  • The purpose of this study was to develop prediction models for plant species abundance by stream restoration. Generally the stream plant is affected by stream gemophology. So in this study, the relationship between the vegetation abundance and stream gemophology was developed by multiple regression analysis. The stream characteristics utilized in this study were longitudinal slope, transectional slope, micro-landforms through the longitudinal direction, riparian width and geometric mean diameter and biggest diameter of bed material, and cumulated coarse and fine sand weight portion. The Pyungchang River with mountainous watershed and the Kyungan stream and the Bokha stream in the agricultural region were selected and vegetation species abundance and stream characteristics were documented from the site at 2~3km intervals from the upper stream to the lower. The Models for predicting the vegetation abundance were developed by multiple regression analysis using SPSS statistics package. The linear relationship between the dependant(species abundance) and independant(stream characteristics) variables was tested by a graphical method. Longitudinal and transectional slope had a nonlinear relationship with species abundance. In the next step, the independance between the independant variables was tested and the correlation between independant and dependant variables was tested by the Pearson bivariate correlation test. The selected independant variables were transectional slope, riparian width, and cumulated fine sand weight portion. From the multiple regression analysis, the $R^2$for the Pyungchang river, Kyungan stream, Bokga stream were 0.651, 0.512 and 0.240 respectively. The natural stream configuration in the Pyungchang river had the best result and the lower $R^2$for Kyunan and Bokha stream were due to human impact which disturbed the natural ecosystem. The lowest $R^2$for the Bokha stream was due to the shifting sandy bed. If the stream bed is fugitive, the prediction model may not be valid. Using the multiple regression models, the vegetation abundance could be predicted with stream characteristics such as, transection slope, riaparian width, cumulated fine sand weigth portion, after stream restoration.

  • Exact estimation of evapotranspiration is important to understand natural phenomena and social issues associated with the climate such as irrigation scheme, reservoir water management, and many other meteorological and climatological problems. To overcome limits of point measurement of evapotranspiration, several models have been developed through the techniques of remote sensing and Geographical Information System. SEBAL model is one of them, based on the energy balance equation, and it has a lot of advantages such as that it requires relatively small empirical relations. In this study, the SEBAL model has been calibrated and validated in Geumgang upper basin, Bochung-stream basin, Korea with 5 satellite images Landsat 5 TM. In validation, the results of SEBAL model were compared with those by Merton method. After validation, the spatial and temporal characteristics of the distribution of evapotranspiration within the basin were analyzed with 3 factors, the aspect of slope, the angle of slope, and the land cover.

  • Our ancestor has accumulated inimitable a building system from experience. and they finally invented Gu-dul that heat the stone as a hitting system. The purpose of this study is to investigate and to write down the on Excavation & Restoration of Traditional Gu-dul in Young-dong. It was found that Gu-dul was the most suited for natural condition. That is wind, direction, earth level. As the results of analyzing the built- technque of traditional Gu- dul : 1) The Gu-dul type is lined, scattered, and mixed. 2) The hight of bank is 25-30cm, 3) The depth of Gaejari is 30-45cm, and The slope of that is gentle. 4) The slope of Gorae(a floor hitter) is 5 - 8%. (from the middle to the edge and from the lower part to the upper part) Therefore, For the practical application of future houses, it will be needed to develop the reasonable hitting system, and suggest to set up Gu-dul for our health and saving energy.

  • The geumjunggu of the onchunchun which is the upper stream have been maintained as a too much picture to become a concrete lining about existing low flow channel and the reservoir water protecting banks for the reason of the flow of an upper stream steep slope and back of the shortage of the channel area in a suitableness interval. This research made a rating-curve to decide since to ensure against risks to the flood control through the undo of the rivers. And we found the speed of current of a nature undo interval and existing concrete interval and water level change out. A result from this natural disposition we must apply as a data for the research about the plan to be established in the rivers maintenance basis plan of onchunchun.

  • In practice, the natural slopes are frequently with soils of spatial properties and irregular features. The traditional limit analysis method meets an inherent difficulty to deal with the stability problem for such slopes due to the normal condition in the associated flow rule. To overcome the problem, a novel technique based on the upper bound limit analysis, which is called the discretization technique, is employed for the stability evaluation of complex slopes. In this paper, the discretization mechanism for complex slopes was presented, and the safety factors of several examples were calculated. The good agreement between the discretization-based and previous results shows the accuracy of the proposed mechanism, proving that it can be an alternative and reliable approach for complex slope stability analysis.

  • This paper provides a mathematical approach for estimating flood risks due to the effects of climate change by developing a one dimensional (1D) hydraulic model for the mountainous river reaches located close to the Yeongwol thermal power plant. Input data for the model, including topographical data and river discharges measured every 10 minutes from July $1^{st}$ to September $30^{th}$, 2013, were imported to a 1D hydraulic model. Climate change scenarios were estimated by referencing the climate change adaptation strategies of the government and historical information about the extreme flood event in 2006. The down stream boundary was determined as the friction slope, which is 0.001. The roughness coefficient of the main channels was determined to be 0.036. The results show the effectiveness of the riverbed widening strategy through the six flooding scenarios to reduce flood depth and flow velocity that impact on the power plant. In addition, the impact of upper Namhan River flow is more significant than Dong River.

  • A multi-function weir is representative control structure in the stream flow. Estimation of accurate flood discharge according to gate operations and prediction of floodwave travel times at the downstream are very important in terms of water use and river management. This study analyzed the limitation and improvement through the current gate operation data on the Young-san river. in addition, flood discharge was calculated considering lower and upper water level condition and gate operating using the modified slope-area method in the Seoung-chon weir. As a result, the current state was required improvement because exceed the theoretical range and rapidly fluctuation of discharge coefficient, can not be considered difference between the upper and lower water level and the estimation by the regression equation. As a result of applying the proposed method in this study, the above mentioned limitations can be compensated, compared with the current discharge data. Also it was analyzed as more physically valid because using the evaluated hydraulic equation and estimate the slope and friction loss of natural stream by iteration and to reduce the error. In conclusion, the process carried out serves as a representative flow control point of the water system through reliable discharge estimation, it is expected that it will be possible to properly river management.

  • The study area adjoins with Yangsan fault in Sangbuk-myeon, Samsam-ri, Kyongsang-namdo and consist of the natural steep slope. After drawing data layer which have altitude by using digital topography data, it is converted to lattice DEM of $10m{\times}10m$ size. From this, gradient map of unit lattice, slant direction map and shadow relif map are made. Using flow apportioning algorithm, upper slope contributing area and wetness index by established lattice can be calculated. Area that have high wetness index shows lineament structure of northwest-southeast direction, and this agrees with shear fracture system. The result of electricity specific resistance survey in the study area shows that area of high wetness index has low electricity specific resistance anomaly. That is, wetness index conforms with distribution of fractured zone that accompanied chemical weathering of rock. Therefore, wetness index can be used as the method of detecting fractured zones and judging the stability of the area.

  • Evapotranspiration is one of important variables affecting ecosystem processes such as vegetation distribution and growth. It acts as a limiting factor for natural water resource management. The transpiration of vegetation is mainly determined by climatic factors. The lower slope of the study area was densely forested with Pinus densiflora S. et Z. of 8 m height, and the upper slope was covered with poorly grown Pinus densiflora S. et Z. and Quercus trees. The amount of evapotranspiration was estimated to 590.3 mm/yr by annual water budget method. The canopy resistance of Penman-Monteith model was determined as 99 s/m. Seasonal evapotranspiration can be estimated with the calculated evaporation and the canopy resistance. The amount of evapotranspiration peaked in May. That is considered from both the direct evaporation of intercepted rainfall and the transpiration of vegetation during the dry spring season.
