업무상호의존성과 사용자참여가 소프트웨어 개발 프로젝트 성과에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Task Interdependence and User Participation on Software Development Project Performance)

  • Cost overrun or schedule delay of the software development project happens frequently despite that software developers continue to make every effort for the effective management of the projects. Previous researches have ascertained that these problems are ascribed to the uncertainty of projects and the improper management of the projects. The purposes of this research are to investigate the impacts of user participation and task interdependence on the performance of the projects and also to find out the appropriate project management method to improve the project performance. Even though the model fitness of the path model is proved to be very high, the verification of the hypotheses showed a variety of results including the four verifications and the one refutation of the hypotheses as well as the suggestion of one alternative hypothesis. The contribution of this research is that the integration model is proposed and verified, comprising the relationship among the user participation, the task interdependence, and the performance of software development projects. A project manager can utilize the implication of this research for an effective management of software development project.

  • Generally, operators suffer much difficulty in manipulating micro-nano-sized objects without assisting of human interface, due to the scaling effects in micro/nano world. Thus, the micromanipulation system based on the teleoperation techniques enables operators to manipulate the micro objects easily by transferring both human motion and manipulation skills to the micromanipulator.   • The complexity and consistency are important factors that affect human information processing in use of product. In this study, complexity and consistency of product(remote controller) are measured by Task Action Grammar(TAG) model. Also, new design alternative of the user interface is presented and evaluated. The results show that the consistent system and the good correspondence between hierarchical structure of system and user's mental model lead to the reduction of errors and enhanced user's performance.

Designing Coherent User Interfaces of N-Screen Services Reflecting Users' Task Knowledge

  • Objective: Companies want to expand their business by providing their services at other devices and new services based upon existing services. Therefore, they look for building brand identity by providing same experience throughout devices and services. Background: Many services are available to use at multiple devices including mobile phones, tablet, personal computers, and televisions, thanks to proliferation of n-screen and cloud technology. Method: It was discussed that consistency, which emphasizes the regularity and has been one of essential aspects of user interface design, seems not effective to be applied to n-screen services, owing to different screen size, input and output peripherals, usage environment and users' attitude. Results: A new definition of same experience among different devices and services, called coherence, was introduced and abstraction levels of user interfaces were proposed as the denominator of defining coherence. Then types of users' task knowledge at each abstraction level were discussed with examples. Conclusion: This paper concluded by discussing design requirements for designing coherent user interfaces among devices and services.

  • Robot task program is needed to control and manage a Robot without explicitly describing the robot program by user which includes commands, procedures, geometric and signal data in the detail level. To use the Robot task program, a computer system is required to convert the Robot task into the Robot program, which can be understood by the Robot. In this paper, the systemic method for automatic generation of explicit Robot programs (ERP) from task-level commands is described. Specifically, a 3-step procedure including Robot task decomposition, task synchronization and ERP generation is presented.

Performance Improvement of Web Service Based on GPGPU and Task Queue

  • Providing web services to users has become expensive in recent times. For better web services, a web server is provided with high-performance technology. To achieve great web service experiences, tools such as general-purpose graphics processing units (GPGPUs), artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and three-dimensional simulation are widely used. However, graphics processing units (GPUs) are used in high-speed operations and have limited general applications. In this study, we developed a task queue in a GPU to improve the performance of a web service using a multiprocessor and studied how to receive and process user requests in bulk. We propose the use of a GPGPU-based task queue to process user requests more than GPGPU based a central processing unit thread, and to process more GPU threads on task queue at about 136% to 233%, and proved that the proposed method is effective for web service.

Effects of self-disclosure in conversational agents - Comparison of task- and social-oriented dialogues -

  • Previous research has shown that the use of self-disclosure, the process of revealing personal thoughts and feelings, in conversational agents (CAs) increases overall user evaluations. However, research exploring the effects of self-disclosure in different situations or dialogue types is limited. This study investigated the effects of self-disclosure and dialogue type (task- vs. social-oriented) on trust, usefulness, and usage intention. Results showed significant interaction effects between self-disclosure and dialogue type. For CAs that did not use self-disclosure, trust, usefulness, and usage intention were higher in task-oriented dialogues. In contrast, CAs that did use self-disclosure had higher trust, usefulness, and usage intention in social-oriented dialogues. These results suggest that researchers and designers should consider the specific dialogue types and corresponding user goals when adding human qualities, such as self-disclosure, to CAs.

정보검색에서의 사용자 중심 적합성 판단 모형 (User-centered relevance judgement model for information retrieval)

  • 본 연구는 정보검색의 핵심 개념인 적합성을 사용자 중심 관점에서 접근한 연구이다. 적합성에 관한 기존 연구들은 적합성 판단에 영향을 주는 다양한 기준들을 정의해 왔다. 본 연구는 적합성 유형별로 사용자가 적합성을 판단하는 기준과 적합성 유형 간의 관계를 정보 검색 과제별로 연구함으로써 사용자 중심 적합성 판단 모형을 알아보았다. 본 연구는 7개의 사용자 적합성 판단 기준-주제성, 신선성, 신뢰성, 이해가능성, 특수 성, 구체성, 흥미성-과 3가지의 사용자 적합성 유형-인지 적합성, 상황 적합성, 정서 적합성-을 고려하였다. 이를 대학생 사용자들을 대상으로 검색 과제 수행 후 설문에 답하는 반 제어(semi-controlled) 설문 방법을 이용하여 자료를 수집하였고, 구조방정식 모형으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과 주제성, 신뢰성은 모든 검색 과제에 중요한 적합성 판단 기준이었고, 과제 유형별로 볼 때 사실 검색 과제에서는 주제성, 신뢰성, 신선성, 구체성, 흥미성이, 문제 해결 검색 과제에서는 주제성, 신뢰성, 이해가능성, 특수성이, 의사 결정 검색 과제에서는 주제성, 신뢰성, 신선성, 이해가능성, 구체성, 특수성, 흥미성이 적합성을 판단하는 주요 기준들이라는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 적합성 유형들 간의 관계도 실증적으로 밝힐 수 있었다. 본 연구는 적합성 판단 기준과 적합성 유형 간의 관계를 정보 검색 과제별로 확인함으로써 보다 구체적인 사용자 중심의 적합성 판단 모형을 확립하였다는 점에서 의의를 가진다.

  • This paper presents a task planning system for a steward robot, which has been developed as an interactive intermediate agent between an end-user and a complex smart home environment called the ISH (Intelligent Sweet Home) at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). The ISH is a large-scale robotic environment with various assistive robots and home appliances for independent living of the elderly and the people with disabilities. In particular, as an approach for achieving human-friendly human-robot interaction, we aim at 'simplification of task commands' by the user. In this sense, a task planning system has been proposed to generate a sequence of actions effectively for coordinating subtasks of the target subsystems from the given high-level task command. Basically, the task planning is performed under the framework of STRIPS (Stanford Research Institute Problem Solver) representation and the split planning method. In addition, we applied a state-partitioning technique to the backward split planning method to reduce computational time. By analyzing the obtained graph, the planning system decomposes an original planning problem into several independent sub-problems, and then, the planning system generates a proper sequence of actions. To show the effectiveness of the proposed system, we deal with a scenario of a planning problem in the ISH.

소형 원통형 디스플레이를 위한 사용자 정의 핸드 제스처 (User-Defined Hand Gestures for Small Cylindrical Displays)

  • 본 연구는 아직 제품으로 등장하지 않은 플렉시블 디스플레이 기반의 소형 원통형 디스플레이를 위한 사용자 정의 기반의 핸드 제스처 도출을 목표로 한다. 이를 위하여 먼저 소형 원통형 디스플레이의 크기와 기능을 정의하고, 해당 기능 수행을 위한 태스크를 도출하였다. 이후 가상의 원통형 디스플레이 인터페이스와 이를 조작하기 위한 물리적 오브젝트를 각각 구현하여 사용자들이 실제 원통형 디스플레이를 조작하는 것과 유사한 환경을 제작하였고, 제스처 도출을 위한 태스크를 수행했을 경우 발생하는 결과를 가상의 원통형 디스플레이에 제시하여 사용자들이 해당 조작에 적합하다고 판단되는 제스처를 정의할 수 있도록 하였다. 도출된 각 태스크 별 제스처 그룹에서 빈도수를 토대로 대표 제스처를 선정하였으며, 각 제스처에 대한 의견 일치 점수를 도출하였다. 마지막으로 제스처 분석 및 사용자 인터뷰를 기반으로 제스처 도출에 활용되는 멘탈 모델을 관찰 하였다.
