  • Pitch period that is a important factor in speech signal processing is used in various applications such as speech recognition, speaker identification, speech analysis and synthesis. So many pitch detection algoritms have been studied until now. AMDF which is one of pitch period detection algorithms chooses the time interval from valley point to valley point as pitch period. In selection of valley point to detect pitch period, complexity of the algoritm is increased. So in this paper we proposed the simple algorithm using modified AMDF that detects global minimum valley point as pitch period of speech signal and compared existing methods with it through simulation.

  • This study was carried out to introduce current status to discuss erosion control strategy for the conservation of stream valley ecosystem. To restore stream valley ecosystem, we should establish restoration plans to keep the original shape of stream. It is necessary to use environmentally sound materials with conservation of valley stability. Valley construction for erosion control works should be evaluated continuously based on concepts of conservation and development of stream valley ecology. It is categorized in point of the important of class of stream valley conservation ahead planning and constructure. We suggest that the development of stream valley construction needs to prevent mass movement of soil sediments. In addition, it is established the basal strategy to protect macro and micro aquatic organisms in stream valley ecosystem.

  • As recent information communication technology is rapidly developed, a lot of researches related to speech signal processing have been processed. So pitch period is applied as important factor to many application fields such as speech recognition, speaker identification, speech analysis and synthesis. Therefore, many algorithms related to pitch detection have been proposed in time domain and frequency domain and AMDF(average magnitude difference function) which is one of pitch detection algorithms in time domain chooses time interval from valley to valley as pitch period. But, in selection of valley point to detect pitch period, complexity of the algorithm is increased. So in this paper we proposed pitch detection algorithm using rotation transform of AMDF, that taking the global minimum valley point as pitch period and established a threshold about the phoneme in beginning portion, to exclude pitch period selection. and compared existing methods with proposed method through simulation.

  • The Uncanny Valley phenomenon has already been deemed as theoretical, and the characteristics of game character expression elements for the Uncanny Valley phenomenon were recognized through case analysis as well. By theoretical consideration and case studies, it was found out that the influential elements of the Uncanny Valley phenomenon can be classified as two primary factors: character surface treatment and facial expression animation. The prepared experimental materials and adjectives were measured to be Five-Point Likert Scale. The measured results were evaluated for both influence and comparative analysis through essential statistical analysis and Repeated Measuring ANOVA in SPSS. The conclusions which were drawn from this research are as follows: The surface treatment of characters did not substantially affect the Uncanny Valley phenomenon. Instead, character's expression animation had a significant impact on the Uncanny Valley phenomenon, which also led to another conclusion that the facial expression animation had an overall deeper impact on Uncanny Valley phenomenon compared with character's surface treatment. It was the unnatural facial expression animation that controlled all of the independent variables and also caused the Uncanny Valley phenomenon. In order for game characters to evade the Uncanny Valley phenomenon and enhance game immersion, the facial expression animation of the character must be done spontaneously.

  • Pitch period detection algorithms are applied to various speech signal processing fields such as speech recognition, speaker identification, speech analysis and synthesis. Furthermore, many pitch detection algorithms of time and frequency domain have been studied until now. AMDF(average magnitude difference function) ,which is one of pitch period detection algorithms, chooses a time interval from the valley point to the valley point as the pitch period. AMDF has a fast computation capacity, but in selection of valley point to detect pitch period, complexity of the algorithm is increased. In order to apply pitch period detection algorithms to the real world, they have robust prosperities against generated noise in the subway environment etc. In this paper we proposed the modified AMDF algorithm which detects the global minimum valley point as the pitch period of speech signals and used speech signals of noisy environments as test signals.

  • Recently, the population growth, industrial and agricultural development are rapidly undergoing in the Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) in Texas. The Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) composed of the 4 counties and three of them are interesting for Non-point and point source pollutant modeling: Starr, Cameron, and Hidalgo. Especially, the LRGV is an intensively irrigation region, and Texas A&M University Agriculture Program and the New Mexico State University College of Agriculture applied irrigation district program (Guy Fipps and Craig Pope, 1998), projects in GIS and Hydrology based agricultural water management systems and assessment of prioritized protecting stream network, water quality and rehabilitation based on water saving potential in Rio Grande River. In the LRGV region, where point and non-point sources of pollution may be a big concern, because increasing fertilizers and pesticides use and population cause. This project objective seeks to determine the accumulation of non-point and point source and discuss the main impacts of agriculture and environmental concern with water quality related to pesticides, fertilizer, and nutrients within LRGV region. The GIS technique is widely used and developed for the assessment of non-point source pollution in LRGV region. This project shows the losses in kg/$km^2$/year of BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), TN (total Nitrogen) and TP (total phosphorus) in the runoff from the surface of LRGV.

  • The meteorological model WRF is used to investigate the wind circulation in Valle Camonica, Italy, an alpine valley that includes a large subalpine lake. The aim was to obtain the information necessary to evaluate the wind potential of this area and, from a methodological point of view, to suggest how numerical modeling can be used to locate the most interesting spots for wind exploitation. Two simulations are carried out in order to analyze typical scenarios occurring in the valley. In the first one, the diurnal cycle of thermally-induced winds generated by the heating-cooling of the mountain range encircling the valley is analyzed. The results show that the mountain slopes strongly affect the low-level winds during both daytime and nighttime, and that the correct setting of the lake temperature improves the quality of the meteorological fields provided by WRF significantly. The second simulation deals with an event of strong downslope winds caused by the passage of a cold front. Comparisons between simulated and measured wind speed, direction and air temperature are also shown.
