This study was conducted to verify the advantages of Gal-Ot. Gal-Ot is defined the clothings dyed with persimmon juice. Firstly the physical properties of fabrics were examined. Secondly the wear tests were conducted. The wear tests were performed in climatic chamber controlled 3$0^{\circ}C$ air temperature 50$\pm$5% R.H and 0.2m/s air movement. Four women subjects participated in this experiment and 4 times experiments were performed per one subject. The expeimental schedule was planned following 4 steps that is sedentary posture during 30 minutes-walking the 5。slope treadmill by 70m/min during 20 minutes-sedentary posture during 20 minutes-standing posture on toward the blowing wind during 10 minutes. The results obtained is as folows : The insulation of fabric was increased with dyeing with persimmon juice. The air permeability of fabric was remarkably increased with dyeing with persimmon juice. The mean skin temperatures of subjects were apt to be higher in wearing Gal-Ot than undyed clothing. The clothing micro temperature of subjects were slightly inclined to become lower in wearing Gal-Ot than undyed clothing, The clothing micro humidity was decreasee when: the subjects were gal-Ot than wore undyed clothing, And then it brought about more comfortable on wear sensation. The differences of physiological reactions were not consistent between clothing types except for sweat rate on the back. This result may be attributed the to complex experimental schdules consisted of four steps and to a little difference between open type and close type. However I consider that the clothing type of Gal-Ot is suitable for open type because Gal-Ot is summer wear for blocking the sultry heat.
This study was performed to investigate the physical and chemical properties of the 5 kinds of fabrics dyed with persimmon juice and undyed fabrics. The difference between dyed and undyed fabrics was checked experimentally. Obtained results are as follows. 1. Bending length and flex stiffness were increased after dyeing, and tensile strength of waif i3l fabrics except Ramie was also increased. 2. Abrasion resistance was improved in Ramie and Hemp after dyeing but the rest of fabrics were decreased. 3. Crease resistance of dyed fabrics was roughly worse than that of undyed fabrics. 4. Air permeability remarkably increased after dyeing and this fact estabilished that the traditional Gal-01 was cool clothing. 5. Water repellency in Cotton 1 and Polyester rises but the rest of fabrics were not changed. Therefore it is found that this repellency related to the their fabric counts. 6. Blocking effect of UV light and visible ray was increased in all dyed fabrics. Especially dyed Cotton 1 and Polyester blocked UV light almost perfectly. 7. The colorfastness to soaping and sunlight was proved to less than 3 grade in all fabrics after dyeing. It indicates that this colorfastness became worse owing to dyeing. 8. The colorfastness to dry cleaning and water was decided to more than 3 grade in all fabrics. 9. The colorfastness of the dyed fabrics to sweat after exposing to man-made acid sweat solution was good so that was decided above 3 grade. However after exposing to man-made alkalic sweat solution it became worse owing to dyeing.
This study analyzed differences between Jumchi-Hanji papers not dyed and dyed with persimmon juice (50% concentration) in five strength properties (tensile, wet tensile, tearing, bursting, and folding strengths). For the analysis, the undyed and the dyed Jumchi-Hanji papers were made by Jumchichigi during 40 minutes and made with the Dakji of different layer (a layer, two layers) and Choji method (Oebal-teugi, Ssangbal-teugi). Differences between Jumchi-Hanji papers dyed with the different concentration of persimmon juice (20% vs 70%) in the five strengths were also identified. For this examination, Jumchi-Hanji papers were made with two layer Dakji (Oebal-teugi Choji method) and by Jumchichigi during 60 minutes. Jumchi-Hanji papers made in this study were used as test samples. As a result, Jumchi-Hanji papers dyed with persimmon juice had higher tensile strength (CD), wet tensile strength (MD, CD), and bursting strength than those of undyed Jumchi-Hanji papers. However, tearing strengths (MD, CD) of dyed Jumchi-Hanji papers were lower than undyed Jumchi-Hanji papers. Folding strengths (CD) of dyed Jumchi-Hanji papers were low but the folding strengths (MD) of them were high compared to undyed Jumchi-Hanji papers. In addition, the concentration of persimmon juice influenced the five strength properties of Jumchi-Hanji. The tensile, wet tensile, and bursting strengths of Jumchi-Hanji papers dyed with a 70% concentration were higher than those one of Jumchi-Hanji papers dyed with a 30% concentration while the tearing and folding strengths of Jumchi-Hanji papers dyed with a 70% concentration were lower than Jumchi-Hanji papers dyed with a 30% concentration.
The physical characteristics of silk and wool fabrics dyed with OFS-FR and SM-FR were examined and color difference and colorfastness of these fabrics were analyzed. The results are as follows; 1. The thickness, density and weight of both dyed fabrics were increased than those of undyed fabrics independently of dyeing materials and mordants. 2. Air permeability of all the silk samples increased than that of undyed silk, on the other hand, air permeability of most of wool samples decreased than that of undyed wool. 3. Thermal insulation values of silk samples were not consistent with dyeing conditions, but those of wool samples increased than those of undyed fabrics regardless of dyeing materials and mordants. 4. Color difference was clear between OFS-FR and SM-FR dyed fabrics. The colors dyed with OFS-FR-Al and OFS-FR-chitos an showed violet, those dyed with SM-FR displayed yellowish, in addition to in case of wool, dyed with OFS-FR-Cu the color was greenish yellow, in case of silk dyed with SM-FR-Cu that was yellowish red. 5. Sense of silk fabrics by sensory-test was soft and smooth. Feeling of colors in silk fabrics was wick, warm and slightly brilliant. In case wool, sense of dyed fabrics was slightly soft and slightly rough. Feeling of colors in wool fabrics was warm but not elegant. Therefore the result of sensory-test in silk might be better than that of in wool. 6. Colorfastness to dry cleaning and perspirations was good, but that to washing and sunlight was not fine.
This study investigated the effects of persimmon-dyed clothing materials upon thermophysiological responses and subjective comfort sensations during exercise and rest in a warm environment. Six healthy, untrained women participated in two separate testing sessions, with cotton materials dyed with astringent persimmon extract (DC) and undyed cotton materials (UDC). The physical characteristics associated with heat and moisture transfer were improved in DC; also, stiffness, anti-drapery stiffness and crispness in the primary hand values were higher in DC. The experimental protocol consisted of a 10-min rest, 15-min exercise on a treadmill (at ${7km{\cdot}h^{-1}}$) and 25-min recovery at $28{\pm}0.2^{\circ}C$ and $50{\pm}3%\;RH$. The results were as follows: When wearing DC rather than UDC, mean body temperature, heart rate, heat storage and body mass loss were significantly lower during the whole experimental period. Clothing microclimate temperature showed different profiles between the two clothing materials, being lower with DC than UDC during the first half of exercise and the second half of recovery. Clothing microclimate humidity was significantly lower with DC than UDC during the whole experimental period. When wearing UDC, subjects felt significantly warmer and less comfortable during exercise, and sensed greater humidity during exercise and recovery. These results suggest that eco-friendly clothing materials dyed with astringent persimmon extract can reduce exercise-induced heat load and improve subjective sensations when exercising and resting in a warm environment, due to greater heat dissipation from the body to the outside environment compared with undyed clothing materials.
This study compares the strength properties of Jumchi-Hanjis dyed with 70% and 100% persimmon juice concentrations and undyed Jumchi-Hanjis. The Juumchi-Hanjis were made from Dakjis (mulberry papers), which were mixed with different ratios of fibers from paper mulberries originating in Korea and Thailand, including wood pulp from Canada. Research results showed that tensile, wet tensile, and bursting strengths of Jumchi-Hanjis dyed with 70% concentration were higher than those of undyed Jumchi-Hanjis. However, the tearing strengths of the dyed Jumchi-Hanjis were lower than those of undyed Jumchi-Hanjis. The wet tensile strengths of Jumchi-Hanjis dyed with 100% concentration were higher than those of dyed with 70% concentration. The increase and decrease of tensile, tearing, and bursting strengths depending on persimmon juice dyeing differed as per the mixing ratio of the raw materials of Jumchi-Hanjis. Dyeing with 100% persimmon juice concentration tends to be more useful than 70% to increase the tensile (MD) and wet tensile strengths of Jumchi-Hanjis containing only Korean mulberry fibers (90%) and wood pulp (10%) as raw materials. Dyeing with 100% concentration tends to be less useful than 70% to increase the tensile, tearing and bursting strengths of Jumchi-Hanjis with high proportions (90% or 60%) of mulberry fibers from Thailand.
Researches to preserve and restore the remaining fabrics as costume heritages have been carried out. In this study, in order to artificially restore an excavated silk fabrics, degummed silk fabrics and safflower dyed silk fabrics were prepared for an experiment. These fabrics were photo-degraded by the Xenon arc beam to have various strength retention(100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%). The fine structure and physical properties of Xenon arc treated fabrics were investigated with various techniques such as tensile test, weight loss, wide-angle X-ray diffraction, yellowness, color, SEM etc. Tensile strength and the crystal diffraction intensity of silk fabrics decreased as Xenon arc hem treatment time increased. Weight loss increased slightly. Strength retention was decreased as the Xenon arc beam treatment time goes by. (Yellowness of the undyed silk fabrics and $L^*$ of the dyed silk fabrics increased. Whiteness of the undyed silk fabrics and $b^* of the dyed silk fabrics decreased.) SEM results of the silk fabrics treated Xenon arc beam show that surface was a little damaged.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the color characteristic and the dyeing properties of Glycyrrhizae Radix extract on cotton fabrics. The highest absorbance of Glycyrrhizae Radix extract was obtained in 75 v/v% of ethyl alcohol in water. Pre-mordanted cotton fabrics dyed at $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 3 for 80 minutes showed the highest K/S value. According to the dyeing conditions, the colors of the fabrics varied from yellow(Y) and yellowish red(YR) to greenish yellow(GY). The color fastness of the fabrics in dry-cleaning and water was 4~5 rating. The deodorization capacity and UV-cut effect of the dyed fabrics were higher than those of undyed ones.
The purpose of this research was to raise K/S value by mercerization and tannic acid treatment in cotton fabrics. K/S value was 2.84-3.56 in mercerized none-mordant fabrics and it is 5.12-5.36 in tannic acid treatment. As the result, it showed higher in processed cotton fabrics than in unprocessed ones. Processed cotton fabrics had high K/S value in pH 3, pre-mordant. Antibacterial activity showed 99.9% in tannic acid and Cu mordanted fabrics. Deodorization and UV-cut effect were showed a higher effect in dyed fabrics than in undyed ones.
Persimmon juice dye-printed fabrics with printing were used for a Galot one-piece dress. The Galot dress was assessed in comparison to a white undyed one-piece dress of the same design through a wearing test conducted in a climatic chamber with an air temperature of $30{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, $50{\pm}5%$ R.H, and 0.2m/sec air movement on 4 healthy female subjects in their 20s. The subjects went through a 30-min stable period, a 30-min exercise of walking on a $5^{\circ}$ slope treadmill at 70m/min period, and a 20-min recovery period. In addition, a physiological reaction and subjective sensation were estimated. The results showed that significant differences were mostly observed from a sweating period that occurred during the latter half of the exercise. More specific results are as follows. First, skin temperature on the chest and mean skin temperature were significantly higher (p<.01) in rayon dyed sample dresses. Second, micro-humidity on the back showed a significant difference (p<.01). Both cotton and rayon persimmon juice dyed sample dresses produced lower microhumidity than their counterparts and as for cotton the difference occurred over the entire experimental period; however, it occurred after the middle of the exercise period for rayon. Third, the sweating rate on the back decreased in both cotton and rayon with persimmon juice dye but no significant difference was observed. Fourth, subjective three sensations revealed significant differences between cotton and rayon (p<.01), indicating that the subjects felt more cool, dryer and more comfortable in a cotton Galot. As described above, the analysis of physiological responses and the subjective sensation of undyed and dyed clothing shows the effect of persimmon juice dyeing. Persimmon juice dyeing also seemly increased air permeability, moisture regain and permeability facilitating body heat ventilation, as micro-humidity and sweat rate were lowered. However, this was not shown consistently in subjective responses on comfort especially when wearing rayon dresses.
