load ranged from 1,100~5,300kgf/m with thickness ratio(t/D) of between 4.5%~10.0%. Correlation between thickness ratios and external loads was excellent with $R^2$ of 0.99. Respective correlation between measured and computed vertical deformation was good with $R^2$ of higher than 0.90. And therefore, vertical deformation and tensile stress of centrifugal concrete pipes may be theoretically computed with a good precision.

  • Polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin film transistors (TFT's) employing vertical amorphous silicon (a-Si) offsets have been fabricated without additional photolithography processes. The a-Si offset has been formed utilizing the poly-Si grain growth blocking effect by thin native oxide film during the excimer laser recrystallization of a-Si. The ON current degradation of the new device after 4 hour's electrical stress was reduced by 5 times compared with conventional poly-Si TFT's.

  • The purpose of this study is that to develop computer program, which is about to analy size nonlinear behaviour of elastic framed structures include to geometric & material nonlineality, and to formulate between stress-strain relationship. In order to examplity the efficiency of this program, a few analytical results have been obtained on : (1) nonlinear behaviour of beam which is subject to vertical force (2) nonlinear behaviour of portal frame which is subject to vertical & horizontal force.

  • During dental treatment, if a tooth were fractured suddenly by unnoticed tooth crack or vertical root fracture, it would be very embarrassing and frustrating experiences to dentists. But if it were once diagnosed as one of these teeth fracture, dentist should know about the etiology, course of fracture development, treatment modality to avoid argument with patient. In here cases and diagnostic skills, etiology and treatement methods of tooth fracture originated by internal stress and masticatory force were discussed to help dentists.

  • Stress tests were conducted in the carbody of the railroad car to check the structural strength of the body of the railroad car. The objective of this study was to evaluate safety of the carbody of a railroad car under the maximal strength. The carbody of rolling stock is a principal structure that supports major equipment of the underframe and the freight. Therefore, the strength evaluation of this structure is important. This study was carried out to analyze the structure of carbody and evaluate safety under maximum vertical load, compressive load, and torsional load. Accordingly, stress tests were conducted on the carbody to measure the stress on each of their parts. Before the load test, a structural-analysis program was used for the stress distribution analysis of the body structure.

  • In this study, stress analysis using Boundary Element Method (BEM) was carried to investigate stress distribution in the brazing joint between a Hardmetal and a HSS. The two models were proposed to analyze the stress singularity in the interfaces of the brazing joint. The material type, thickness of the filler metal and the length of the vertical brazing adhesive are considered in the BEM analysis. As results, the peak point of the stress is founded to be in the lower interface of the brazed joint. It should be noted that the maximum stress of the peak point is being affected by the thickness and length of the brazing joint.

  • Variation of horizontal to vertical stress ratio of transversely isotropic rock caused by erosion was studied by numerical analysis. Influence of transversely isotropic was less than 5% for isotropic case. Difference between stresses obtained by numerical analysis and theoretical solution was small when initial stress ratio was small and the difference increased as erosion depth increased. Stress ratios diverged from initial ones as depth increased. An equation to determine stress ratio considering erosion according to the analyses was suggested.

  • This paper represents an electrostatic micro plate resonator which consists of a rigid plate suspended with four bridges and a counter electrode. The bridges of the resonator are designed corrugated so that the residual stress are released. The FEM simulation results confirmed that the deflection characteristic of the corrugated bridge is hardly affected by the initial residual tensile stress. One resonator with the corrugated bridges and the other with the flat bridges were fabricated by the boron diffusion process and the anisotropic etch process. The vertical deflection of the fabricated electrostatic resonator was measured with a laser vibrometer, and the data were compared with the calculation results. The deflection of the resonator with the flat bridges is smaller than the deflection of that with the corrugated ones because of the residual stress. The residual stress release effect was confirmed by the fact that the measured deflection of the resonator with the corrugated bridges in close to the calculated deflection of the resonator with the flat ones with the initial stress neglected.

  • Vehicle components such as lower control arm are usually affected by heat during the welding process. As a result, residual stress is generated, which has much effect on mechanical performances such as crashworthiness and durability. In this study, the residual stress in lower control arm has been measured by the x-ray diffraction method and been analyzed by finite element methods. Heat transfer during seam weld process has been calculated and used in calculating thermal deformation with temperature dependent material properties. High residual stress has been found at vertical wall both by measurement and simulation. The simulation also showed the residual stress re-distribution when the component is subjected to cyclic loading condition.
