The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of the therapeutic sports massage(TSM) applied to the patients with delayed onset muscle soreness(DOMS) by measuring, assessing and analyzing the changes in intensity and unpleasantness of muscle pains before and after TSM. In the therapeutic sports massage program, such methods as effleurage, petrissage and deep transverse friction were selected as traditional massage treatments frequently used for muscles with pain and spasm. Effleurage and petrissage were applied for 20 minutes in total before and after deep transverse friction treatment. After TSM, the McGill pain questionnaire word list(MPQWL), verbal rating scale(VRS), visual analogue scale(VAS) were used to measure the degree of the pain on the patients. The major findings from this study are as follows; 1. The surveyed patients range from 15 to 63 in age, with highest numbers of 18(37.50%) registered in the twenties and next ones of 14(29.17%) in the thirties. Divided by sex, 27 are men and 21 are women totalling 48 with average age of 25.7. 2. There was significant decrease in the numerical values of VAS & VRS and MPQWL immediately after TSM(p<.05). There was also significant decrease in the numerical values of MPQWL, VRS and VAS after the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th TSM(p<.05). 3. There was significant decrease in the intensity and unpleasantness of pains after TSM(p<.05). 4. From the analysis into chronological changes in the intensity and unpleasantness of pains before and after TSM with ANOVA, it became evident that the longer the period of treatment was, the higher the pains decreases drastically, while significant difference was shown in the intensity and unpleasantness of pains(p<.05). Summed up, it can be generally concluded that TSM is an effective treatment to rid the patients with DOMS of pains safely and promptly.
Objectives : The purpose of this case in so report the patient with Reflex sympathetic dystrophy, who is improved by Bee venom. Result and Conclusion : We found that Bee venom had excellent outcome to relieve pain, atrophy and ankle joint ROM, and that Bee venom also had clinical effect on hypothermia on the Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging.
Objective: The aim of this report is to report the effects of Danggwisaeyeok-tang (當歸四逆湯) on Raynaud phenomenon in a patient. Methods: A 57-year-old male diagnosed in 2016 with Raynaud's phenomenon complained of pain, digital ulceration, and discoloration of his fingers. He underwent acupuncture and electroacupuncture treatment, but the symptoms gradually worsened, so we administered herbal medicine, Danggwisaeyeok-tang (當歸四逆湯). Visual observation of the affected part, changes in subjective symptoms, and a verbal numerical rating scale (VNAS) were used to assess the clinical response. Results: After treatment with Danggwisaeyeok-tang, the patient reported improvement in his symptoms of cold sensation, ulceration, and sclerosis of his digits. Furthermore, the patient exhibited no general adverse effects. Conclusions: Danggwisaeyeok-tang (當歸四逆湯) significantly improved the patient's clinical symptoms. This case suggests that Danggwisaeyeok-tang (當歸四逆湯) may represent a good option for the treatment of Raynaud's phenomenon.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to access the taping treatment in patients with sports injury of knee. Methods : Three patients were treated by taping to evaluate the effect of the treatment. The patient's symptoms were assessed by range of motion(ROM), verbal numerical rating scale(VNRS), knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score(KOOS) and physical examinations. Results : In all case, the pain was reduced according to VNRS score. ROM and KOOS of two cases were improved. Conclusion : These results suggest that taping might be an effective method to treat patients with sports injury of knee. But, it's necessary to have more observations and experiment with taping.
Background: This study examines the clinical effect on quality of life of herbal medicine and local acupuncture point stimulation administration for a cervicogenic dizziness (CGD) patient. This case report was described in accordance with CARE guidelines. Case Report: A 25 year-old female patient suspected to be suffering from CGD was examined. The patient was treated with herbal medicine and local acupuncture point stimulation. We used the Headache Impact Test-6 (HIT-6), Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), 36-Item Short Form Health Survey Version 2 (SF-36v2), and verbal numerical rating scale (VNRS) to assess the patient's symptoms. Objectives : There are few reports on treatment of thoracic outlet syndrome in the field of traditional Korean medicine. The aim of this study is to report a case of a 29-year-old male patient diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, whose symptoms were relieved after 3-week integrated Korean medical treatment. Methods : A patient diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome was admitted into the Korean medicine hospital. The patient had left shoulder pain and left arm numbness. The pain was worse if it had become cold. The patient was treated using Sa-am acupuncture(Daejangseunggyeok), sweet bee venom acupuncture, herbal medicine and other treatment including physical therapy from September 7th to 27th of 2012. Improvement of the patient's symptoms was evaluated by verbal numerical rating scale(VNRS), skin surface temperature difference between the left and right symmetric part of digital infrared thermographic image(DITI). Results : After 3-weeks of treatment, VNRS decreased and skin surface temperature difference between the left and right symmetric part of DITI showed moderate improvement. Conclusions : The results suggest that integrated Korean medical treatment may affect to reduce the symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome. Further study is needed to evaluate the importance of this report.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of bee venom pharmacopuncture therapy in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis. Methods : This clinical study was carried out on 119 patients with lumbar spinal stenosis, who had been admitted from May, 2009 to March, 2011. Patients were sorted into two groups ; One group(bee venom pharmacopuncture group) was treated with bee venom pharmacopuncture and acupuncture therapy, the other(non-bee venom pharmacopuncture group) with acupuncture therapy only. Verbal numerical rating scale(VNRS) and Oswestry disability index(ODI) were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment in both groups. VNRS and ODI scores of the two groups were statistically compared. Results : The bee venom pharmacopuncture group demonstrated a more significant improvement than non-bee venom pharmacopuncture group when evaluated with VNRS and ODI. Conclusions : In the case of the patients with spinal stenosis, it was found that treatment with combination of bee venom pharmacopuncture and acupuncture was more effective in improving the conditions of the patients (subsidence of the symptoms) than the acupuncture treatment only.
