여름철 열원과 기본장이 로스비 파동전파에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험 연구 (Experimental Study for Influence of Summertime Heat Sources and Basic States on Rossby Wave Propagation)

  • We investigated the impacts of the diabatic heating location, vertical profile and basic state on the Rossby wave propagation. To examine the dynamical process of individual responses on the regional heat source, a dry version of the linear baroclinic model was used with climatological summertime (JJA) mean basic state and vertical structure of the diabatic heating for 1979-2008. Two sets of diabatic heating were constructed of those positioned in the mid-latitudes (Tibetan Plateau, eastern Mediterranean Sea, and the west-central Asia) and the tropics (the southern India, Bay of Bengal, and western Pacific). It was found that using the principal component analysis, atmospheric response to diabatic heating reaches to the steady state in 19th days in time. The prescribed mid-latitude forcing forms equivalent barotropic Rossby wave propagation along the westerly Asia jets, whereas the tropical forcing generates the Rossby wave train extending from the tropics to mid-latitudes. In relation to the maximum vertical profile, the mid-level forcing reveals a stronger response than the lower-level forcing, which may be caused by more effective Rossby wave response by the upper-level divergent flow. Under the different sub-seasonal mean state, both of the tropical and mid-latitude forcing induce the different sub-seasonal response intensity, due to the different basic-state wind.

A CFD Study of Roadside Barrier Impact on the Dispersion of Road Air Pollution

  • This study evaluated road shape and roadside barrier impact on near-road air pollution dispersion using FLUENT computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. Simulated road shapes are three types, namely at-grade, depressed, and filled road. The realizable k-${\varepsilon}$ model in FLUENT CFD code was used to simulate the flow and dispersion around road. The selected concentration profile results were compared with the wind tunnel experiments. The overall concentration profile results show good agreement with the wind tunnel results. The results showed that noise barriers, which positioned around the at-grade road, decrease the horizontal impact distance (In this study, the impact distance was defined as the distance from road surface origin coordinate to the position whose mass fraction is 0.1.) lower 0.33~0.65 times and change the vertical air pollution impact distance larger 2.0~2.27 times than those of no barrier case. In case of filled road, noise barriers decrease the horizontal impact distance lower 0.24~0.65 times and change the vertical air pollution impact distance larger 3.33~3.55 times than those of no barrier case. The depressed road increase 1.53~1.68 times the vertical air pollution impact distance. It contributes the decrease of horizontal air pollution impact distance 0.32~0.60 times compare with no barrier case.

다중 수증기/이산화탄소 프로파일 관측 시스템의 원리와 활용 (Principles and Applications of Multi-Level H2O/CO2 Profile Measurement System)

  • 연직으로 여러 높이에서 측정된 기체의 농도는 다양한 목적에 활용될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 복잡지형에 위치한 우리나라의 일반적인 산림유역에서 에디공분산방법에 의한 증발산 및 이산화탄소 순생태 교환량(Net Ecosystem Exchange, NEE)을 관측하기 위해서는 수평 및 연직 이류(advection)와 저류(storage)항의 효과를 정량화해야 한다. 그리고 미량 기체의 발원 및 흡원을 추적하거나 관측의 발자국 분석을 위해서도 필요하다. 수증기와 이산화탄소의 연직 농도 분포는 일반적으로 에디공분산 플럭스 타워에 보조 장치로 설치되는 다중 기체 프로파일 관측시스템(이하 프로파일 시스템)에 의해 측정된다. 이 시스템은 다른 미기상 관측기기와는 달리 서로 독립된 여러 기기와 장치들이 하나의 목적을 위해 결합되어 작동되기 때문에 사용방법과 기기의 운영/유지/보수에 많은 어려움이 따른다. 현재 전세계적으로 플럭스 타워 관측과 함께 이용되고 있는 프로파일 시스템은 대부분 미국의 캠벨사(Campbell Sci. Inc.)에서 제작/판매하는 시스템과 개별 연구자들이 각자의 목적과 관측환경에 적합하도록 자체 제작한 시스템으로 구분된다. 연세대학교 대기과학과 생물기상/생지화학 연구팀은 2005년부터 광릉 산림유역의 활엽수림과 침엽수림에 미국 캠벨사에서 제작한 두 개의 프로파일 시스템을 설치/운영하며 다양한 기술적, 이론적 경험과 지식을 축적해 왔다. 이 총설에서는 복잡지형 산림에서의 물과 탄소의 순생태 교환량 관측에 중요한 도구로 사용되는 프로파일 시스템의 원리, 구성, 활용 방법에 대해서 소개한다.

HeMOSU-1 풍속자료를 이용한 연직 분포함수의 매개변수 추정 및 분석 (Estimation and Analysis of the Vertical Profile Parameters Using HeMOSU-1 Wind Data)

  • 다양한 목표 고도에서의 풍속 추정은 해상풍력 구조물 설계 및 풍파 추정 등의 분야에서 매우 중요한 요소이다. 그러나 풍속 관측 자료가 특정 고도에 한정되어 있기 때문에 다른 고도에서의 풍속 추정은 일반적으로 사용되는 연직 분포함수와 평균적인 매개변수를 이용하여 추정한다. 본 연구에서는 HeMOSU-1 관측타워의 다양한 고도에서 측정한 풍속 자료를 이용하여 Power 함수, 대수함수의 매개변수를 추정하고 그 변동 양상을 분석하였다. 매개변수 추정 결과, Power 함수의 지수 매개변수는 일반적으로 제안되는 0.14(= 1/7) 보다 작은 평균 0.10 정도로 추정되었으며, 변동 범위도 0.0~0.3 정도로 파악되었다. 대수분포함수의 경우, 매개변수는 마찰속도와 조도 길이로 그 범위가 풍속에 따라 차이를 보이고 있으며, 변동 범위는 각각 0~10 (m/s), 0.0~1.0 (m) 정도로 파악되었으며, 일반적으로 제시되는 범위와는 그 차이를 보이는 것으로 파악되었다. 이러한 차이는 기존의 고도 분포함수가 대기 중립 조건을 가정하고 있는 영향으로 판단되며, 보다 정확한 추정을 위해서는 대기조건을 고려한 비선형 고도분포함수의 도입이 필요하다.

Improvement of Lubrication Characteristics in Fuel Injection Pump for Medium-Speed Diesel Engines: Part I - Application of Profile Shape

  • In this research, effects of profile changes of stem section of the plunger on the lubrication characteristics of a fuel injection pump (FIP) were evaluated by hydrodynamic lubrication analysis. The clearance between plunger and barrel was divided into two regions, head and stem. The head was not involved in preventing a decrease of fuel oil pressure. So, research efforts were focused on both edges of the plunger’s stem. The two -dimensional Reynolds equation was used to evaluate lubrication characteristics with variations in viscosity, clearance and profile for a laminar, incompressible, unsteady-state flow. Moreover, the equilibrium equation of moment and forces in the vertical and horizontal directions were used to determine the motion of the plunger. The equations were discretized using the finite difference method. Lubrication characteristics of the FIP were investigated by comparing the dimensionless minimum film thickness, or film parameter, which is the ratio of minimum film thickness to surface roughness. Through numerical analyses, we showed that the profile of the lower edge of the stem had no effect on lubrication characteristics, but the profile of the upper edge had a significant influence on lubrication characteristics. In addition, changes in the profile were more effective in improving lubrication characteristics under low viscosity conditions.

자연습지 우포늪 퇴적물의 연도별 잔류성 중금속 축적도 (Vertical Distribution of Persistent Heavy metals in Core Sediments from Upo Wetland)

  • Sediment cores were obtained from Upo and Mokpo in Upo Wetland and core samples were divided by depth into 20 ~ 21 subsamples. The heavy metal concentrations of Fe, Mn, Zn, AS, Cu, Cd, Ni, Pb, and Cr in the sediments of each depth were determined by ICP-MS. The texture of sediemnts from Upo Wetland appeared to be clayey silt with average grain size of $7.52{\sim}11.15{\mu}m$ for physical properties. It was found to have a clear tendency of depth profile with respect to TOC and ignition loss. Organics were stabilized in the range of 0.5 ~ 0.7 % TOC and 8 ~ 9 % ignition loss in 30 years, whereas, the surficial sediments have the highest concentrations of about 3.0 % of TOC and 13 ~ 15 % ignition loss. Those are much higher than the values of the main stream, the Nakdong River, which reflects the deposit of biodegradable organics from plants and other lifes. The vertical distribution of heavy metals in two sediment cores was investigated to elucidate historical trends of heavy metals deposited into Upo wetland. The depth profile concentrations of each heavy metal were compared and discussed with the Concensus-Based Sediment Quality Guidelines for freshwater ecosystems. All the Cd data for the vertical distribution in the sediments were detected above PEC value for Cd, which predict harmful effects on sediment-dwelling organisms expected to occur frequently. The concentrations of Zn, Cu, and Cr in all sediment samples for depth profile were detected below the TEC values, which provided a basis predicting the absence of toxicity by Zn, Cu, and Cr.

균일한 에피층 성장을 위한 입구 유속분포 최적화 (Optimization of inlet velocity profile for uniform epitaxial growth)

  • A numerical optimization procedure is developed to find the inlet velocity profile that yields the most uniform epitaxial layer in a vertical MOCVD reactor. It involves the solution of fully elliptic equations of motion, temperature, and concentration; the finite volume method based on SIMPLE algorithm has been adopted to solve the Navier-Stokes equations. The overall optimization process is highly nonlinear and has been efficiently treated by the sequential linear programming technique that breaks the non-linear problem into a series of linear ones. The optimal profile approximated by a 6th-degree Chebyshev polynomial is very successful in reducing the spatial non-uniformity of the growth rate. The optimization is particularly effective to the high Reynolds number flow. It is also found that a properly constructed inlet velocity profile can suppress the buoyancy driven secondary flow and improve the growth-rate uniformity.

자동볼평형장치의 밸런싱 성능에 대한 중력과 속도파형의 영향 (Gravity and Angular Velocity Profile Effects on the Balancing Performance of an Automatic Ball Balancer)

  • The balancing performance of an automatic ball balancer (ABB) in the vertical or horizontal position is studied in this paper. Considering the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles, a physical model for an ABB installed on the Jeffcott rotor is adopted. The non-linear equations of motion for the rotor with ABB are derived by using Lagrange's equation. Based on derived equations, dynamic responses for the rotor are computed by using the generalized-u method. From the computed responses, the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles on the balancing performance are investigated. It is found that the rotor with ABB can be balanced regardless of the gravity effect. It is also shown that a smooth velocity profile yields relatively smaller vibration amplitude than a non-smooth velocity profile.

유한요소 모델링을 이용한 Gullwing 리드의 3차원 솔더 접합부 형상 예측 (Prediction of Three-Dimensional Solder Joint Profile in Gullwing Lead using Finite Element Modeling)

  • The three-dimensional profile of a solder fillet is predicted by minimizing the surface tension and gravity energies of the solder joint using finite element modeling. Geometric complexity stemming from the inclined plane of the gullwing lead is resolved by employing three element types. These element types are used to describe the joint profile formed on the vertical, inclined and interfacial planes. The predicted solder joint profiles show good agreements with the experimental data provided that the solder volume is adjusted considering the wicking effects. Effects of the pad length, inclined lead angle and solder volume on joint profiles are also investigated.
