Suppression of Discontinuity in the Pseudoscopic Region of Multiview 3D Displays

  • Flat panel multiview 3D displays developed in recent years have pseudoscopic regions that appear unnatural to viewers. We suggest a new method to suppress the pseudoscopic regions based on the visual characteristics of binocular rivalry. We confirm the validity of this method experimentally and show that the unnaturalness caused by pseudoscopic regions can be effectively suppressed.

Influence of Depth Differences by Setting 3D Stereoscopic Convergence Point on Presence, Display Perception, and Negative Experiences (스테레오 영상의 깊이감에 따른 프레즌스, 지각된 특성, 부정적 경험의 차이)

  • The goal of 3D stereoscopy is not only to maximize positive experiences (such as sense of realism) by adding depth information to 2D video but to also minimize negative experiences (such as fatigue). This study examines the impact of different depth levels induced by adjusting 3D camera convergences on positive and negative experiences and finds an optimal parameter for viewers. The results show that there are significant differences among depth levels on spatial involvement, realistic immersion, presence, depth perception, screen transmission, materiality, shape perception, spatial extension and display perception. There are also significant differences for fatigue and unnaturalness. This study suggests that reducing the camera convergence angle of an object by $0.17^{\circ}$ behind the object is the optimal parameter in a 3D stereoscopic setting.

  • Is discussed. A method to extract feature points and to synthesize human facial images In 3-Dmodel-based ceding system, faciai feature points are extracted automatically using some image processing techniques and the known knowledge for human face. A wire frame model matched to human face Is transformed according to the motion of point using the extracted feature points. The synthesized Image Is produced by mapping the texture of initial front view Image onto the trarnsformed wire frame. Experinent results show that the synthesitzed image appears with little unnaturalness.

The Effect of Thread-embedding therapy on 9 Patients with Partial Obesity (매선요법을 이용한 부분비만치료 9례 보고)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of thread-embedding therapy against partial obesity. Methods : 9 women from 20 to 30 with partial obesity were treated with thread-embedding therapy and then surveyed satisfaction, reaction after treatment and whether they were re-treated or not. The results of before and after treatment were compared with physical measurement, body composition tests and fat thickness measured by ultrasound. Results : The satisfaction of patients was high and side effects were pain, bruises and unnaturalness of action, but 8 of 9 patients wanted to re-treatment. The effect of thread-embedding therapy against partial obesity was continuous and was most pronounced during the first week. Conclusions : Thread-embedding therapy may be useful to reduce partial obesity without different treatments of obesity, diet, exercise etc.
