The influence of bi-directional earthquake-induced loading on eccentric (plan-asymmetric) building systems has been investigated. In the first part of the study, comparisons have been made with equivalent results from uni-directional studies. The results are important in developing analytical models appropriate to the formulation of design recommendations. It is concluded that for valid comparisons, both perpendicular horizontal earthquake components must be considered when using models with transversely-orientated elements. In the second part of the study, an assessment has been made of a simplified, unidirectional (lateral) design approach. For stiffness-eccentric systems, the latter approach gives accurate and reasonably conservative estimates of the critical flexible-edge deformation, but may under estimate the stiff-edge element ductility demand by a factor of two in the short-period range.

A new algorithm is proposed for the extraction of line segments to construct 3D wire-frame models of building from the high-resolution aerial images. The purpose of this study Is the accurate and effective extraction of line segments, considering the problems such as discordance of lines and blurred edges existing in the conventional methods. Using the edge map extracted from aerial images, chain code tracking of edges was performed. Then, we extract the line segments considering the strength of edges and the direction of them. SUSAN (Smallest Uni-value Segment Assimilating Nucleus) algorithm proposed by Smith was used to extract an edge map. The proposed algorithm consists of 4 steps: removal of the horizontal, vertical and diagonal components of edges to reduce non-candidate point of line segments based on the chain code tracking of the edge map, removal of contiguous points, removal of the same angle points, and the extraction of the start and end points to be line segments. By comparing the proposed algorithm with Boldt algorithm, better results were obtained regarding the extraction of the representative line segments of buildings, having relatively less extraction of unnecessary line segments.
In order to prove the similarity relationships between the basic species of oak through Electronic Data Processing System(EDPS) and numerical analysis, The analized species and datas were selected from the list of morphological observation in the thesis of T.B. Lee, 1961, "Phytogenetic study of the subgenus Lepidobalanus of the genus Quercus in Korea", and were coded by categories shown in Table 1. The value in the list were transformed into hundred percentage to standardize the observational value by each code into dimensionless. The similarity index between species were computed through formula of non-metric coefficient, $N_{jk}=\sum\limits_{i=1}^{n}\(\frac{{\mid}x_{ij}-x_{ik}{\mid}}{x_{ij}+x_{ik}}\)$, using the UNiVAC-1106, at National Computer Center. Quercus aliena, by analysis result, is most similar to Q. mongolica with the similarity index, 71.6 and Q. dentata is most far apart from Q. serrata in the relationship with index, 121.4. The above thesis of Professor, T. Lee, are closely similar with the result of this research study. But, their similar relationship are proved in quantity through numerical method in our research study. In addition, The relationships among Q. mongolica, Q. aliena and Q. serrata are found to be very similar, but Q. dentata to be enough far in similarity to other species by dendrogram shown at Fig. 1. The numerical classification through EDPS is found to be suitable method also applicable to the plant taxonomy.
Purpose: The architectural structures in the engineering field include more than one material, and the heat transfer through these multiple materials becomes complicated. More or less, the analytic solutions obtained by the hand calculation can provide the limited information of heat transfer phenomena. However, the engineers have generally been forced to obtain reliable results than those of the hand calculation. The numerical calculation such as a finite volume methods with the unstructured grid system is only the suitable means of the analysis for the complex and arbitrary domains that consists of multiple materials. In this study, a new numerical code is developed to provide temperature distributions in the multiple material domains, and the results of this code are compared with the validation cases in ISO10211. Method: Finite volume methods with an unstructured grid is employed. In terms of numerical methods, the heat transfer conduction coefficient is not defined on the surface of the cell between different material cells. The heat transfer coefficient is properly defined to accurately mimic the heat transfer through the surface. The boundary conditions of heat flux considering radiation or heat convection are also developed. Result: The comparison between numerical results and ISO 10211 cases. We are confirmed that the numerical method provides the proper temperature distributions, and the heat transfer equation and its boundary conditions are developed properly.
While there exists a relatively large body of technical information for the engineered design of wood-frame buildings to resist seismic ground motions, the quantitative assessment of seismic resistance of conventional houses built by prescriptive requirements is less well understood. Forintek Canada Corp., in collaboration with other research and industry partners, has embarked on a research project to address this topic. This paper will report on the seismic shake table tests of a full-scale wood-frame building. The two-story specimen, $6m{\times}6m$ in plan, was built on the seismic shake table at Tongji University in Shanghai, China, according to Part 9 of the 1995 National Building Code of Canada and shaken uni-directionally in each of the two principal directions. Three different seismic table motions were applied at increasing peak ground motion amplitudes up to 0.40 and 0.50 g. The specimen was repaired after the above sets of seismic table motions, and successive runs were conducted for increased door openings. Measurements included specimen accelerations, displacements and anchorage forces. Static stiffness of the specimen was measured at low force levels, and natural frequencies were measured after each seismic loading stage by applying low-level random excitation. The results presented consist of the capacity spectra of the shake table tests, changes in specimen stiffness and natural frequencies with increasing seismic loading. These results and those from other recent shake table tests elsewhere will be compared with simplified engineering calculations based on codified values of strength, and on that basis preliminary conclusions will be drawn on the adequacy of the current code provisions and design guides in Canada and the USA for conventional wood-frame construction.
Facing a number of global food-related accidents, the concept and system for food traceability have been designed and introduced in many countries to manage the food-safety risks. To connect and harmonize the various food traceability-information in food traceability system according to the food supply chain, the coding system of identification-number for food-traceability has to be standardized. The GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) barcode system which has been globally standardized and implemented, is reviewed with the mandatory food-labeling regulation in expiration date of processed foods. The integration of GTIN-13 bar-code system for food-traceability is a crucial factor to expand its function in the food-related industrial areas. In this literature, the standard coding system of identification-number for food-traceability is proposed with 20 digit coding number which is combined with GTIN-13 bar-code (13 digit), expiration date (6 digit), and additional classification code (1 digit). This proposed standard coding system for identification-number has a several advantages in application for prohibiting the sale of hazard goods, food-recall, and inquiring food traceability-information. And also, this proposed coding system could enhance the food traceability system by communicating and harmonizing the information with the national network such as UNI-PASS and electronic Tax-invoice system. For the global application, the identification-number for food-traceability needs to be cooperated with the upcoming global standards such as GTIN-128 bar-code and GS1 DataBar.
The elastic deflections of the cold forging die influence the dimensional accuracy of forged parts. The die dimension is continuously changed during the loading, unloading, and ejecting stage. In this paper, we evaluated the elastic deflections of cold forging die during the loading, unloding and ejecting stage with experimental and FEM analysis. Uni-axial strain gages are used to measure elastic strain of die during each forging stage. Strain gages are attached un the upper surface of die. A commercial F.E.M. code, DEFORM$-2D^{TM}$ is used to predict the elastic strains of die, to be compared those by experiments. Two modelling approaches are used to define the reasonable analysis method. The first of the two modelling approaches is to regard the die as rigid body over forging cycle. And then, the die stress is analyzed by loading the die with pressure from the deformed part. The other is to regard the die as elastic body from forging cycle. The elastic strain of tool is calculated and the tool is elastically deformed at each strep. The calculated results under the elastic die assumption are well agreed wish experimental data using the strain gages.

This paper proposes RCBT(Reduced Compact Binary trie) to correct faults of CBT (Compact Binary trie). First, in the case of CBT, a compact structure was tried for the first time, but as the amount of data was increasing, that of inputted data gained and much difficulty was experienced in insertion due to the dummy nodes used in balancing trees. On the other hand, if the HCBT realized hierarchically, given certain depth to prevent the map from increasing onthe right, reached the depth, the method for making new trees and connecting to them was used. Eventually, fast progress could be made in the inputting and searching speed, but this had a disadvantage of the storage space becoming bigger because of the use of dummy nods like CBT and of many tree links. In the case of RCBT in this thesis, a capacity is increased by about 60% by completely cutting down dummy nods.

In this strudy, the free-bulge test and FE analysis have been used to define the fracture criteria based on the cockroft and Latham's criterion in warm hydroforming of Al 6061 tube. Full annealing and T6 treatment for heat treatment of Al 6061 tube ware used in this study. As-extruded, full annealed and T6-treated Al 6061 seamless tubes were prepared. To evaluate the hydroformability, uni-axial tensile test and bulge test were performed between room temperature and $200^{\circ}C$. And measured flow stress was used to simulate the warm hydroforming. A commercial FEM code, DEFORM-$2D^{TM}$, was used to calculate the damage value. A forming limit based ductile fracture criteria has been proposed by the results of experimental and FE analysis. The calculated values for fracture criteria will be efficient to predict the forming limit in hydroforming for real complex shaped part.

In cold forging, the elastic behavior of the die has a direct influence on the accuracy of the forging part. And the die dimension is continuously changed during the loading, unloading, and ejecting stage. In this paper, we evaluated the elastic deflections of cold forging die during loading, unloading, and ejecting stage. Uni-axial strain gauges are used to measure elastic strain of die during each forging stage. Strain gauges are attached on the surface of die. A commercial F.E.M code, DEFORM-2D$\^$TM/ is used to predict elastic strain of die. Two method of F.E.M. analysis are used to compare with measured and calculated elastic strain. One is to regard the die as rigid body over forging cycle. And then, the die sass is analyzed by loading the die with pressure from the forging part. The other is to regard the die as elastic body from forging cycle. The elastic strain of die is calculated and the die is elastically deformed at each strop. The calculated results under the elastic die assumption are well agreed with experimental data using strain gauges.
