  • We present a method for tracking and interaction based on hybrid sensing for virtual environments. The proposed method is applied to motion tracking of whole areas, including the user's occlusion space, for a high-precision interaction. For real-time motion tracking surrounding a user, we estimate each joint position in the human body using a combination of a depth sensor and a wand-type physical user interface, which is necessary to convert gyroscope and acceleration values into positional data. Additionally, we construct virtual contents and evaluate the validity of results related to hybrid sensing-based whole-body tracking of human motion methods used to compensate for the occluded areas.

  • In this paper, we propose a surveillance system using multi-person tracking in a WIPI based mobile system, which is the standard wireless internet platform. The proposed system consists of two subsystems: the person tracking system and the mobile information transmission system. The person tracking system tracks persons who invade security and the mobile information transmission system sends the tracking results from the person tracking system to the user's mobile phone. In this paper, the person tracking system tracks persons who appear on many cameras with non-overlapping views in order to achieve a wider view. The mobile information transmission system saves automatically tracked data to the owner's web server and transmits the saved data to the user's WIPI mobile phone. Therefore, whenever the user wishes to view tracked data later, the mobile system can provide the user with the tracking results by either the user selecting particular cameras or the time on the owner's mobile phone. The proposed system is a new surveillance system that transfers tracked data among cameras to the user's mobile phone in order to overcome space limitations in tracking areas and monitoring areas and spatial limitations in monitoring hours.

  • The purpose of this study was to collect and analyze personal bio data and social network services (SNS) data, derive user preference and user life pattern, and propose intuitive and precise user modeling. This study not only tried to conduct eye tracking experiments using various smart devices to be the ground of the recommendation system considering the attribute of smart devices, but also derived classification preference by analyzing eye tracking data of collected bio data and SNS data. In addition, this study intended to combine and analyze preference of the common classification of the two types of data, derive final preference by each smart device, and based on user life pattern extracted from final preference and collected bio data (amount of activity, sleep), draw the similarity between users using Pearson correlation coefficient. Through derivation of preference considering the attribute of smart devices, it could be found that users would be influenced by smart devices. With user modeling using user behavior pattern, eye tracking, and user preference, this study tried to contribute to the research on the recommendation system that should precisely reflect user tendency.

  • Human body motion is a non-verbal part for interaction or movement that can be used to involves real world and virtual world. In this paper, we explain a study on natural user interface (NUI) in human hand motion recognition using RGB color information and depth information by Kinect camera from Microsoft Corporation. To achieve the goal, hand tracking and gesture recognition have no major dependencies of the work environment, lighting or users' skin color, libraries of particular use for natural interaction and Kinect device, which serves to provide RGB images of the environment and the depth map of the scene were used. An improved Camshift tracking algorithm is used to tracking hand motion, the experimental results show out it has better performance than Camshift algorithm, and it has higher stability and accuracy as well.

  • The proliferation of many interactive Topic Detection and Tracking (iTDT) systems has motivated researchers to design systems that can track and detect news better. iTDT focuses on user interaction, user evaluation, and user interfaces. Recently, increasing effort has been devoted to user interfaces to improve TDT systems by investigating not just the user interaction aspect but also user and task oriented evaluation. This study investigates the combination of the bag of words and named entities approaches implemented in the iTDT interface, called Interactive Event Tracking (iEvent), including what TDT tasks these approaches facilitate. iEvent is composed of three components, which are Cluster View (CV), Document View (DV), and Term View (TV). User experiments have been carried out amongst journalists to compare three settings of iEvent: Setup 1 and Setup 2 (baseline setups), and Setup 3 (experimental setup). Setup 1 used bag of words and Setup 2 used named entities, while Setup 3 used a combination of bag of words and named entities. Journalists were asked to perform TDT tasks: Tracking and Detection. Findings revealed that the combination of bag of words and named entities approaches generally facilitated the journalists to perform well in the TDT tasks. This study has confirmed that the combination approach in iTDT is useful and enhanced the effectiveness of users' performance in performing the TDT tasks. It gives suggestions on the features with their approaches which facilitated the journalists in performing the TDT tasks.

  • In this paper we develop an indoor location tracking system and its 3D tracking monitoring viewer, viz., 3D Navigation Viewer (3DNV). We focus on the integration of an indoor location tracking system with the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML), to facilitate a representation of the user's spatial information in virtual indoor environments that is synchronized with the physical location environment. The developed indoor location tracking system employs beacons as active transmitters, and a listener as a passive receiver. The distance information calculated from the difference speeds of RF and Ultrasonic signals is exploited, to determine the user's physical location. This is essential in supporting third parties like doctors and caregivers in identifying the activities and status of a particular individual via 3DNV. 3DNV serves as a unified user interface for an indoor location tracking system, showing the viewpoint and position of the target in virtual indoor environments. It was implemented using VRML, to provide an actual real time visualization of the target's spatial information.

  • Deep Learning has become the most important technology in the field of artificial intelligence machine learning, with its high performance overwhelming existing methods in various applications. In this paper, an interactive window service based on object recognition technology is proposed. The main goal is to implement an object recognition technology using this deep learning technology to remove the existing eye tracking technology, which requires users to wear eye tracking devices themselves, and to implement an eye tracking technology that uses only usual cameras to track users' eye. We design an interactive system based on efficient eye detection and pupil tracking method that can verify the user's eye movement. To estimate the view-direction of user's eye, we initialize to make the reference (origin) coordinate. Then the view direction is estimated from the extracted eye pupils from the origin coordinate. Also, we propose a blink detection technique based on the eye apply ratio (EAR). With the extracted view direction and eye action, we provide some augmented information of interest without the existing complex and expensive eye-tracking systems with various service topics and situations. For verification, the user guiding service is implemented as a proto-type model with the school map to inform the location information of the desired location or building.

  • In this paper, we present a hybrid inertial and vision-based tracking system for VR applications. One of the most important aspects of VR (Virtual Reality) is providing a correspondence between the physical and virtual world. As a result, accurate and real-time tracking of an object's position and orientation is a prerequisite for many applications in the Virtual Environments. Pure vision-based tracking has low jitter and high accuracy but cannot guarantee real-time pose recovery under all circumstances. Pure inertial tracking has high update rates and full 6DOF recovery but lacks long-term stability due to sensor noise. In order to overcome the individual drawbacks and to build better tracking system, we introduce the fusion of vision-based and inertial tracking. Sensor fusion makes the proposal tracking system robust, fast, accurate, and low jitter and noise. Hybrid tracking is implemented with Kalman Filter that operates in a predictor-corrector manner. Combining bluetooth serial communication module gives the system a full mobility and makes the system affordable, lightweight energy-efficient. and practical. Full 6DOF recovery and the full mobility of proposal system enable the user to interact with mobile device like PDA and provide the user with natural interface.
