Objective: This study reports the effectiveness of the Korean medicine treatment of patients with intracerebral and intraventricular hemorrhages suffering unilateral neglect symptoms. Case presentation: The patient was treated using Korean medicine, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, and a limb activation exercise. We measured Unilateral Neglect Symptom progress with a numeric rating scale, Albert's test, Line bisection test, Clock drawing test, and Catherine Bergego Scale. After eight days of combined Korean medicine and rehabilitation exercise, the Unilateral Neglect Symptom intensity reduced from NRS 8 to 6. In addition, Albert's test score decreased from 2.5% to 0%. The Line bisection test score decreased from 19 mm to 12 mm, and the Clock drawing test score improved from 8 to 10. Last, the Catherine Bergego Scale decreased from 12 to 9. No adverse events were observed during treatment. Conclusion: This study suggested that a complex treatment including Jaeumkunbi-tang, acupuncture, moxibustion, and limb activation exercise can be effective for an intracerebral hemorrhage with intraventricular hemorrhage patient suffering from Unilateral Neglect Symptoms. Consequently, more research is needed in the future.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of auditory stimulus using music on unilateral neglect in patients with stroke. Methods : This study used a single subject (ABA) design. The subject who showed unilateral neglect caused by stroke received auditory stimulus using music for 60 minutes per sessions. A total of 20 sessions were conducted. The unilateral neglect was measured by the Star cancellation test and Line bisection test during each session, and Catherine Bergego Scale was used to evaluate the degree of unilateral neglect in daily life pre-and post-test. Also, Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule was used to test subject's emotional status. Results : During the intervention period, the results of the Star cancellation test and Line bisection test showed the trend of reduction of unilateral neglect symptom and the effects of intervention were maintained after intervention. After intervention, the results of CBS indicated decreased unilateral neglect symptom in activities of daily living and the results of PANAS indicated increased positive affect. Conclusions : The result of this study indicate that auditory stimulus has a positive effect on the unilateral neglect, and may be considered as alternative choice in clinical occupational therapy for reducing unilateral neglect.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the current status of the use of neglect test tools and the awareness for egocentric neglect (EN) and allocentric neglect (AN). Methods: A survey questionnaire was distributed to occupational therapists attending continuing education at the Daegu-Gyeongbuk branch on April 16. A total 143 responses were collected, and with the exception of 5 incomplete responses, 138 of them were analyzed. Results: The most commonly used unilateral neglect test tools were the line bisection test (86 responses, 62.3%), cancellation test (35 responses, 25.4%), copy and drawing test (7 responses, 5.1%). In a follow-up survey of 86 respondents who used line bisection tests as the most commonly used test, the majority (82 responses, 95.3%2) were found to use the 20-line test paper. In question about the familiarity and education experience for test manual, only 20 responses (23.2%) and 3 responses (3.5%) answered 'Yes'. In a question about the experience of a manual and the article for the manual, 25 responses (29.1%) answered 'Yes'. In the question regarding the separation of EN and AN on the unilateral neglect test, 44 responses (31.9%) were 'distinction' and 94 responses (68.1%) were 'no distinction'. Conclusion: Information on the guidance and interpretation of the line bisection test is lacking and the concept of EN and AN was insufficient.

Unilateral neglect is associated with stroke, a neurological disorder caused by cerebrovascular injury, and is a symptom of not recognizing or responding to the opposite stimulus of the cerebral hemisphere, mainly in the right cerebral hemisphere injury. In this paper, we implemented contents using Virtual Reality based on 10 items and contents of Korean Catherine Bergego Scale(K-CBS), which is used as a behavioral evaluation scale for unilateral neglect. Implemented contents can evaluate body disregard, motility disregard, visual and spatial disregard, auditory attention, etc., which are symptoms of unilateral neglected patients, and can confirmed progression of disease quantitatively by measuring time and rotation angle of head during visual recognition. This method is expected to be useful for rehabilitation training using convenient unilateral neglect diagnosis and its applied contents.
