The etiology of masseteric hypertrophy is obscure. When the hypertrophy occurs unilaterally it's appearance is more striking because of the resultant facial asymmetry. Two soldiers were admitted with the complaint of a lump on their jaws. The authors obtained good results on the esthetic & functional aspect in two cases of unilateral masseteric hypertrophy with the Adam's method. The etiology was thought to be the combination of unilateral masticatory and jaw clenching habits when emotionally disturbed or under nervous tension in army services.

The primary purpose of cleft lip surgery should be the aesthetic and functional recovery of the facial components. Triangular flap repair is one of the most common techniques used in cleft lip surgery. In this case report, thirty patients with unilateral cleft lip had been treated using the Tennison-Randall method. The results were favorable and there have been no permanent complications.

Markolf and Morris suggests that the deranged disk and torn annulus have an exellent recovery ability from the position of spine extension, where the posterior annulus is not under stress and the gel can move anterioly. McKenzie explains side gliding as a combination of rotation and side bending, his clinical studies indicate that side-gliding can gel laterally. In conclusion, the prone unilateral traction on the opposite side from the patient's pain along with the other treatment appered to have helped reduce those patient's pain. The method of treatment described in this report is suggested for Korean physical therapists who treat patients suspected of posterolateral herniated nucleus pulposus.

We present an elderly patient with unilateral foraminal stenosis treated by isthmus resection. An 83-year-old female could not walk due to severe leg pain along right L5 sensory dermatome. Despite the laminotomy for spinal stenosis on the right side at the L4-5 level, her leg pain did not improve. Careful review of computed tomography scans and coronal source images of magnetic resonance myelography revealed foraminal stenosis on the right side at the L5 vertebra. Because of medical problem, she underwent isthmus resection on the right side at the L5 level instead of total facetectomy and fusion. After surgery, her leg pain was markedly improved. Isthmus resection showed successful result for this medically compromised elderly patient with unilateral foraminal stenosis.

Although most authors regard contralateral pedicular fracture with unilateral spondylolysis as an unstable condition and recommend surgical management when immobilization fails in promoting bony healing of the fracture, few researchers have investigated the natural history of pedicle fracture or the causal relationship between symptoms and the fracture. In addition, there are no detailed guidelines that address the management of this disease. We report a rare case of contralateral pedicular fracture associated with unilateral spondylolysis at the L5 level which was successfully treated by rehabilitation with activity modification.

The authors report a unique case of unilateral Moyamoya disease with a rare combination of arteriovenous malformation (AVM) who presented with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). A 50-year-old man suffered from sudden onset of mental deterioration and right hemiparesis. Brain computed tomography (CT) showed intracerebral hemorrhage on left thalamus. Brain CT angiography and cerebral digital subtraction angiography (DSA) revealed AVM combined with unilateral moyamoya disease involving left middle cerebral artery (MCA) and choroid plexus in left lateral ventricle. Intraventricular hemorrhage and hydrocephalus were managed conservatively. A rare case of unilateral Moyamoya disease accompanied by a cerebral arteriovenous malformation is described and discussed with review of pertinent literature.

Unilateral pedicle stress fracture accompanying spondylolytic spondylolisthesis is rare even in the elderly. Most are associated with major trauma, previous spine surgery, or stress-related activity. Here, the authors describe an unique case of unilateral pedicle fracture associated with spondylolytic spondylolisthesis at the L5 level, which was successfully treated by posterior lumbar interbody fusion with screw fixation at the L5-S1 level. As far as the authors' knowledge, no such case has been previously reported in the literature. The pathophysiological mechanism of this uncommon entity is discussed and a review of relevant literature is included.

Acute traumatic spondylolisthesis at L5-S1 level is a rare condition, almost exclusively the result of major trauma, frequently associated with transverse process fractures and severe neurologic deficits. Recently, open reduction and internal fixation with posterior stabilization has been the method of treatment most frequently reported. We report a rare case of traumatic L5-S1 spondylolisthesis with a unilateral facet locking with a review of literatures.
