In general, the national rail system put an emphasis on distribution planing of stations for smooth operation of transporting goods, train allocation, parking, and maintenance. Since the national rail system is operated on the ground level, it is feasible to improve various aspects of the system during its operation. On the contrary, urban rail system is operated in the limited space under the ground, and thus, improving various aspects of the system during its operation is infeasible. Specifically, the urban subway system must have a comprehensive track distribution plan because the urban subway system has to operate in a limited environment such as it operates in a much shorter time period, The subway system has to be ready for various operations and events such as trains returning in the opposite direction. parking trains that need repair, parking during night time, storing various maintenance equipments, and connections to other tracks. Furthermore, considering the future extension of tracks, a comprehensive track distribution plan is a must.
Most of the surveillance systems are based on CCTV, closed circuit Television. A surveillance system for urban transit is also based on CCTV. Urban transit operation corporations have a CCTV system and a lot of cameras to monitor the situation for the passengers, and the important facilities. But this system has some problems that it cannot respond to a state of emergency immediately. In this paper, we describe a configuration of an intelligent surveillance system for urban transit to solve that problems. Our proposed configuration include a camera with some intelligent module, and a processor to integrate various data from not only cameras, but also sensors such as a temperature sensor, a heat sensor, sound sensor and etc. and some other data generator. This system configuration can decide the state of the passengers and the facilities. The surveillance system with this configuration can available with the existing surveillance system without a considerable improvement.
With the rapid development of Urban Mass Transit in China, the Intelligent Transport System becomes inevitable. Based on the brief introduction of the blueprint of Urban Mass Transit in Shanghai, this paper analyses in detail the components and functions of Automatic Train Control (ATC) system applied in Shanghai Metro, presents the key technology of the main three subsystems of the ATC system : Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) subsystem, Automatic Train Protection (ATP) subsystem, Automatic Train Operation (ATO) subsystem. After reading this paper, you will have an general grasp of ATC system. At the end of the paper, it suggests a good resolution about the ATC system equipment to be made in China. If you are interested in the resolution, we'd like to exchange our thought.
Water conveyance from waste water treatment plant can play a role in securing river water quantitatively in urban watershed, but it can also cause more severe contamination of river water due to lack of water quality management. Soil aquifer treatment(SAT) has been introduced to overcome the worsening water quality in the water conveyance system considering the characteristics of Korean urban watershed. The application of SAT to the water conveyance system not only improve water quality of ordinarily discharged water but also prevent accidential water pollution to the urban watershed. Since most domestic urban watersheds are consist of narrow terrace lands and surrounded by roads, SAT is estimated not to be appropriate to the urban watershed with respect to the quantitative efficiency. However, since the upstream of urban watershed in which discharge ports are located usually consists of agricultural lands, SAT can be applied near discharge ports. Therefore, combination of water conveyance and SAT is expected to supply clean and safe river water in urban watershed.

Japan has been tried to integrate Western planning theories into its parks and green systems in the past. However this effect has been regarded unsuccessful. One of reasons for this is that the green systems have been treated as an urban facility, instead as systems. Another reason has to deal with greenbelt's stationary and reservation characteristics that make difficulty to respond timely to the rapid urbanization. The parks and green systems in Korea was introduced in 1990 and began to be promoted fully with the 'Parte and Green Master Plan' established in 2005. However, due to its short history, incomplete aspects exist in its philosophy and methods for promoting the system. Based on these experiences, the current green zone plans in Japan considers the green structure as an independent institution and amenity plan, not a tool of urban planning, that can be a medium for realization of urban visions. And main characteristics of this approach are 1) classifying the green structure into four categories in order to respond to urban forms and purposes, 2) pursuing confirmity with urban planning, and 3) executing the landscape plan based upon core green areas. From reviews upon experiences of Japan as well as considerations on demands and conditions of green systems in Korea, we proposed the following five new strategies for the construction of the urban parte and green system in Korea. They are 1) to develop urban parks and green systems into a genre of urban development improving the quality and local competitiveness of cities rather than a means of urban planning; 2) to form the integrated structure of urban green zones; 3) to transform the urban parte and green systems into practical systems as the centers of localities; 4) to raise criteria for planning and execution plans for effective implementations of the urban parte and green systems, and 5) to provide specific guidelines for the construction of urban parks and green systems through organizing research groups or specialists.

The aimed to development general management system that can manage diverse facilities of city using RFID. Defining data format of items in each management, type and code for the urban facilities, the researcher designed database of urban facilities through the process of establishing logic model and data modelling. By inputting designed database into RFID Tag of each urban facilities and using RFID Reader and PDA, the researcher developed system that can efficiently manage the basic attributes and information and management information of urban facilities. Further, it was found that the characteristics of RFID Tag and GPS should improve the optimal hardware combination and PDA performance for the surrounding environmental influence and system performance.
Planning Support System (PSS), an alternative framework of computer-aided planning system combining geographic information system (GIS), urban models, and visualization tools, has been actively researched and applied in many developed countries. This paper introduces a PSS-based land use change model, What if\ulcorner PSS, by applying it to Chongju City, Korea. This model application study used the spatial database, Restricted Development Zone (RDZ), and other hypothetical land supply- and demand-related policies of Chongju City. The collaborative PSS model supported land use planning process by helping users to speedily and easily create and test policy-oriented scenarios. The study found that the fully operational PSS model was readily applicable and useful to Korean local land use planning. The paper discusses the conceptual model framework, data requirement, application process, model output, and practical usage. This study would be considered as a prototypical approach of PSS-based land use plan making for Korean cities.
In this study, two standard specifications such as GML (Geography Markup Language) from OGC (Open Geo-spatial Consortium, Inc.) and X3D (extensible 3D) from Web3D consortium were dealt with for a web-based 3D urban application without using commercialized tools. In the first step of this study, DEM (Digital Elevation Model) and 3D GIS data sets were converted to GML structure with attribute schema. Then, these GML elements were projected onto a common coordinate system, and they were converted to the X3D format for visualization on web browser. In this work, a 3D urban data model, as a simple framework model, is extended to a framework model having further detailed information, depending upon application levels. Conclusively, this study is to demonstrate for practical uses of GML and X3D in 3D urban application and this approach can be applied to other application domains regarding system integrators and data sharing communities on distributed environments.

This study analyzed the current Urban Disaster Management System(UDMS) and proposed improvements, focusing on fire-fighting. We learned the problems with the UDMS empirically, conducting a survey intended for officials in fire station in various prefectures include big city, 6 metropolitan city and Gyeonggi-do. The problems with the UDMS were classified mainly into problems with law operating system, administration system and systematic countermeasures. As a result, it was found that regions that include Seoul and other big cities manage urban disasters better than the prefectures of which Gyeonggi-do and others are parts Consequently, it is desirable to cater appropriate Urban Disaster Management Systems into each of the two parts, one for big cities and the other for prefecture.
During the last several years, the geographic information system(GIS) technology has emerged as a very effective tool for analyzing complicated groundwater system Linking GIS to spatially distributed hydrogeological data and groundwater models offers many advantages in the analysis of urban groundwater system. This paper describes the urban hydrogeological application of GIS in Seoul area. This study constructs an urban hydrogeological database via pre- and post-processing of various types of urban hydrogeological data, such as groundwater-level fluctuation, topogaphic data, water chemistry data, subway pimping station data, tidal effect of the Han River, and hydrogeological parameters. A hydrogeological model has been designed to enable importing data from the database and providing the model output for the repetitive manipulation and display in GIS.
