The impact of outdoor environment on residential noise level satisfaction: GIS-based Analysis

  • Urban residents in crowded complexes are making increasing civil complaints about noise and demanding pleasant and comfortable residential environments. Because noise is one of the most important factors related to urban residents' dissatisfaction with their living environments, the present study investigates the direct and indirect effects of noise-related outdoor environmental factors on residential level satisfaction, using noise level data from 29 noise-measuring stations in Seoul. From 62 multi-family apartment complexes near these stations, the authors collected GIS-based environmental attribute data, as well as survey data including the residents' personal characteristics and indicators designed to measure latent psychological characteristics: noise sensitivity and residential noise level satisfaction. This study then utilized structural equation models to analyze the direct variables influencing the latent variables of noise sensitivity and residential noise level satisfaction, as well as the complex relationships among all variables. The result showed that residents who are exposed to less noise, possibly due to living in apartments facing relatively quiet roads, protected by soundproof walls, or surrounded by densely planted trees, tend to be less noise sensitive, which makes them more satisfied with the ambient noise level. Therefore, critical outdoor environmental variables can be used to reduce noise sensitivity and improve residential noise level satisfaction.

  • The aims of this study was to provide information of sites to potential buyers and apartment builders through a comparative investigation on the urban criteria in 5 disDicts of Usan city Mugeo, Daun, Guhwa, Guyoung, and Cheonsang. The content analysis method was used to determine the urban factors which reviewed the urban and environment plan legal system and contents of plans which analyzed the housing characteristics in Ulsan city. Also utilized were professional's opinion and various emphasized elements such as the location of apartments through newspaper advertisement from 1990 to 1999. The urban evaluation factors used in this study were degree of air and noise pollulion, traffic facilities, land use, living environment and economics. Major findings are as follows: Mugeo area has the most convenience community facilities, Guyoung and Cheonsang areas have excellent natural environment-air and noise pollution.

  • Reasonably accurate estimation of the exposed population to the distinct levels of noise is essential to the efficient management of urban environmental noise. This study proposes a method of calculating the number of exposed people to industrial noise by using GIS tool and noise mapping. The exposed population of noise based on estimation of the number of people that lived in each building in urban area is compared with the one based on density of population. This study suggests the five step method that consists of gathering the fundamental data, extracting the property from the digital map, noise mapping based on the three dimensional topography, estimating population that lives in each building, merging the various results with GIS tool, and estimating exposed population to industrial noise through analyzing the noise map with GIS tools.

  • eVTOL PAV의 상용화에 있어 해결해야할 중요한 과제들 중 하나는 도심항공 모빌리티 운용에 따른 소음을 감소시키는 것이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 우리나라 수도권 행정구역별 인구 분포 데이터를 분석하여 소음에 영향을 받는 인구수가 최소화될 수 있도록 AEDT (aviation environmental design tool) 소프트웨어를 사용하여 소음 우선 경로를 생성하고, 운용 시의 소음 분석을 수행하였다. 또한, 최단 거리 경로 운영 시 소음에 영향을 받는 인구수와 비교하여 소음 우선 경로가 소음 노출을 얼마만큼 감소시킬 수 있는지 분석하였다. eVTOL PAV 개발 회사에서 소음 데이터를 제공하지 않는다는 점을 감안하여 헬리콥터 모델을 사용하여 분석을 진행하였다. 결과적으로 소음 노출량을 최소화한 소음 우선 경로가 타 경로들에 비해 더 효율적임을 증명하였다.

1.5경계 양분선택형 모형을 이용한 도시소음 저감의 편익 추정 (Using One and One-half Bounded Dichotomous Choice Model to Measure the Economic Benefits of Urban Noise Reduction)

  • 최근 도시환경에 있어서 소음의 문제가 주목을 받고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 수도권 도시소음 저감의 편익을 추정하고자 한다. 이를 위해 양분선택형 조건부 가치측정법을 적용한다. 특히 단일경계 모형에 비해 효율성을 제고하면서 이중경계 모형에 비해 편의를 줄일 수 있도록 최근에 개발된 1.5경계 모형을 이용한다. 무작위 추출된 수도권 800가구를 대상으로 한 일대일 개별면접을 통해 도시소음 저감정책에 대해 얼마나 지불할 의사가 있는지를 물었다. 응답자들은 전반적으로 조건부 시장을 잘 받아들였으며, 가구당 월평균 977원에서 1,778원의 지불의사액을 가지고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 지불의사는 도시소음에 대한 인식, 거주지역, 수도권 거주기간, 소득 등과 같은 가구특성변수에 유의하게 영향을 받았다. 이 값을 수도권 연두대상 지역 전체로 확장하였더니 연간 약 792.6억 원에서 1,413.5억 원에 해당하였다.

  • Korean society is faced with various new problems arising from the development projects of new towns, industrial cities, large-scale residential complexes, etc. started from the 1970s. Particularly with the construction of residential and industrial complexes by the roadsides, they are openly exposed to road traffic noise and vibration. Thus, the objective of this study is to examine using noise maps how increasing traffic volume affects road traffic noise and what problems it causes in areas where new towns or complexes are constructed by development projects. According to the results of this study, in areas around the sites of development projects, the noise level increased by road traffic noise compared to that before development and was 1.16~6.92 times higher than the environmental noise standard, but measures to reduce road traffic noise was lukewarm. In addition, areas with soundproof facilities showed a noise level 1~3 step lower than other areas, and in individual buildings, the noise level on the side facing the road was 1~2 step higher than that on the rear side.

U-City 건설을 위한 LiDAR 자료를 이용한 도심지 도로교통소음 영향의 시뮬레이션 분석 (Noise Simulation of Road Traffic in Urban Area Using LiDAR Data for U-City Construction)

  • 본 연구에서는 주요한 소음원의 하나인 도로교통소음의 도심지에서의 전파양상과 피해정도의 명확한 분석을 위해 항공 LiDAR자료를 이용하여 건축물이 포함되지 않은 지형자료(DEM; Digtal Elevation Model) 및 건축물 정보가 포함된 지형자료(DBM; Digital Building Model)를 각각 작성하고, 각 자료별로 소음영향평가를 수행하여 그 결과를 비교하였다. 그 결과, 건축물 정보가 없는 경우 도로교통소음의 전파로 인하여 연구대상지역의 약 60%의 면적이 60dB(A) 이상의 소음께 노출되는 것으로 분석되었으나. 건축물 정보가 있는 경우는 약 30% 정도의 면적만이 노출되는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한, 정온한 환경으로 인식되는$45{\sim}50dB$(A)소음도구간의 면적이 건축물이 없는 경우 0%에서 건축물이 있는 경우 43%로 나타나 건축물에 의해 도로교통소음의 전파양상이 크게 영향을 받는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 정확한 도로교통소음의 영향을 예측하기 위해서는 건축물 형상에 대한 정보가 필수적으로 포함하여야 할 것으로 판단되었다. 이러한 연구의 결과를 토대로 향후 항공 LiDAR 측량 등을 통하여 전국적인 규모의 건축물 정보가 획득된다면, 도로교통량정보를 이용한 도로교통소음 영향평가를 효율적으로 수행할 수 있을 것으로 판단되며, 이는 U-City 등과 같은 대규모 도시건설에서 소음문제예방, 교통계획 및 시공계획 수립 등을 위한 기초자료로서 활용이 가능할 것이다.

  • Currently, there are various sounds in the urban surrounding environment such as natural, human, mechanical or sound, etc., and these urban environmental sounds remain in several memories according to magnitude, repetition, learning and experience of sounds. However, there are limitations in memorizing these environmental sounds, thus they are forgotten or reminded, or replaced with new ones from time to time. This study was attempted to look into the changes of the memory of noisiness annoyance and sharpness of the suggested sound sources with urban environmental sounds as time goes by and the order of memorization of the sound sources.

도심 공원의 소리연출에 의한 사운드스케이프 개선 효과에 관한 실험적 연구 (An experimental study on the effect of soundscape with providing sound in urban parks)

  • This study is an experimental study to introduce the soundscape design for urban parks. subjective response to soundscape for 4 urban park are carried out using 7 scale S.D. method which are included 25 adjective pairs. In order to recognized the effect environmental sound(bird singing, sweet environmental music, nature sound) for enriching the present sondscape, this study analyse the subject response for soundscape after and before using the environmental sound. The degree of satisfaction for visual atmosphere is higher than for auditory atmosphere of parks, this means that visual clues are much more effective to the environment condition than auditory clues. The effect of using the environmental sound is positive and effective to enrich the soundscape. On providing environmental sounds, it is necessary to consider the charcteristics of urban parks.

도시 소녹지공간 어메니티 증진을 위한 교통소음 Masking Models 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of Masking Models for the Improvement of Amenity at Urban Small Green Spaces)

  • The primary objective of this research was to develop optimal models for masking the road traffic noise with the sound of a waterfall at urban small green spaces. Noise levels were measured at 8 roadside green spaces in SEOUL and questionnaires were randomly distributed to 40 users for evaluating the noise at each site at the same time. College students participated in the experiment for the development of masking models and the developed models were tested by users at 2 green spaces. The major results are as follows ; 1. Traffic noises ranged from 65dBto 70 dB. Users' satisfaction with the noise became considerably low on the basis of 60 dB and it was highly related to noise level. 2. Noise was a main factor to depreciate the amenity of green spaces where its level was more than 60 dB and so it neds to be excluded or reduced the traffic noise at the process of design. 3. Masking effects kept constant independent of the spatial location of masker on condition that masker levels were equal. It was effective when masker was 5-10dB greater than noise level which was masked. 4. As noise level went up, satisfaction ratings about the masked noise became low but masking effects increased in proportion to its level. 5. It was proved that the models were valid through the field experiment.
