The unsteady mixed convection Casson type MHD nanofluid flow in the stagnation point with motile microorganism around a spinning sphere is investigated. Time dependent flow dynamics is considered. Similarity transformations have been employed to transfer the governing partial differential structure into ordinary differential structure. The impact of distinct parameters is examined via tables and graphs. The impact of rotational parameter (spin) on profiles of velocity profiles, temperature and concentration is revealed for unsteady mixed convection Casson type MHD nanofluid flow. It is observed that it is clear that rotational parameter has a great effect on non-dimensional primary velocity component but rotational parameter has a slight impact on non-dimensional secondary velocity component. The validity of the current investigation is authorized through comparing the existing outcomes with previous published literature.
Unsteady fluid dynamics analysis of flow characteristics inside a Metal DPF system is done using a commercial CAE software, CFD-ACE+. The time profiles of both temperature and pressure of exhaust gas are given as initial conditions. It was found that the position of connecting pipes and the numbering of exhaust gases did not affect the flow uniformity. The presence of a DPF resulted in the significant flow nonuniformity effect on the flow characteristics at the inlet of the DPF. Present results can be applied to the selection of optimal geometry that produces uniform flow characteristics inside a DPF system.

This paper deals with the CFD analysis of cavitating flow in the mixed-flow pump with the specific speed of 1.64 which suffers from a high level of noise and vibrations close to the optimal flow coefficient. The ANSYS CFX package has been used to solve URANS equations together with the Rayleigh-Plesset model and the SST-SAS turbulence model has been employed to capture highly unsteady phenomena inside the pump. The CFD analysis has provided a good picture of the cavitation structures inside the pump and their dynamics for a wide range of flow coefficients and NPSH values. Cavitation instabilities were detected at 70% of the optimal flow coefficient close to the NPSH3 value (NPSH3 is the net positive suction head required for the 3% drop of the total head of the pump).

This paper presents a simultaneous solution algorithm for one-dimensional unsteady flow routing through a dendritic channel system. This simulations solution algorithm is based on the double-sweep method and utilizes separate recursion equations for continuity, momentum and energy equations for each of the individual components of a dendritic channel system. Through separate recursion equations for each of the components. the new algorithm converts a dendritic channel network problem into a single-channel problem. The new algorithm is utilized in conjunction with a linearized unsteady flow model using full dynamic flow equations. The required computer storage for the coefficient matrix of the whole system is reduced significantly from the $2N{\times}2N$ matrix to a $2N{\times}4$ matrix, where N is the number of cross sections used in the computation of flow variables in a dendritic channel system. The algorithm presented in this paper provides an efficient and accurate modeling of unsteady flow events through a dendritic channel system.
To implement the insects' flapping flight for developing flapping MAVs(micro air vehicles), the unsteady flow characteristics of the insects' forward flight is investigated. In this paper, two-dimensional FSI(Fluid-Structure Interaction) simulations are conducted to examine realistic flow features of insects' flapping flight and to examine the flexibility effects of the insect's wing. The unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with an artificial compressibility method are implemented as the fluid module while the dynamic finite element equations using a direct integration method are employed as the solid module. In order to exchange physical information to each module, the common refinement method is employed as the data transfer method. Also, a simple and efficient dynamic grid deformation technique based on Delaunay graph mapping is used to deform computational grids. Compared to the earlier researches of two-dimensional rigid wing simulations, key physical phenomena and flow patterns such as vortex pairing and vortex staying can still be observed. For example, lift is mainly generated during downstroke motion by high effective angle of attack caused by translation and lagging motion. A large amount of thrust is generated abruptly at the end of upstroke motion. However, the quantitative aspect of flow field is somewhat different. A flexible wing generates more thrust but less lift than a rigid wing. This is because the net force acting on wing surface is split into two directions due to structural flexibility. As a consequence, thrust and propulsive efficiency was enhanced considerably compared to a rigid wing. From these numerical simulations, it is seen that the wing flexibility yields a significant impact on aerodynamic characteristics.

The unsteady supersonic flow over tandem cavities has been analyzed by the integration of Navier-Stokes equations with the k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model. The unsteady flow is characterized by the periodicity due to the mutual relation between the shear layer and the internal flow in cavities. The upwind TVD scheme based on the flux vector split with the van Leer limiters is used. The results show the principal frequency is very reasonable. The principal frequency of the rear cavity due to the front cavity has been analyzed by the combination of the several aspect ratios of cavities. In the case of the front cavity of low aspect ratio, the frequencies of tandem cavities are almost same, because two shear layers developed from each cavity are mixed and developed to one shear layer. However, in the case of the front cavity of high aspect ratio, the characteristis of frequency are very different, because the second shear layer is developed in the diffused first shear layer.
One of the way to derive design parameters of the fuel feeding system in satellite propulsion system is to analyze unsteady flow of liquid propellant (hydrazine). During steady thruster firing the flow rate is constant: if a thruster valve is abruptly shut down among a set of thrusters, pressure spikes much higher than the initial tank pressure occur. This renders the fuel flow unsteady, and the fluid pressure and flow rate to oscillate. If the pressure spikes are high enough, there are possibilities that propellant explosively decomposes, thruster valves we damaged, and adiabatic detonation of the hydrazine propellant is potentially incurred. Reflected shockwaves could also affect the calibration and operation of the pressure transducers. These necessitate the analysis of unsteady flow in the propulsion system design, and pressure behavior inside the propellant line obtained through some governing parameter variation is presented in this work.

Flow through turbomachinery has a very complex structure and Is Intrinsically unsteady. In addition, trend to highly loaded turbomachinery makes the flow extremely complex due to the interaction between rotor and stator. In this study, flows through UTRC LSRR turbine are numerically analyzed using 2 dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. The convective terms of the governing equations are discretized using the Van-Leer's FVS(Flux vector splitting) with an upwind TVD scheme. The conventional central differencing is used to discretize the diffusion terms on the finite volume. The accurate unsteady motion is achieved by using a 2nd order accurate, 3-point Euler implicit scheme. The quasi-conservative zonal scheme is used for calculating the flow variables on the zonal interface between the rotor and stator. The axial gap between stator and rotor has been configured in two variations, 15% and 65% of average chord length. The analysis program is validated using experimental results and the effect of axial gap is examined. The numerical analysis results are presented by time averaged pressure coefficient and pressure magnitude coefficient and compared with experimental results.
The along-wind response of a surface-mounted elastic fence under the action of wind was investigated numerically. In the computations, two sets of equations, one for the simulation of the unsteady turbulent flow and the other for the calculation of the dynamic motion of the fence, were solved alternatively. The resulting time-series tip response of the fence as well as the flow fields were analyzed to examine the dynamic behaviors of the two. Results show that the flow is unsteady and is dominated by two frequencies: one relates to the shear layer vortices and the other one is subject to vortex shedding. The resulting unsteady wind load causes the fence to vibrate. The tip deflection of the fence is periodic and is symmetric to an equilibrium position, corresponding to the average load. Although the along-wind aerodynamic effect is not significant, the fluctuating quantities of the tip deflection, velocity and acceleration are enhanced as the fundamental frequency of the fence is near the vortex or shedding frequency of the flow due to the occurrence of resonance. In addition, when the fence is relatively soft, higher mode response can be excited, leading to significant increases of the variations of the tip velocity and acceleration.
A turbine stage consists of a stator and rotor. A stator provides the required inlet flow conditions so that a rotor can produce the necessary power. Passing wakes generated at the trailing edge of a stator make an interaction with a rotor. In the present study, this interaction flow mechanism is investigated using the numerical analysis. In case of the large gap distance between the stator and rotor, the stator and rotor flow analysis can be separated. First, only the stator flow field is solved. Second, the rotor flow field is solved including the passing wake information from the stator analysis. The passing wake experiences the shearing as it approaches to the rotor leading edge. And it is chopped when it strikes the rotor body. After that, the chopped wakes becomes the prolongation as it goes downstream. Also, the aerodynamic characteristics with the variation of the gap distance between a stator and rotor was investigated. Pressure jumps due to the passing wakes result in the pressure and lift loss and it gets stronger with the closer gap distance. This unsteady effect proves to be directly related to the fatigue and noise in turbomachinery and this study would be helpful to investigate such fields.
