  • Six taxa of unrecorded Korean species of charophytes are described. Freshwater and aerial charophytes were collected from the bark of trees, reservoirs, small ponds and swamps from April 2017 to September 2017. The newly recorded species of Korea were Cosmarium quadrifarium f. octastichum, Euastrum turneri, Spondylosium nitens var. triangulare, Staurastrum kouwetsii, Staurodesmus dickiei var. latus, and Klebsormidium subtile. K. subtile was transferred from Stichococcus subtilis.

  • Two species of the Korean Agaricales are described and illustrated in this paper. Two genera Cystoagaricus and Limacella are new to Korean agaric flora. All of these, Cystoagaricus strobilomyces and Limacella glioderma are recorded for the first time in the Korean fungus flora. The collections cited are all preserved in the Herbarium Conservation Center of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

  • According to our previous study, 500 species of yeast exist in Korea, including nine variants comprising 142 genera and 48 classes in two phyla. Additionally, 4,483 fungal species have been documented at the National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR). However, despite the industrial use of several yeasts, only 173 species formed part of the National Species List of Korea (NSLK) as of December 2021, mainly due to the lack of taxonomic descriptions. This study aimed to investigate the taxonomy of seven newly isolated yeast species (Hyphopichia burtonii, Starmerella sorbosivorans, Cyberlindnera mycetangii, Cutaneotrichosporon oleaginosum, Nakazawaea ernobii, Pichia kudriavzevii, and Schizosaccharomyces japonicus) for inclusion in the NSLK. The strains were clustered for the phylogenetic analysis of fungal rDNA (D1/D2-26S) sequences. This study provides descriptions of their cell morphology and physiological characteristics, the results of which confirm the indigenous origin of these seven species in Korea and recommend their inclusion in the NSLK.

  • We report a unrecorded species, Da-do-sae-u-nan-cho (Calanthe ${\times}$ kibanakirishima F. Maek). It was discovered on Heuksan Island in Jeollanam Province. The species differs from C. aristulifera in the corolla color and the short, wide spur. It is also easily distinguished from the other species of Calanthe by the simple trichomes on the abaxial surface of its leaves and spur.

  • We report Vallisneria spinulosa S. Z. Yan (Hydrocharitaceae) as an unrecorded species from the flora of Korea. This aquatic vascular plant occurs in reservoirs, streams, and ditches at Changnyeong, Changwon, and Gimhae which belong to Nakdong river basin. Vallisneria spinulosa is distinguishable from V. natans (Lour.) Hara already known to Korean flora by the presence of turion and hairs at base of stamen, adnation between pistil and staminodia, the number of stamen, and shape of fruit and seed. V. spinulosa is similar to V. desnseserrulata Makino in the viewpoint of distribution (Japan and southern China), but V. spinulosa has three to five epidermal wings on the surface of seed.

  • From a result of surveys on the biodiversity monitoring for moths in Korea, six species of micro-moths that were never known from Korea are reported here for the first time from this country. They are: Udea pseudocrocealis(South, 1901) of the family Crambidae, which has been known as endemic to Japan; Epinotia albiguttata (Oku, 1974) of the family Tortricidae, which was known belonging to Hikagehamakia Oku, 1974; and four species of the family Gelechiidae: Protoparachronistis concolor Omelko, 1986 and P. discedens Omelko, 1986, which were described from Primorisk, Russian Far East; Thiotricha pancratiastis Meyrick, 1921, which is known from Isl. Jejudo, and Thiotricha sp. which is being described in a separate paper. Here we provide images of adults and genitalia for the unrecorded species with a brief diagnosis.

  • Endophytic fungal strains were isolated from the leaves of two conifer species (Juniperus rigida and Pinus densiflora) in Korea and identified on the basis of their morphological and molecular characteristics. Internal transcribed spacer and large subunit regions of rDNA were used for the phylogenetic analysis, and the translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF) and RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (RPB2) genes were analyzed depending on the species. Two fungal species that were previously unrecorded in Korea were identified: Acrodontium burrowsianum and Pestalotiopsis humicola. Their morphological and phylogenetic characteristics are described herein.

  • As an effort to explore fungal diversity, fungal survey was undertaken in 2018 in Jangheung, Korea. For the survey, medicinal plant leaves were sampled from Selaginella tamariscina, Serratula coronata ssp. insularis, Scutellaria baicalensis, Scrophularia buergeriana and subjected to fungal isolation. Four unrecorded fungal species, Paraboeremia selaginellae, Colletotrichum camelliae, Alternaria eichhorniae, and Phomopsis capsici were obtained from the survey. This study described their morphological characteristics including colony features formed on media, light microscopic images and molecular characteristics of nucleotide sequences of the ITS and 28S rDNA regions.

  • An unrecorded species, Poa tuberifera Faurie ex Hack., was found in Saryeoni forest, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do. It can be distinguished from P. acroleuca Steud. and P. acroleuca var. submoniliformis Makino by its morphological characteristics, with panicle branches bearing sparse spikelets and lemmas not wavy-haired at the base. P. tuberifera is known to be an endemic plant of Japan, but its distribution in South Korea is confirmed through the present study.
