  • This study aimed to identify changes in upper body measurements and body shape types among women over a 10-year period based on data from the 6th and 8th Size Korea Anthropometric Surveys. The study used regression analysis to explore the relationship between various dimensions, enabling the prediction of different upper body dimensions based on height and waist circumference. The sample consisted of 1,179 women in their 20s who participated in the 6th (2010) and 8th (2020) Size Korea Anthropometric Surveys, with 33 items analyzed. Initially, most items, except those related to height, exhibited larger values in the 8th Survey than in the 6th, suggesting a general increase in the upper body dimensions of females in their 20s over the 10-year period. Subsequent factor analysis revealed three factors crucial for determining the upper body shape of women in this age group. The body shapes were then categorized into four distinct clusters. Regression analysis indicated that both waist circumference and height significantly influence most of the measured items, with waist circumference having a more substantial impact in most models. Through this research, we aim to provide foundational data that reflects the evolving upper body shapes of women in their 20s to enhance clothing production and improve the sizing system.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the influence of the topping time and height on the nonvolatile organic and higher fatty acid contents and the correlation among acid contents of tobacco plants. Within the topping time, the flowering (normal) stage of topping was the lowest in total analyzed acid (TAA), total nonvolatile organic acid (TNOA) and magic acid contents of NC2326, however, the highest in those of Burley 21 on 30 days after budding. Total higher fatty acid (THFA) and linoleic acid contents tended to be low with normal stage of topping. The lower the topping height, the lower the TAA, THFA and linoleic acid contents in middle and upper leaves (or NC2326 and Burley 21 were observed. On the other hand, the lower the topping height, the lower the TNOA and malic acid contents in middle and upper leaves for Burley 21 and upper leaves for NC2326 were found. There was a significant positive correlation between magic acid and TNOA contents. Similarly, TAA content showed a significant positive correlation with TNOA, oxalic acid and citric acid contents. But there was a negative correlation between malic acid and THFA contents. There were highly positive correlations among oleic acid, linoleic acid and THFA contents, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine whether any difference existed in craniofacial morphology between cleft children and normal subjects. Thirty three measurements of the various regions of cranium and face were obtained from lateral cephalometric radiograms in 40 cleft children(27 males, 13 females) and 40 normal subjects(23 males, 17 females) in our dental hospital from Jan. 1988 to Dec. 1995.The measurements were compared with those in control subjects who had no history of craniofacial abnormalities. The obtained results were as follows: 1. In the cranium, the cleft children had singificantly shorter posterior cranial base length(S-Ba) and total antero-posterior cranial base length(N-Ba) (P<0.05). 2. In the upper face, the cleft children had significantly shorter upper anterior facial height(N-ANS) and upper posterior facial height(Ptm'-SNL) (P<0.05). 3. In the lower face, the cleft children had significantly shorter antero-posterior mandibular length(Pog-Ar) and antero-posterior mandibular body length(Pog-Go) (P<0.05). 4. In the facial profile, the cleft children had significantly shorter total facial height(N-Me} and posterior facial height(S-Go) (P<0.05).

  • A special upper-air observation including airsonde and pibal observations was performed to investigate the characteristics features of the vertical distribution of the meteorological elements over Taegu on a selected clear day of each season from October 1991 to August 1992. The diurnal and seasonal variations of the vertical profiles of air temperature and mixing ratio were obtained from airsonde observations and wind speed and direction from pibal observations. The results of these special upper-air observations are as follow : The diurnal variation of the vertical distribution of air temperature reveals the characteristic features associated with the atmospheric boundary layer. All case days, except for the summer season, show upper-level inversion layer which influenced by surface high, and surface inversion layer produced by radiative cooling. The diurnal variation of mixing ratio shows the maximum vale at 1500 LST in both the upper and low levels, and is larger on the lower level than the upper level. The mixing ratio of the lower level is larger than that of the upper level. On the average the mixing ratio decrease with the height, and is the wettest on the summer case day and the driest on the winter case day. The diurnal variation of the wind velocity and direction are variable in the lower level with time and height, while they are steady in the upper level. On the average, the wind direction is southerly or southeasterly for the summer case day, westerly or northwesterly for the spring and fall case days, and northerly or northwesterly for the winter case day.

  • Spatial structure does not have columns and walls installed inside, so they have a large space. There are upper structure and substructure supporting them. The response of seismic loads to the upper structure may be increased or decreased due to the effects of the substructure. Therefore, in this study, the seismic response of the upper structure and the floor response spectrum of the substructure were compared and analyzed according to the height of the substructure in the spatial structure where the LRB was installed. As a result, the possibility of amplification of response was confirmed as seismic waves passed though the substructure, which is likely to increase the response of the upper structures.

  • Shape optimization of an upper plenum of a PBMR type gas cooled nuclear reactor has been performed by using three-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) analysis and surrogate modeling technique. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of uniformity of flow distribution in the core and pressure drop in the upper plenum and the core. The ratio of thickness of slot to diameter of rising channels, ratio of height of upper plenum to diameter of rising channels, and ratio of height of the slot at inlet to outlet, are used as design variables for optimization. Design points are selected through Latin-hypercube sampling. The optimal point is determined through surrogate-based optimization method which uses 3-D RANS analyses at design points. The results show that the optimum shape represent remarkably improved performance in flow uniformity and friction loss than the reference shape.

  • A roentgenographic cephalometric study was made on the soft and hard tissue profile of Korean adults. The subject consisted of 52 males and 54 females from 17 to 22 years of age and with normal occlusion and acceptable profile. Twenty one landmarks were plotted and two oriented lines named SnH line and SnV line were drawn on the tracings of all cephalograms. The means and the standard deviations from the subjects were calculated in each measuring category and the means were compared with those of male and femal samples. The results were obtained as follow: 1. In depth and height, individual variations and sex differences of the lower facial profile were larger than the upper face. 2. The sex differences of upper facial profile were larger in height than depth. 3. The individual variations and sex differences of the top of nose were the smallest in all measuring points. 4. The thickness of the soft tissue of upper face and upper lip in male sample were larger than those of female, but the same matter were not found in mental region.

  • Patients who want to reduce their lip protrusion usually estimate the severity of the lip protrusion on the frontal aspect. Most orthodontists have a perplexed experience of a reduced thin line of vermilion border on the frontal aspect as incisors we retracted, even though the lip protrusion is thought to be reduced favorably on the sagittal aspect. Some patients also look older after orthodontic treatment because of severe lip thinning. This unaesthetic reduction of vermilion border urges us to study the vertical lip change during orthodontic procedure. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the vertical lip and perioral soft tissue changes in respect to incisor retraction in an effort to analyze which factors might be responsible for their vertical changes, using the multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows. 1. Upper and lower lip philtrum length(SnLs, LiB') were increased after retraction of anterior teeth, where as upper and lower vermilion height(LsSuls, StmiLi), and vermilion length(LsLi) were decreased. 2. Upper and lower lip length(SnStms, StmiB'), and soft tissue lower anterior facial height(SnMe') did not show any significant difference after treatment. 3. The increase of the upper lip philtrum length was mainly influenced by the extrusion of upper anterior teeth(${\Delta}U1V$), and the increase of the lower lip philtrum length was mainly influenced by the initial overjet before treatment. 4. The decrease of the upper and lower lip vermilion height was mainly influenced by the decrease of upper lip thickness.

  • Prostatic length and height on sagittal images and prostatic width and height on transverse images were measured ultrasonographically to establish upper limit of the prostate in 45 dogs which were clinically healthy and sexuallly intact. Linear 5regression and correlatin analysis were performed between prostatic parameters(length and height on sagittal images & width and height on transverse images) and parameters related to body size(body weight, left kidney length) and age of the dogs. Prostatic parameters were significantly correlated with body size and age of the dogs. Maximum predicted values with body weight and age for prostatic parameters were determined based o the upper limit of the 95% confidence interval of the mean predicted values. Such values should be useful for the small animal clinicians in determining if the prostate gland is too large for a given body weight and age, and may contribute to clinicl signs.

  • This study aims at designing sleeves which are suitable for arm shapes and arm movements. With the samples of of ordinary 24 women aged from 20 to 22, the arm shapes and movements were measured 3-dimensionally using a motion analyzer and a sonic digitizer, and then clasified into three characteristic types (A, B, and C). Our analysis leads to the following conclusion. The factors classifying arm shapes are the length from acromion to posterior armpit point, arm hole length, the cap height, difference in height between anterior and posterior armpit points, armhole circumference, upper arm circumferemce, armhole depth, and underarm circumference. The characteristics of arm type A is that the armhole depth and the length from acromion to posterior armpit point are the largest, while the circumference inbe- tween upper arm and elbow is the smallest among the three arm types. Thus, the large circumference difference between upper and lower arms is the most notable in arm type A. The factors classifying arm shapes for arm type B are the smallest except for the circumference inbetween upper arm and elbow which is larger than that for arm type A. The circumference difference betweemn upper and lower arms is small for arm type B. Arm type C has the smallest armhole depth, while other factors are similar to those for arm type B. In type C, the size of upper arm is comparatively small on the frontal plane, while it is the largest on the sagital plane.
