This paper deals with the method of self-equilibrium stress mode analysis of cable dome structures. From the point of view of analysis, cable dome structure is a kind of unstable truss structure which is stabilized by means of introduction of prestressing. The prestress must be introduced according to a specific proportion among different structural member and it is determined by an analysis called self-equilibrium stress mode analysis. The mathematical equation involved in the self-equilibrium stress mode analysis is a system of linear equations which can be solved numerically by adopting the concept of Moore-Penrose generalized inverse. The calculation of the generalized inverse is carried out by rank factorization method. This method involves a parameter called epsilon which plays a critical role in self-equilibrium stress mode analysis. It is thus of interest to investigate the range of epsilon which produces consistent solution during the analysis of self-equilibrium stress mode.
An augmented state feedback controller for a Wheeled Inverted Pendulum (WIP) is proposed in this research. The augmented state feedback controller is able to keep the WIP returning to the origin. Generally, the WIP has both stable and unstable equilibrium points. To keep the WIP over the unstable equilibrium point, the WIP consistently is being controlled. A simple state feedback controller is letting the WIP out of the origin when the center of gravity of the WIP locates out of the schematic center line. In some case of applications, it may not be desirable that the WIP is drifting out of the initial location. The proposed augmented state feedback controller is able to keep the WIP at the initial location whether its center of gravity lies out of the center line or not. Numerical simulations are carried out to show the validation of the augmented sated feedback controller.
We develop a mathematical model for the obesity dynamics to investigate the long term obesity trend with the consideration of psychological and social factors due to the increasing prevalence of obesity around the world. Many mathematical models for obesity dynamics adopted the modeling idea of infectious disease and treated overweight and obese people infectious and spreading obesity to normal weight. However, this modeling idea is not proper in obesity modeling because obesity is not an infectious disease. In fact, weight gain and loss are related to social interactions among different weight groups not only in the direction from overweight/obese to normal weight but also the other way around. Thus, we consider these aspects in our model and implement personal weight gain feature, a psychological factor such as body image dissatisfaction, and social interactions such as positive support on weight loss and negative criticism on weight status from various weight groups. We show that the equilibrium point with no normal weight population will be unstable and that an equilibrium point with positive normal weight population should have all other components positive. We conduct computer simulations on Korean demography data with our model and demonstrate the long term obesity trend of Korean male as an example of the use of our model.
An energy function is derived on the basis of the EMM(Equivalent Mechanical Model) to take account of the effects of tap changer, and then the VC(Voltage Collapse) criteria is proposed to predict the voltage collapse in Power systems. The VC criterion can be evaluated by using the energy margin given by the energy gap between UEP(Unstable Equilibrium Point) and SEP(Stable Equilibrium Point) of the energy function adopted, in which it is noted that the energy contour should be considered due to energy discontinuity associated with tap changing. This paper shows that the proposed VC criterion improves the accuracy of voltage stability analysis with application to a two-bus sample system.
The Voltage stability problem has recently been dealt with in the literature from various points of view. The diverse theories have been established in voltage stability analysis because of the complicates of power systems and diverse phenomena of voltage collapse. Through rigorous mathematical operations, this paper shows that all the major methods used in static voltage stability, i.e - Jacobian method, voltage sensitivity method, real and reactive power loss sensitivity method and energy function method - have an identical background in theory. The results from the test in sample systems have shown the validity of this verification. (author). refs., figs., tabs.
This paper develops a method for reliably estimating an UEP(Unstable Equilibrium Point) which is located in the direction of SEP(Stable Equilibrium Point)'s moving as system load is getting heavy. As power systems are getting loaded heavily, the SEP which is an operable solution, and the UEP which is occurring voltage collapse, are moving toward each other linearly. The estimated UEP is used as a good initial guess for the real UEP. The proposed method is tested by 3 bus system and Stagg 5 bus system. It is demonstrated that the proposed method is very useful for assessing system voltage stability in the case of heavy loaded power system. The result solutions are often used in conjunction with energy methods and the stability margin.
This paper investigates the characteristics of unstable behaviour and critical buckling load by joint rigidity of framed large spatial structures which are sensitive to initial conditions. To distinguish the stable from the unstable, a singular point on equilibrium path and a critical buckling level are computed by the eigenvalues and determinants of the tangential stiffness matrix. For the case study, a two-free node example and a folded plate typed long span example with 325 nodes are adopted, and these adopted examples' nonlinear analysis and unstable characteristics are analyzed. The numerical results in the case of the two-free node example indicate that as the influence of snap-through is bigger; that of bifurcation buckling is lower than that of the joint rigidity as the influence of snap-through is lower. Besides, when the rigidity decreases, the critical buckling load ratio increases. These results are similar to those of the folded-typed long span example. When the buckling load ratio is 0.6 or less, the rigidity greatly increases.
In this paper, we propose real time transient stability assessment and energy margin estimation using fuzzy approximate reasoning. The proposed method used rotor angle, kinetic energy and acceleration power of generators at clearing time as fuzzy input. In order to calculate energy margin in transient energy function (TEF), we obtained controlling unstable equilibrium point (UEP) using mode of disturbance procedure (MOD). The proposed algorithm is tested on 4-machine, 6-bus, 7-line power system to prove of effectiveness.
In this study, we investigated the dynamic stability of the system and the semi-analytical solution of the shallow arch. The governing equation for the primary symmetric mode of the arch under external load was derived and expressed simply by using parameters. The semi-analytical solution of the equation was obtained using the Taylor series and the stability of the system for the constant load was analyzed. As a result, we can classify equilibrium points by root of equilibrium equation, and classified stable, asymptotical stable and unstable resigns of equilibrium path. We observed stable points and attractors that appeared differently depending on the shape parameter h, and we can see the points where dynamic buckling occurs. Dynamic buckling of arches with initial condition did not occur in low shape parameter, and sensitive range of critical boundary was observed in low damping constants.
The smallest value of the load when the equilibrium condition becomes to be unstable is defined as the buckling load. The primary objective of this paper is to analyse stability boundaries for star dome under combined loads and is to investigate the iteration diagram under the independent loading parameter In numerical procedure of the geometrically nonlinear problems, Arc Length Method and Newton-Raphson iteration method is used to find accurate critical point(bifurcation point and limit point). In this paper independent loading vector is combined as proportional value and star dome was used as numerical analysis model to find stability boundary among load parameters and many other models as multi-star dome and arches were studied. Through this study we can find the type of buckling mode and the value of buckling load.
